Hmm.. .I hope you don't mind if I contribute my opinion on this matter
I really like your thread @SquishyTrump~ :writer: But maybe the problem is also when someone posts or says something inappropriate then some players support them because they think it’s very funny. So the player just keeps doing it again and again without thinking the damage or consequences that can affect to other players. I know maybe some players would say,” It’s internet deal with it” but….
if we can make Brawl a better community why don’t we? We should be more aware about these things. We don’t want players to get the same experience as SquishyTrump. Even though he was 14 yo, he cried when someone sent a some nasty message. And he still remembers that experience until now! I believe some of us have a little sister or little brother who plays Mc. Could we imagine if this experience happens to them? There are many players who are under 16 yo here. It’s not easy to forget bad or nasty experiences on the internet but if we can at least take a bit of action to prevent it, lets do it together! It’s really good that Lord_Roke and Brawl imposed the Continuous Rule Violations measures. Great job!
Btw, thank you for your thread, SquishyTrump~Your thread is really good! I hope it would open our eyes more about what we can do to make this community a better place to play.

and for the record, yes it will also do something. People sometimes violate the rules with this kind of stuff because they see the punishments as worth the risk. Harsher rules = a bigger risk and so less people are willing to take it. I'm totally with @SquishyTrump that the 40 violations is too leniant with this kind of player.

I will say that we're talking here about extreme rule violations which border on the illegal. However, even if for example the 18+ content distributed in the chat is legal, it doesn't make it fit for a minecraft server, where there are kids playing. Now if they choose to search that rubbish up on their own then that's their problem, but I certainly don't want a minecraft server allowing people to spread that kind of crap, it's a kids game for goodness sake.

I'm really glad that the 2 cases here have been resolved more in a way they should, but there are obviously more out there that need to be stopped. They get unnecessary attention, and the risk of punishment is negligible and so they keep getting that attention. If anything that cycle encourages others to follow in their footsteps because they also see it as worth the risk. It's about time that changed.

There are certain things that should be taken seriously. I happen to agree with @SquishyTrump that these three things should definitely not be joked about on a minecraft server. With your friends in private calls as he puts it, that's different, but it shouldn't be in the chat of a kids game and there's literally no justification for it.

It was a permanent ban on McPvP if you threatened to DDoS someone, and it definitely worked. I see the amount of DDoS threats daily here than I do on McPvP. If we started permanently banning people for DDoS threats now, it would hopefully end some of these issues.
A permanent ban instead of a week kick would be taking it more seriously. Its worked before - the only new issue that arises that McPvP did not have is alters, but ideally they're already an issue and I don't think this change would increase this issue much.

After two DDoS offenses, it needs to be a permanent identity ban -- meaning a ban across all the player's alternates and a ban-on-sight policy to back it all up. To enforce that, you'd need better alternate account detection and you'd need staff members dedicated to doing this.

Currently, no one really cares enough to proactively find alternate accounts and enforce ban-on-sight policies. The dwindling player base of Brawl also proves to be an issue, as the admins would likely end up constructing a ban wave, resulting in a loss of at least 5% of the current player base.

The sad truth of it is that these policies should have been put in place years ago when Brawl was in its prime. Now that the player count is more-or-less in a downward spiral, there's not a lot of room to experiment with policy or even govern. Banning offensive players, and thereby bettering the community, will not increase the amounts of players anymore. It will only go to reduce it.

Theoretically, with the interest of retaining players, Brawl shouldn't be banning any legitimate player.

I definetly get your point (and somewhat agree), but most of Minecraft's player base are young kids and get offended and leave due to these offensive players. So banning very inappropriate players (the new protocol) wouldn't really change the player base at all; probably even make it rise. And I don't think punishing offensive players anyway does make them leave the server :v

I'd agree. More people would definitely be more willing to stick around if they weren't victim to this kind of crap as well. They probably make more people leave than they ever provide. Any new players we do get we need to retain, and these people are DEFINITELY pushing new people away.

I'm just going to add here that my server perma-bans for DDoS threats, even if it's a joke, because even joking about DDoSing can get you arrested in Germany. People have had their PCs actually confiscated after making Swatting jokes, because according to German internet law, the server owner has full responsibility otherwise.
Not too sure on Canadian or American laws on this, but I'd imagine it's similar.

I'm talking about legal action. And I know pretty much most of the story behind MCPVP's views on that one.
