Recently, I have been on the team speak more and more often. Over time, a lot of mods, regulars, and random players will come on. We talk, tell stories, play some ctf, or maybe I get triggered at @_Glock34 for putting the wrong person in jail *cough* I didn't make the noise with my mic and the other guy even apoligized after he made it *cough* Ontop of that, some of the jr mods will come check out the call and play with us. And yes, of course, there would be the usual troll every 20 minutes.

Anyways, throughout the week we have been experiencing many, many new players in the teamspeak. Many of the new players coming into the teamspeak have just joined the server, sometimes some people look around on teamspeak for big channels and stumble upon ours, eventually leading them onto the ctf server. Either way, we have been trying to help out these players as much as possible, like explaing certain classes, the credit system, etc.

Many of the new players seem to have trouble understanding assassin, instakills, and sometimes just the parts of a class. Assassin is certainly the main subject, and I myself have noticed that most players in a casual game besides the usual regulars know how to block. I realize that simply instakilling new players might aggravate them, as they don't understand what has just killed them/what they are supposed to do about it. This goes with many other classes, like archer, soldier wall climb, elf, and basically the rest of the classes (rip heavy).

Back on mcpvp there were many tips that would pass by, like the engineer teleport and how a tp was a workbech with a redstone torch ontop. We need this again, specifically explaining how to counterplay assassin, what soldier does, how many blocks you need to stand away from a player to headshot. We were able to help out the players who asked and which were confused. The thing is, sometimes players can be confused, rage quit from not understanding, and possibly even embarrassed/too shy/lazy to ask about the mechanics of the game. Another one of the main things I see is that player don't seem to realize that if their teams flag has been stolen, they cannot capture the flag at their own post. We need simple, in game tips again, focusing on objective and class gameplay. Maybe leave out the part where walking into spawn with the flag kills you, this always gives some comedic fun (jk, we need these tips to help out people like Zekrom when he has the flag @Miskey ). Also, explaining the credit system and how to get them would be nice.

Overall, this thread is just recommending re implementing the ingame tip system that we had on mcpvp. Yes, pyro has a change tip when you change to the class, but that is specifically for pyro and the other classes are left out if I am correct.

Back on MCPVP (in the days when I was only a half-noob) I wondered what the point of those tips were since I never really realized how stupidly confusing the game could be to a new player. These days, I see new players using pyro with nothing but the ax (no frenzy), people who never use steak, and generally kids calling hacks because people aren't "getting hit" or whatever other accusations.

So yes, bring back the tips. and bring back wool loll

Anyone remember back on mcpvp they added a book that explained all the mechanics? No? ok.
(not like it'd help anything right now)

But yes there should be a tutorial or walkthrough on the mechanics of the game. Maybe /help could bring up a gui where a player can select the class they need help with and they'd get all the info on it, how to use, how to counter, ect.

The only problem that I see with this is it won't really be enough. Would that many players really read the tips? Even when they were on CTF back in McPvP, a lot of new players still didn't really understand the game.

These tips were how I learned to block when I see an Assassin. They were a huge help and I'd love to see them added back.

I do think more tips would help newer people understand different aspects of the game (soldiers can wall-climb, assassins can instakill and you can block them, etc). However, I do think there is more as a community we can do. Try and help those who are confused, teach them how to do certain things, etc. Instead of saying "walk into spawn to cap", lead them to the flag and show them how to actually cap. Instead of saying "Lol wat a rand33 xd" when someone asks why soldiers are fly-hacking, actually explain what soldier is and what it can do. This would significantly help the community and ctf as a whole, since it would make this community much less toxic, and would also get more people into this community. Of course there will always be those "randees" who do not know what to do, but if we all try to help one person at a time, more people will come and help overall with things like teams.

A young man is walking along the ocean and sees a beach on which thousands and thousands of starfish have washed ashore. Further along he sees an old man, walking slowly and stooping often, picking up one starfish after another and tossing each one gently into the ocean.

“Why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?,” he asks.

“Because the sun is up and the tide is going out and if I don’t throw them further in they will die.”

“But, old man, don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and starfish all along it! You can’t possibly save them all, you can’t even save one-tenth of them. In fact, even if you work all day, your efforts won’t make any difference at all.”

The old man listened calmly and then bent down to pick up another starfish and threw it into the sea. “It made a difference to that one.”

It's been months, and this still isn't implemented into the game. This would not only help new players, but give them a few tips on how to get better. This is still a very relevant thread.

Definitely support this. It shouldn't be too difficult to add either, there is a command for it, it just needs the original texts back.

Here's my thoughts on this subject.

Upon the first time someone joins the server, they have an option to take a turorial. It will have general explanations about classes, objectives, etc. This happened the first time I joined Wild West (when CTF was down), and it was very helpful. That being said, the tips would still help as well!
