Just use ninja to kill it???

If you have played mage enough you'll know it takes skill other then spell spam to kill a very good ninja or assassin attacking you.

 

The Mage is a nice go-to class for the War/WarZ/WildWest players. From what I can tell, Ninjas can kill them rather easily, so I'm not too sure where you're coming from.

 

Pretty sure heavy doesn't take knock back from damage spell now

 

Conclusion:
Fight the mage in an enclosed area and win as any class @aefrogdog

Anything with speed destroys mage, assassin completely counters it, a good ninja destroys it, elf messes it up pretty hard, archer is archer etc...

Mage is pretty much good for stalling, and that's about it.

I can definitely agree on the speed thing. Once you have speed it is easier to dodge the spells (respectively harder for the mage to hit you) and you can easily kill the mage. Same goes for the enclosed area obviously (despite the fact that there's still the lightning spell but this normally doesn't really help much).

I'm not too sure about elf though. Sure, I think there was a time when the reflected projectiles dealt damage back to the mage and this made it pretty easy. This isn't the case now (at least I haven't noticed it?).
Most mages I fight now as elf just keep spamming the damage spell. Either you dodge it as any other class would do or you use your shield. Sure, sometimes you'll be able to reflect the flame spell or freeze spell, and this is basically the whole advantage you had as elf. The pure element? Well, you gotta stand still to pull off the second shot (plus you can't have moved too much since the first shot because of the time window), making you vulnerable again as you can't steak nor shield, have to stand still and still get quite a lot of damage within a short time.
Granted, I'm not a good elf, but I think I can still disagree on elf messing up mage pretty hard?!?
It's maybe a little bit easier than with other classes because you can shield, but other than that?

Mage is one of those classes that is in the shadows in terms of what it's really for. @Xaethros the mages that you see and most likely are writing this complaint about I do agree have little to no skill. It looked like that they were bad with it because they were abusing the class. Any class can be abused it's just that Mage is easier to abuse than most of the other classes. And also Mage's health pool is only infinite in the sense that there is no limit to how many potions that you can use with the heal spell. But I can guarantee you that it takes a really long time for the spells to regenerate and then it all comes down to how efficient you are as a Mage. Also @Miskey mage isn't just used to stall. It can be used against archers, and distract or freeze some key defensive elements. I can also go as far to say that Mage can be used to escort capers (stalling the defenders and recoverers).I do agree, most Mages you see on regular ctf on free day are annoying and are clearly abusing Mage but that doesn't give you can accurate example of every single Mage in CTF.

 

Alright, words from one of the mage mains that knows how to properly use it.

Mages that damage spell spam at definitely obnoxious, but they are significantly easy to defeat if you know to strafe.

Mages like myself, doggies, krider, averagesoda/randy(whatever he is now) know how to use mage properly. You use every tool of your kit if you want to survive against any good player or at least one that isnt an idiot.

Good mages also dont just killwh*re, good mages can cap, can defend very easily, can help recovery with freeze spell(its so satisfying to freeze the carrier and they know they are screwed), as well as escort the carrier and kill/knock away any recovery.

Mages heal spell has a cooldown of 5 seconds and 4 reliable classes can out dps its hps. Mages have to kill the ninja/pyro/assassins/heavies/chemists/pyros(pyros and assassins arent reliable due to them needing instakill or near instakill timing) first or they will die very shortly.

mage isnt just spam spam if you want to master it, you have to be tactical as well as good with your spells. A freeze spell can mean the difference between getting away with the flag or dying in 5 seconds.

 

As elf you have to aim to reflect one or two spells then melee the elf. If you just sit there blocking spells, chances are the mage won't kill themself.

 

If only I was good at ninja XD

 

The biggest thing is to just pearl to avoid freeze/lightning because those spells allow the mage to combo fire and damage spell easily. If you pearl at the correct time you can also get the mages regen spell, which pretty much means you win the 1v1.

I really do miss the days when elf could make mages spell spam themselves to death. Bring it back @Xelasi @b0squet @pumpkinpaw @Quarrelt!

 

I agree, it takes actually using your lightning spell and then spamming. This advanced combo is only able to be used by the best mages, so mage is completely balanced.

Its gameplay is based on stalling the opponent, it's got no default counters, it's terrible at every competitive role, and it can be really good at spawnkilling.

Damage spell/freeze/instant heal is really frustrating deal with, especially if you haven't got assassin or ninja to counter it. It's bad at everything else, so the overwhelming majority of mages just go around random killing.

It's useless competitively and it's not fun to play against. 0/10 do not recommend

Okay mage doesn't take as much skill as, ahem, "people who know how to properly use mage" says it does. There are things like aim and guessing strafes but anyone decent at the game is a decent mage. Plenty of players who don't boast the class as a, "main" are fairly good at it. I'll use pedro, link, and matt as examples of that. Mage isn't necessarily a high skill-set class and if you aren't half bad at strafing then you can avoid spells and kill the mage whether or not in a close space as any class.

So stfu and PLAY MORE CPARTUE THe FLAGgG!!!
