Idea Archer nerf

    Archers are way too strong because they can snipe, there is just 1 premium class which can reflect the arrows. But most players do not have that class. So i have came up with an idea: replace the sniping for a power bow, this will be more balanced since you cannot instant kill people anymore and it is still powerful.

    Just removing the headshot and making the bow deal less damage would make archer UP. I think archer is one of the few classes which still need to be nerfed, but its harder to do than just reduce the damage.

    I think you should block with the sword to not get headshoted, but the arrow would still deal a good damage. It's like what you do to not get instakilled by an assassin and would make sense imo.

    This has been come up with several times before, and the general consensus was it isn't a good idea. You're giving archers more tools to be annoying short range, which is the opposite of what this class is supposed to do. Archers are supposed to be powerful long range and weaker short range. It's arguable they're already too strong short range as is, let's not give them any more tools for that. If you want to think more about this, why don't you think of a mechanic with the same requirements as a headshot but with less power (whilst still making archer useful)

    CTF needs to move away from using blocking mechanics. We'll need to update to 1.9 eventually.

    I know the 30 block-thing might be annoying, but come on, really? Archer has terrible armor, terrible sword and if one bowspams he doesn't do much damage anyway. I just don't get why people hate this class so much. EVERY class has something strong about it. Medic with healing sword, Soldier can climb walls, Heavy with the fact that it's practically a juggernaut, elf in general, necro with blazes, pyro with the berserk, assassin with the insta-kill, mage in general, chemist in general, dwarf if it's strong, ninja invis, engi turret. Archer's strong point is the longshots. Why would you want to remove the strong part of archer? It'll be the only class that DOESN'T have something strong. However, this is just my point of view, but in my opinion we have bigger problems than archer.

    Maybe make archer do like no dmg at close range and as the range gets longer the shot does more damage.

    well, idk. If it improves the gamemode, ok. I just like archer a lot and it gets me if someone comments about it :/ . But, if nerfing archer helps gameplay, then ok go ahead. I just get wound up about archer xD.

    Imo archer can tank quite a lot in close combat and that shouldn't be the case. I played archer more frequently lately because there has been an increase in engineers (kill me) and I have been able to kill quite a few players without losing too much health. That and punch I isn't much different from punch II and still makes bowspammers more annoying to kill than mages.

    okay if short range damage is bad, then maybe remove sword becuz archers shouldnt have melee weapon. that way archer has to bow spam harder and faster to survive and it is funner.

    And assassin eventually will need to move away from block, then do the same thing you'd do to preveng being assessinated to prevent being headshoted.
    Nobody camps in a place when you can get headshoted?

    If this were added, you could camp anywhere with water while blocking and you wouldn't be able to get instakilled.

    You can actually do it just being anywhere with water and a place where you cannot get headshoted, like a flag room. I also said that you would not get instakilled but still get a decent damage so I think that is enough.

    That 'good damage' will be completely nullified if there are any medics around, which is usually the case with flag carriers/most teams. Also your suggestion would make it much harder to take out Engineers as (aside from other Engineers, Necro, and maybe Chemist Archer is Engineer's only reliable counter) they could just block and heal whatever damage was taken from the headshot via their cake. This goes back to the camping thing as well. It would also be more difficult to take out groups of players near Engineer's entrance/exit portals or other structures as they can just block, heal, and move on, which makes camping considerably harder to deal with. Elves would be almost impossible to kill.

    No thanks.

    You don't understand. During matches in a stake mate, the 3 best ways to recover are an assassin, an archer or a group of soldiers, ninjas or heavies. If you can block and be unheadshotable that's very op because you are taking out 2 easy ways to recover with.

    As i stated, maybe make archers deal more damage when there is more range. They would still be able to headshot all classes but they cannot snipe the more armored classes easily. This probably will balance it more, the 30 block range would instant kill engineers and classes with similar armor.
