In-Game Polls

Hello guys,

Well, I've been thinking about how staff takes decisions regarding if some game mode features should be added/removed/changed (I'm referring to all game modes in general). Implementing or removing features split the community, most of the time, but we keep on a democracy and go for the one which is most preferred by the players. Threads that inform the community about changes to be added are created with a poll that helps narrow whether the community agrees with the implementations to be made or not. But, does it gives a good narrow actually?

Since 2012 Brawl has had 3,635,235 players who have joined at least once to one of the servers but we only have 38,599 forums members.* Let's do some math:

The number of players who join Brawl and also create a forums account:

= 106/10000 = 53/5000 = 1/102// 1.06% (approx.)

In other words, only 1 out of 102players join Brawl and also create a forums account.

Having barely 1% of the players with a forums account can lead the staff team to take decisions that are not necessarily what the "real community" wants (players without a forums account).

I believe there are 2 principal reasons why a game mode "dies":

• The extreme lack of updates and new features/perks/additions. i.e SPvP (Same map for more than a year)
• A significant amount of unnecessary updates which damage the player base rather than increasing it. i.e Wild West (https://www.brawl.com/threads/64310/ )

In my honest opinion, the best way to keep a game mode alive is not to go to the extremes of any scenario explained before. And the most important thing: Decision making.

In order to keep most of the game modes alive and to increase the player retention ratio. I came up with an idea:

In-Game Polls:

The idea is pretty simple. Whenever the staff comes up with a new feature/change a poll in game will be created. I know it would take time to develop an interface for the poll. Consequently, a third party would host the survey/poll site. There is a lot of websites where you can create your own customised poll for free and get live results in a friendly way. The most popular ones:

• 123ContactForm https://www.123contactform.com/free-online-poll-maker.htm (Favourite one)
• Google https://www.docs.google.com/forms

The poll link would be shown by the console in game. Players will click on it > get redirected to the poll > answer "Yes" / "No" / "Maybe". A link to the main thread will be also included in the poll site.

The thing is that players must create a forum account in order to vote or give feedback.

 

Well, then smods+should be doing that more often. I don't believe 100% of the changes staff implement are made with a previous in game poll. Plus, how long did the event last for? Not all the player base attended. My suggestion brings up a poll that lasts for at least 5 days in order to get a better narrow of players preferences.

These are just some potential ideas made by staff members which, in my opinion, deserve or deserved an in-game poll.
