Staff Applications

Discussion in 'Suggestions / Ideas' started by SweetLava, Feb 25, 2017.

?

Which idea do you like the most?

  1. 1- Media, Wiki and Build Team should be given access to comment on Staff Apps.

    63.6%
  2. 2- All 3 teams PLUS Lifetime MVP's and VIP's should be given access to comment on Staff Apps.

    18.2%
  3. We should keep it as it is. (So only Mods + can comment)

    18.2%

    1. Let Wiki, Media, Build Team and Former Staff members comment on Staff Applications.

Currently, only other staff members are able to comment on staff applications.
See I never realised this before being on the Wiki Team, but if you click this link you'll see that the Wiki Media and Build Team come up as part of the staff team.
    https://www.brawl.com/staff-team/list

Since they come up as part of the staff team, I believe they should have the right to comment on staff applications. If these people can be trusted for e.g, update anything they want on the wiki, I think they are more than capable enough to comment on staff applications.

Edit: I added in former staff members into option 1 since I forgot about that group, also it was a good suggestion from @Dankmastr_Memesn .
Option 1 in the poll includes Former Staff members

    2. Let Wiki, Media and Build Team Comment. ALSO Lifetime MVP's and VIP's.

This one is pretty self explanatory, I myself am unsure of this second idea. This is because I don't think ALL Lifetime MVP's and VIP's are sensible enough, a few may ruin it for all.
However, it's just another idea and I want people to vote on whichever they like.

Why I think we need additional people commenting on Staff Applications:

I feel like certain staff members don't always comment on staff apps, because they either don't have the time or can't be bothered to write a long reply. Fair enough.
What I've also realised is that the people who apply and are friends with quite a few staff members have more staff commenting on their application. Some people's apps slightly get ignored by most and don't get enough explanation.
If more people were able to comment, I feel the applicant would be receiving much more detailed feedback.

    EDIT:
I thought of that, but not everyone in this community is sensible or mature enough. Also, spam.

Here's an idea: let everyone comment on staff applications.

So because a few people can't manage their behavior everyone's opinions and feedback should not be given an equal amount of exposure?

If someone is flaming or spamming or whatever then report them and it will be deleted. I don't see how staff applications are unique in that respect.

A few is a lot in this community. The staff members don't need an extra task on trying to prevent people from spamming and flaming on staff applications. There was a time when everyone could comment under staff apps, it just didn't work out. That's why I only listed certain groups.

But it's okay for applicants to have to deal with that (on their profile pages) instead? This is like a politician saying that they shouldn't have to interact with the public because someone might be mean to them. If someone's spamming or flaming then the staff should take care of it. That's no reason to give greater voice to staff comments or opinions and less to community members.

Staff applications are important. If staff members are able to publicly comment on people applying to be their 'co-workers' why shouldn't community members (especially former staff members) be able to do the same for people who are also applying to be their moderators?

Forgot about former staff members, that is a good idea they should be able to comment.
Still don't agree with the whole community being able to comment on an official staff app, we've tried it before, it simply doesn't work well.

You should change the 1st vote option it looks like it means to only let the various teams comment. Emphasis on 'only' lol

Ah you're right, but it disallows me to change it. If everyone reads everything carefully I'm sure they'll understand what I mean just like you did

Could possibly become problematic. It's kept to staff only so that replies would be from players who understand what is expected of being a staff member. Not saying some aren't capable of that. I'm sure plenty are. Imo though, I don't think this is a good idea.
It's easier to manage one place then to manage two places.

imo staff apps should be 100% private. only people who should see staff apps are the applicants and the staff team. no reason for the community to be involved w/ it at all

However, Putty treats the wiki/media team as part of the staff team. He expects them to behave appropriately as they also represent Brawl. Letting them be allowed to comment on applications could possibly be beneficial.

Disagree with you completely on this Mario. People need to voice their views and they wouldn't be able to do that if the apps were 100% private.

That option wouldn't even be considered by Putty therefore I didn't add it. Let's move on.

i personally don't believe that matters at all. if i'm a staff manager, i'm not going to look at community feedback on a specific applicant because i don't believe that the community's opinion is relevant

@SweetLava now of course, what i'm saying is different from whether or not wiki/build team deserves to have input on staff apps. giving them access to staff apps is very "iffy" because there is so much that they don't have access to already (ingame privileges, access to staff slack, trellos, etc.) thus making it very hard to justify giving them access to staff apps because then their opinion practically seems equivalent to any other player's opinion from the community.

Staff managers are never in game. Us players know the applicants eg in game attitude so much better than the higher up staff. Plus, if a serious amount of people didn't respect the applicant, but the higher up didn't care and promoted him/her then do you realise how many players you would lose? It's happened before. No one would take that applicant seriously. The communities opinion matters and we should always be considered and listened to.

If anyone other than staff should reply it should be ex-staff members who have had experience with the job that the person is applying for. Other than that, I can't see any reason for anyone to give their feedback in any other form than the poll vote. They simply lack experience.

I will not name anyone, but there are some people who have acquired a position such as wiki team or media team but aren't mature enough to have these privileges. Same goes for some ex-staff members who are angry with brawl and wish to cause disruption.
In my opinion, I feel as though staff applications are fine as is.
