Any class requires the same amount of effort in order to master it. It is just that some people choose to not put in the effort and that's fine by me. But anyways, WE have some new MODS coming into the staff team, if one of those new mods could post updates on what's happening and what is going on so far in CTF Updates, you know like run a weekly/monthly newsletter on the updates, and the community looks at it and says , "Great this is excellent; keep working on this update, and for other updates they can say: nope, not the update we are looking for." And the community can just scrap those ideas and work further ahead on ideas that the community like. OR if none of the STAFF members are willing to make a weekly/monthly newsletter on the updates, then THAT'S fine. @wintergreen3 can include the latest news on what updates are being worked on and the completion on the monthly CTF Team Updates that we get EVERY month. OR if that doesn't work out well, then one of the staff members can present an idea and make a poll that lasts for a week and see if the MAJORITY of the community like the update or not by just saying "yes" or "no" in the polls! SIMPLE! To be successful in endeavors, everyone has to work together.

    That sounds about right.

That said, your remark as a comment is pretty false.

Excellent! Good to know that good ol S-MODs like @BlueGuyARed won't advocate for more transparency for reworks let alone better changes in general, but will fight for rolling back three years of updates for the sake of an ultimately pointless nostalgasm.

Thank you. I appreciate the effort.

    I'm not talking about raid.

I didn't say that and I'm sorry you got the impression that I did. I said that the staff team is not serious about really communicating with the community. And considering that certain upper level staff members have been obstructing that communication (or any hope of it) that only serves to prove my point.

I'm aware of the hard (volunteer) work you guys do and god knows I appreciate it. Again, this thread was not intended to bash staff, only to go after the ridiculous invisible wall that certain staff members have essentially reinforced between them and the forums community (on most things).

I'm obliged to fight with them on it. Hence this thread.

That situation has been mentioned in this thread (I suggest re reading certain parts) and it's also ridiculous.

I don't. And it's not just smods+ who are doing it.

That's not "truly communicating". Hell featherpaw that's not even a reason for secrecy. I mean, it is possible to say in a thread, that "this is just an idea we're tossing around and we're not sure if it should or will be implemented, so we want to know what you think about it." to deal with hype. I don't mean to say, share everything with the forums community (there are ideas that are just floaters out there) but make the forums community a partner in deciding whether or not something should be a thing or not. How does that happen? Look at responses, suggestions, and what people seem to really want. As you said, that's not always going to work, but at least put staff and the forums community on the same level here. The community shouldn't be the staff's little "idea farm" they should be right there with the staff making recommendations to the coder(s) when there's time for stuff to get done.

Hi @Nohox. Good to see you and thanks for the response.

    I know that.

Great. That doesn't mean diddly when no one outside the staff team (and some people inside the staff team) don't know what's in (or planned to be in) that bag of goodies.

Right but I'm not talking about the lack of updates (why spend a ton of time to update a server that isn't particularly profitable like CTF?).

    "Sadly"?

Yes, how dare people outside most of the CTF staff actually know what's in a rework (to Necro) that's been awaited for about three years.

I don't care about whether things get done at the snap of ones proverbial fingers. That's a stupid and entitled expectation for anyone to have. I care about transparency. That's why I "leaked" the draft of the Necro rework because of that. I even said so in the topic where I posted the rework. You should have posted a thread allowing the community to offer their thoughts and be heard, directly, on a potential Necro rework or on any other reworks or significant changes (as @wintergreen did in an awesome update thread, which has received all kinds of excellent community feedback). You're already doing it with map updates (@b0squet's latest thread). Why not with the other stuff?

That's all there is to it.

Fearing criticism or potentially "hyping" people is not a reason to hide a planned rework from the forums community. Of course people are going to criticize reworks from the start. They're going to criticize them even after they become implemented. You know as well as I do that's the case. And some people do that because they're haters and their only mission in life seems to be attempting to piss off as many players and staff as possible. They deserve nobody's consideration let alone attention. But for most people, they criticize a rework to make it better. What the heck do you think you guys are doing when you have your little chats on Google Docs (or Skype or whatever) when you're tweaking various ideas for class reworks or gameplay updates? You're sharing constructive criticism on ideas to make them better.

So I ask you again, why is the forums community consistently frozen out of that process (excepting winter's and quarrelt's tweak threads)?

    Sounds good.

    Uh-huh. That's nonsense.

So your response essentially boils down to "this is how it is, this is how its going to be, deal with it"? Great. I don't care. I'm going to keep b*tching about this until something changes, because you haven't given a single valid reason why information on updates is consistently withheld from the forums community but shared freely between select staff members.

    Pce.

@Congruence @gamren True, but the point is, Elf is comparatively weak to most other classes in the game (especially after the wind element nerf and before its recent buff). See @Tenshirox's post (linked in the OP) for pretty much all the reasons why I think that.

And I will continue to disagree with you because it is far from comparatively weak with the other classes . Elf deals enough damage to most classes (it deals more damage than soldier does, then with buffs even more than heavy), is still very much mobile, can counter headshots, is playable in every role if played correctly and has enough sustain to be able to get out of the flagroom. If you're going to call any class weak right now that'd be ninja, because of the heavy meta it doesn't stand a fighting chance after getting 2-3 shot by most of the classes

I have to agree. @Forums , just because you and a few (like 4) other people can play the class effectively doesn't make it overpowered, that really only proves how underpowered it actually is. If elf is so op, why are quite a number of people so convinced it needs a buff? Again, I know a small group (including you) that are really good at elf, seriously, I don't even know how you guys are so good at it, but that skill curve is too damn high for any other player to pick it up and understand how it works. A classes' "full potential" shouldn't take a scooby doo investigation to find.

This elf argument is offtopic anyways, you have your opinion, I have mine. Can we just talk about the main focus of this thread?

First off, the last point does not make this thread off topic. Admiral mentioned elf and called it "weak", so counterarguing to that point would very much be on topic to what he said on the OP

The reason there is such a small group that are good with elf, is because they dedicated their time to playing the class properly, not like most of the players that do not dedicate themselves when going elf.

Grant it, it deserved a buff, after having the wind element nerf with additional arrows, but that should mean that with more arrows, elf shouldn't be as difficult to play as it was before?

Correct me if I'm wrong but people used to think chemist had a high skill curve (talking about way back in the day when no one played chemist). So yeah...

It just takes people to be bothered to learning how to play it properly just like with any other class.

No it doesn't because it's not the main point of the thread. 95% of the OP has nothing to do with Elf.

You've made your point, but the whole argument of "is Elf weak or perfectly fine" etc. etc. is for another discussion. This is not about Elf.

Again, you have your opinion, I have my own. Our opinions aren't going to change, so lets move the discussion back to what this thread is actually about.
