    CTF Map Submission

    Map Name: InfraQ
    Style: Architecture (?)
    Creator(s): Coquelin (Recently changed username)
    (Main) Picture(s):

MCBuild ID: 355357 (For a full idea of the map, go check it out yourself) (Also, not sure how server saving/updating works, but mcbuild3 just to be safe)

This is a map I built specifically for Wave XII, started just a few days ago. I'm not entirely happy with it, but I thought I'd give it a try in the submission, and wait for any comments/suggestions/questions (which I'm sure there will be a lot of). The style is a little iffy.

One problem that I am aware of, and I'd rather not see mentioned in the comments since I already know about it, is the in-variance of terrain. I know it's pretty much flat, but, it was a fairly small project, and this is only my second shot at a CTF map.

Any other comments/suggestions/questions are welcome below (though I do suggest you go explore the map on MCBuild for yourself before commenting). Thanks for checking it out and considering!

EDIT: I thought I might mention: while this map is the same size as some of the 3-cap maps, and bigger than most of the 5-cap maps, I think that (if implemented) this should be a 5-capture map just because it's sponge capacity and tall structures make for fast-paced gameplay.

EDIT2: Tweaked the map a little bit, changed to default textures, redid screenshots.

EDIT3: Tweaked the map for a final time; moved planes higher up, added underground tunnels to counter possible Soldier-OPness. Updated pictures.

By looking at the pics, (I'll try and got on and look tomorrow) It looks really nice, but (there's always a "but") it's game play doesn't look that good. It looks really (and I mean really annoyingly) soldier and archer op (like 80% of maps). There are so many high strutures and trees that soldier can hop between, but also wide open spaces were any decent archer can hs.

    Basically
    Gameplay > Aesthetics
And there is plenty of structures for soldiers but they aren't big enough structures that an elevated archer can shoot over and kill anyone in sight

Yep, this is another response I expected to get. The best I can do to counter it is mention that I did built a few tunnels? Roofed things that shield you from archers, and are relatively easy to maneuver between. It's a good map for archer, if you're actually good at the class. As far as soldiers go... I myself find it far more effective to use the sponges around the map, since they transport you relatively quickly, even against the wall-climbing ability. And to counter soldiers, I believe I did add plenty height-achieving sponges along with my distance ones, so you can catch up to soldiers no matter the class you are.

But, good point. It may just end up being the deal-breaker in this map, though I can only hope not.

EDIT: Thought I might also add that I do understand the Gameplay>Aesthetics statement, but I believe they have to correlate some way. A map can be fun to play, but it doesn't make for a good experience if it's nasty to look at. I generally tried to level the two ideas out when creating this map. I can't be sure if I achieved that, but I can say some of the buildings (especially the flag one) do look kinda pretty.

    From the screenshots:
It looks ok for gameplay and aesthetics however soldier could be very op. I think this is a decent first map though. Also, please take pics in default because some players do not have that resource pack.

I could see how people would think there's potential for Soldier to be OP. To make my case a little bitter, I am gonna say again that even if a flag-carrying soldier opts for a slower getaway via climbing structures, there are plenty of sponges that would help to catch up (both height- and distance-achieving). And, if a soldier decides to just use the sponges, then you can catch up anyway because they're not making use of the wall-climbing ability.

Before the soldier nerf, this map would probably be atrocious. It's a little better considering their abilities are limited, though I definitely see where you're coming from.

Ok so I got on and looked at the map

It's soldier op as heck and the sponges make it way worse.

I would suggest taking out the ones that send you part of the way across the map.

    ;-;

I have some other stuff I was intending on editing. I'm assuming the deadline is 11:59 PM EST, which gives me three hours.

If you can, get on around 30 mins after this is posted, and check the map again for wrong sponges.

    Thanks for checking

    EDIT:
I removed the one on the big tree that went pretty much half the map - 2016-09-12_19.18.37.png
Would you suggest I remove the distance sponge on these towers as well? 2016-09-12_19.18.52.png

    Yes, I would also suggest,
    1. Either moving the planes up so soldiers can't reach them
    Or
    2. Remove them
, because it gives soldiers and ninjad a very easy route were they can go practically untouched.

    Does this height look OK?

Would you suggest I move them closer to their respective bases also? 2016-09-12_19.44.25.png

Also: I replaced those sponges with clay instead of removing the platforms entirely, simply because it looks aesthetically pleasing. 2016-09-12_19.46.17.png

    UPDATE:
Adding underground tunnels. Hopefully can get it finished in the next hour.

It's too late for me to edit now, but -
The distance sponges on those towers brought players on top of the best planes. So, not technically entirely untouched. I just realized that.

Right now, ninjas can pearl to them... But there's no point. Any flag-carrying ninja that happens to think the plane is a good place to hide will easily be found and likely killed by another ninja via the element of surprise.

Planes are now more for aesthetics. May improve gameplay, may not. We'll see what the people think.
