Idea Old timer's day (Comparible to freeday, but for maps)

    Hey Brawl this is Wizzlol707. You may know me for my lame jokes XD. Anyways, I had a recommendation that involves CTF. As you know (of course), Brawl has a freeday, which is Friday, where you can do ALL the classes. I had an idea that looks a little bit like that. Here goes.

    Idea: as you ALSO of course know, there's a so-called 'map wave' where the selected maps get played, and the others only get played on special occasions. My idea was to have one SPECIAL day where old/unselected maps get played. That you would have six days with the normal rotation (the maps that are selected in the wave,) and ONE day where you play maps that haven't been in the rotation for a while (like Metro, Citadel, Air Balloons, Airlock etcetera) and maps that haven't been selected (like Summer, Conquest, Long Hall, Elemental Collision etcetera). This could be Super Saturday, Super Sunday, Mega Monday, Old-timey Tuesday or something like that. I don't think it should be Friday though. (Because freeday and this day together? Let's face it: NAH.) I think Monday or Sunday would be best, because Sunday rocks and Monday you'll have something to look forward to coming home from school.

    Just a recap: six days with regular rotation, one day with old and unselected maps. This is just an idea that I thought could be nice to have.

    I had an idea similar to this only where people choose the map they want to play on. Didn't know if my idea would work but yours is definatly thought out. +1.

    You mean all the player would vote for a map before the game to choose? I could see a few issues with that but nice idea. It'd really show which maps should be removed.

    Being a player from 2012, this is spicy, I plus one this idea too, the new maps are way to confusing to play in terms of mobility and routes, plus there to complex with the build design, we need more maps like Blackout imo. Anyway, point is new maps are garbage, and the old maps are lit af.

    Cool! Thanks guys! One request: if you know a Mod, can you plz send him to this thread and leave a reaction? I'll do my best to see if this can actually get used. I thought a waveless map day could be cool! (There are always ppl saying they want to do Air Balloons and Metro). So, yeah, if you see/know a ctf mod, plz send him/her to this thread :smile:

    I find this idea awesome!!! Especially for all the 2012 players this will be a nice event with memories. Brawl should definitely do that.

    sounds good, just please for the love of god don't bring back the maps like ship battle, there's a reason they're where they are now, and will probably never see the light of day again for the same reasons.

    Only reason why old maps are fun to play on is for the nostalgia. If you could literally play them once a week, the nostalgia will be gone, really. It could be cool if staff members every so often set the maps to some old ones, since that used to happen a lot before and its seemed to stop.

    Yeah but SoCool21, the point of this is to have one SPECIAL day where only old or unselected maps get played. I do agree that the nostalgia loses it's effect, but at least you'll have one day where you have a chance to play Air Balloons or Citadel or whatever. The nostalgia DOES kinda lose it's effect, but I know a lot of people who miss maps like Airlock and unholy faith and stuff, so I thought it could be kinda cool if this got into the rotation. It's only for one day.

    One day in the week I mean

    A special day where old/unselected maps get played could be cool; its something I've been wanting for a while. However, once a week will ruin the whole point in this happening. The only reason people generally enjoyed playing old maps were because of the nostalgia and that they're different. Like, once a month it was fun to play crap maps like Citadel or other old maps, but if I had to play on this map too often then it would no longer be special. The maps are gone for a reason. Although playing them every so often would be nice, playing them too often would destroy the reason to do so.

    It was fine when staff members would set the maps to be old maps with some fancy command in-game every so often. It used to happen a lot a while ago, but it seems to never happen anymore (in fact, the only recent one I can occur was when ikemulti played a few of his old maps). Not really sure why it never happens - as far as I know, the staff are allowed to do so. Unless I'm wrong about that, perhaps they should be done some more.

    I think reintroducing old maps is something that would be more suited to an event as oppose to a weekly thing! As SoCool mentioned above regarding nostalgia, if the maps were playable once-a-week they just become regular maps!

    However, if they were to be reintroduced in special CTF events for a limited time then I believe it could definitely be a popular suggestion!

    I didn't mean the same maps, I meant like take ALL old and unselected maps, and spread them out over the year (one the map day). But yeah, I REALLY want to try to get this into the rotation :grinning:
    Don't worry, I have another idea:

    How about, we take like say 15 or 20 maps and put them on one of the map days. This way nobody will miss the maps for that day. And then we take like 15 or 20 more maps for the next rotation map day, same reason. That way, the nostalgia will still be there.

    And I don't just mean old maps like Citadel and Air Balloons, I meant like maps that didn't make the wave. (Check out Pavocado's 'CTF maps that never were' thread.) Sometimes, if people's maps haven't been selected, they sometimes get bummed out about it. This way, there's a (small) chance their maps get selected on this day.

    I did happen to go through the old removed maps from the MSW tournament, so I have a list of maps which aren't utterly terrible to play on. I could give the list to the staff for them to look at and see if those would work for this idea
