Article #1 - Intro by gamren​

Hello, and welcome to our first edition of match spotlight weekly. Before I get into it, I would like to thank all of the team's, committee, and overall the support and dedication of the community for allowing this newsletter to exist. Our main purpose and goal is to offer coverage and information about CTF matches, predict future matches with our analyst team, record and commentate matches, and overall act as a “news team” for the community involving matches. We prefer to cover official matches, but if these first few weeks work out very well, then we may look into the possibility of extending our coverage to other matches. Also on our lineup, we offer interviews with teams, their players, individuals, and overall the community. We are always in need of someone to interview, and you never know when we might ask to interview you! We are also always taking an application, so feel free to take a look at our recruitment and information thread located in the teams section. We offer many roles designated to your liking, and I hope that they may interest you This intro thread will also act as a weekly update to the project's progress, so with that in mind, let’s get right into it.​

This weeks update- ​

All of the teams but SN have requested to be added to the consent list, with SN currently considering requesting to be added. ​

We have updated our rules and terms for our analysts, recorders, commentators, and all around everyone on the team. These rules consist of no talking in the chat during a match that we are covering, so that players on both teams may not get distracted. Also, we have set in place rules that we will not call out rule breaks, since our job is to record and commentate the match, not act as mini referees. If staff members directly request for our input, recordings, etc, then that topic may be brought up. With analysts, they are encouraged to be professional and courteous to all teams with predictions, and attempt to use facts/well based evidence.​

Our plans are to have more articles next week, with more matches covered, predictions, team interviews pre and post matches, and much more. Big thanks to everyone who assisted in contributing in this week's edition of Match Spotlight Weekly, and a big thanks to the teams and the community which made this possible. We want to upload a thread every week on either Thursday or Friday, so keep a lookout for the next edition!​

Article #2 - TT vs ADV by gamren​

On September 11th, ADV took on TT to try to knock out the reigning CTF champs. Although with both teams looking insanely strong at the moment, there was a lot of speculation on how the match would go. Early on in the game, it was very tight, with both teams being edge to edge, with no caps occurring. ADV sported a very light, roaming defense consisting of mainly ninjas, while TT consisted of a more heavy defense with soldier and an assortment of other classes. ADV would usually get very far in their steals with @FlickeringEmber picking up a few impressive runs with the flag. Sadly, due to the rule of max 1 medic and ADV trying to balance that resource on defense, he was only able to make it so far until eventually TT caught up to him for the recovery. Overall, the match was very close up, until TT substituted @b0squet in as archer. Shortly upon his arrival, b0s helped assist the TT offense by clearing out the roaming defense of ADV, and overall led to a capture by @Chactation . With the newly arrived “mojo”, TT then commenced on to gain capture after capture, with one notable standoff occurring to lead to TT’s third capture. Shortly after, TT put the nail in the coffin, rapidly capturing 2 consecutive to finish off the first map 5-0 TT.​

The next map was Pagodas, which TT is well known for favoring in many matches. All around both teams were looking very well, but TT took the second map from ADV 3-0, overall a 8-0 win to TT. Both teams looked insanely strong during this match, and I commend ADV for doing so well. Good luck to both teams in future matches

29:43 - Chactation tries a cheeky ninja cap however, he is killed by gukada

29:24 - Michawesome72 steals the flag as soldier but dies, Hugmaster picks up the flag but is killed too.

28:46 - FlamingEmber steals as heavy but is immediately killed.

28:34 - Trebr steals blue flag but is killed a second later by LoL200e

28:21 - hallopiu steals red flag as chemist, he lasts 13 seconds before dying.

27:56 - Hugmaster steals the flag as chemist and escapes blue flagroom with support from Snowleak14, he manages to get to the mid entrance before he is taken out by several ninjas.

27:04 - FlamingEmber steals but is killed straight after picking up the flag.

27:00 - Michawesome72 steals the flag and reaches a medic, the medic gets headshot and Michawesome72 dies.

26:39 - FlickeringEmber steals as heavy and takes the route down the right side of the map, he lasts 24 seconds before Snowleak14 sneakily assissinates him.

26:02 - Michawesome72 steals as soldier, he lasts 9 seconds before he dies.

25:45 - Trebr steals as medic, he lasts 11 seconds before dying.

25:41 - FlickeringEmber steals but dies shortly afterwards.

25:03 - hallopiu steals as chemist but is killed a few seconds later.

24:53 - Hugmaster steals but dies very quickly.

24:50 - Michawesome72 steals the flag and uses Hugmaster’s death as a distraction. He lasts 11 seconds before being headshot.

24:18 - FlickeringEmber steals but dies a second later.

24:16 - hallopiu steals red flag but dies a couple of seconds afterwards.

23:31 - LoL200e gets assassinated as pyro allowing Hugmaster to steal, he lasts 21 seconds before being headshot.

23:29 - FlickeringEmber steals at the other side of the map, he dies 18 seconds later though.

22:28 - Michawesome72 steals the flag as soldier but either gets headshot or assassinated.

22:25 - FlickeringEmber steals red flag, he lasts 29 seconds before dying.

21:37 - Michawesome72 steals but dies shortly afterwards.

21:34 - Sub: Trebr leaves for b0squet

21:04 - FlamingEmber steals as heavy, he lasts 23 seconds before being knocked off.

20:39 - Cap: Chactation steals and manages to cap as soldier, he takes the unusual route of straight through mid.

19:13 - Crazy_CTF steals as soldier and lasts 43 seconds before getting killed at mid.

19:09 - Cap: Chactation steals as soldier when no one is looking he manages to get to red flag and capture.

17:12 - Michawesome72 steals but gets headshot a few seconds later.

16:43 - Crazy_CTF steals as soldier, after a few shakey moments he manages to get healed by a medic he survives, however a couple moments later he dies.

16:39 - Cap: Hugmaster steals after a brief stalemate he caps.

14:55 - FlickeringEmber steals but dies a few seconds later.

14:23 - Crazy_CTF takes the flag and lasts 15 seconds before dying.

14:19 - Michawesome72 steals the flag as soldier but dies shortly afterwards, Chactation manages to pick it up but dies straight after.

13:32 - Cap: Michawesome72 steals and manages to capture 34 seconds later without losing much health.

12:56 - Cap: Hugmaster steals as chemist, in a final attempt to stop the cap, Crazy_CTF steals the flag only to die seconds later.

12:35 - Game Over! TT wins 5-0


Map 2: Pagodas

19:21 - FlickeringEmber steals red flag

19:19 - Cap: Michawesome72 steals blue flag as soldier and gets support to keep him safe all the way to red flag.

18:33 - hallopiu tries to stop Mich from capping but fails to do so, although he does manage to get to mid, the medic goes the wrong way.

17:47 - Cap: Chactation steals and takes a long, safe route around the map which takes him to red flag.

17:34 - FlickeringEmber tries to hold Chactation’s cap up by stealing but fails.

16:11 - Crazy_CTF steals the flag but dies shortly afterwards.

15:53 - Cap: Michawesome72 steals as soldier and takes a dangerous route straight through the middle of the map, but it works!

14:47 - Game Over: TT win 3-0

Article #3 - Interview with b0squet by gamren

Thanks for allowing me to interview you today. First off we will start off easy, how’s your day going?

Going well so far, thanks. How 'bout you?


Going alright, thanks for asking. Anyhow, first question; When did you first join CTF, and eventually TT?

I first joined CTF quite a while back (my MCPvP join date was April 12th, 2012 according to the website if I recall correctly, probably a bit earlier since there was good while when MCPvP didn't record stats), but I didn't really play much at first. I only really picked the game up on a regular basis around February 2014, not long after the Towny / Kingdoms server I used to staff on shut down. I joined TT not too long after that (around May of the same year), since I was playing on EU servers regularly & I guess they needed an archer. ^^


Awesome, very interesting. Any tips for rising archers/people wishing to improve at the class?

I guess I couple. Firstly, there isn't one 'correct' playstyle

If you start off hiding behind blocks / going after people who aren't paying attention, that's perfectly fine. Archer's a class that plays best when people don't notice you, and a lot of the 'better' archers on the server use tactics like that.

Now, with that said, holding back and staying out of sight isn't as advantageous in matches for the most part. Archer can do a ton of damage both to flagholders/their support and the other team's recovery, and since matches usually have a limited number of people midfielding, you're better off playing more aggressively.

Matches also create an environment where you end up in duels against other archers more frequently. Assuming you have the basics of archer down well enough, everything else in the duel comes down to prediction. Thing is, a lot of the newer archers I see playing end up just predicting where the opponent is going to end up, and not where their opponent's arrows are going to land. That usually manifests in said archers moving from one side to the other, back & forth & back again, as they attempt to dodge arrows. This gets really predictable and won't cut it against anyone with experience playing the class. As such, the best advice I can give in duels is to mix things up - keep the opponent guessing as to where you'll be. In addition, you'll get better over time & with more experience, so don't sweat being killed a bunch by whoever when you've just started - it's arguably the best way to improve. Oh, and you shouldn't always focus on those duels in-game. They're important if the other team's archer is having an impact on the game, but helping win the match is your top priority, so don't get too distracted.


Sweet. Currently TT is looking like the strongest CTF team at the moment, and they are certainly proving so. What are your expectations for upcoming TT matches and possibly a future tourney?

Well, we've been capped against once in our 15+ officials this year. It'd be cool if we could keep that going, although I guess everyone else can take that as a challenge
