Legacy Server

What's good, CTF'ers?

For the past couple months I've been remembering all the great times I've had while playing this game. I'm not gonna lie here, I am not at all happy with the direction CTF has gone over the past year or two. It seems that everything fun has been removed and/or nerfed to pieces.

So... with this in mind, everytime I come on CTF, I set up some old maps and play them. I've had a decent amount of fun doing this, but it still isn't the same as the great times I've had. What's missing is the classes.

Unfortunately, I think most of the current CTF community would rather quit CTF, than re-adjust to the great CTF I remember. Which is why, no matter how much I hope, some of the things I dearly miss will never be re-added. So, today, I bring you the idea of a CTF Legacy server. A completely self-sustaining and self-sufficient server that requires minimal updates (besides bug fixes) that anyone and everyone can access 24/7.

The first question one has to ask about a server like this is: What would the classes be on the server?

This is where I'd like to get as much feedback as possible. If this was going to be a thing, what do you want to see, and what do you not want to see? Here are some ideas to help stimulate your thinking:

• Instacapping (ninja)
• Revert to Chemist's former health pool (and revert all the other annoying stuff that was added; keep manna if needed)
• Remove the XP bar for soldier
• Re-add instakills for Pyro - when people are on fire and they hit them with an axe. Nice and simple.
• 414
• Completely revert engineer to it's former glory
• 3 sugar and 2 redstone for assassin
• Increase frequency of Mage damage spells
• Old necro

Map wise, we can obviously put any onto the server, I was thinking something along the lines of:

• Air Balloons
• Beaver Creek (v1)
• Blackout (What would CTF be without this?)
• Castle
• Halo
• Kingdom Islands (v1)
• Lighthouse (v1)
• Unholy Faith
• Starlight
• Platforms (v1 - or as OG as we can find ;v)
• Opposites Collide (v1)
• Highrise (v1)

Again, all feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Do you guys want to see wool added back? Here's the perfect opportunity.

Obviously, any and all stats on this server wouldn't be counted or would be set displayed separately from the current ones.

Overall, I feel like a lot of you would enjoy something along these lines, especially if the class specifications are what the majority of the people want to see. I've been wanting to set something like this up for awhile, and I think it is long past overdue to at least start a discussion.

This does not reflect the will of the CTF Team Committee nor the Brawl Staff Team, and I am not speaking for the Brawl Staff as a whole when I make this post, however, I swear to the CTF Gods if this gets a positive response: I will try my absolute best to set a server like this in motion.

P.S. Anyone else #hyped?

 

First of all, I disagree with the statement that new players wouldn't play this. Any gamemode in the Hub, or accessible on our bungees has exposure to a much larger group of players. I was one of the players who joined when "Old CTF" was a thing, and I loved it a lot, so why are you saying people wouldn't be attracted to this? Features don't equal a more fun game, and in CTF's case I'd say it makes it a less fun game. Playerbase, I'm on board with but I don't think it would take long for the playerbase to transfer to the legacy server.
