    Sup!

I have a different, and simple way to vote on staff applications.

There should just be 2 new ratings, only for the section of staff applications. A "Yes" with a green check-mark, and a "No" with a red X.

It would make it so you can always see who voted without having to click an extra setting, it also seems quite easy to create.

    Just a thought, thanks!

What if they don't want you seeing who said yes or no?

I don't see why you would mind that...although that is somewhat true.

Some people like to have privacy. Pretty sure my app had it private

There is no need to do this as xenforo already has polls that work.

How about allowing normal people to comment on apps because it's annoying having to go to their profile.

It won't happen. They're afraid of abuse, even though most staff members reply less than community members.....

:frowning: that is so sad... how can we expect to become a great server if there is no communication between the staff and community? All staff members should spend at least a week as a normal player. I guarentee that would make the staff system change within like a day

Actually that isn't a bad idea.... hmmm @0racle I have an idea. @TheMightyHead

Agreed with @Doges, there's no need for new 'yes' or 'no' ratings. The current polls are fine.

This was a thing back in 2014 (@Atum remembers) and from what I've read (on those applications where there was public comment) it wasn't an issue. I don't see why it anyone shouldn't be able to comment on staff applications. It would allow the general community to give more direct feedback about applicants as well as more weight to their opinions on them by opening up the same avenue for comment which exists for staff.

The only issue I could see with this (which I did not see in any of the old applications I looked at) would be people posting hurtful or threatening (not to mention spam) comments on someone's staff application. But since any instance of that can be resolved within minutes via a report I don't think it would be a reason to not treat staff application threads like a thread by a member in any other section.

To make a simple comparison, everyone can reply on Build team application, and I personally think this system works better than Jmod apps. Also about the issue @Dankmastr mentioned, I never saw any hurting or disrespectful message in the build applications, but that might be because the applications for the build team are not enough highlighted, while it is as hard to work on your building capacities than working your teamspeak activity.

That was just my opinion, don't want to open an off-topic debate about the build team apps. ^

I have to disagree with you. In my opinion the system we currently have is pretty good. Somewhere in December 2013 I wrote my first staff application and I have to admit it was really bad. But the feedback (everyone could give feedback back then) was even worse. The hate and flame I got was unbelievable and maybe I'd have applied much earlier a second time, if the feedback would have been better.
It might be the community has changed, but I am not really sure about that, to be honest.
I think I can say I am very close to the community. 10 days ago I was a normal player, as everybody and I absolutely know how it feels. Nevertheless - I still think ordinary members shouldn't be able to respond on staff application, as mentioned above. And if you look at the profile posts by non-staff-members... they (mostly) aren't really helpful at all.
Though - I understand where you come from, maybe we could add that Builders/Wikiteam members can write a respond, but please, please, not everybody.

I don't think that would do much tbh. They should spend a week as an smod haha.

Aside from this though, I agree with having players comment on apps. Staff can remove the rude comments, and moderate it all, plus there can be harassment anywhere about it. If anything, this would channel it down.

I don't like this. The reason staff comment is to sum up what others are thinking. I'm sure the reason you voted +1 has already/will be mentioned by a staff member. If not, go comment on their profile. Simple.

    I remember that :L

What about if you disagree with the staff? Or, you believe the staff's vote is biased.

I'm really not sure why we would need a new rating system just for staff applications, when the current polls system is very in-depth, and works so well.

However, regarding the idea of everyone being able to reply to staff applications, I like it. I notice a very healthy amount of people that just kiss-up to staff prior to applying, and staff will then go and be biased in their reply. On a staff application, I think it's best to get all opinions.
I am sure that there occasionally would be some off-topic or flamey replies to the applications, but like already mentioned above, moderators could easily keep an eye on that, and delete nonessential posts.
Also, just an idea: Maybe it would be best to keep non-staff members restricted to only being able to post one reply to the application, just to keep unnecessary discussion from cluttering and hiding the more important replies.

Would be interesting to experiment with, I think it would be good to bring the staff closer to the community, because there is so much tranparency, and I don't like it one bit.

Or just Only Well Known members so we at least expect some seriousness. And those people probably know more than new / active members.
