That 2,000 word essay of a post above should have responded to pretty much everything said on this thread.

I've yet to be convinced. The main argument against removing soup is that it'll annoy the long-term players, but they don't even play anymore anyway... :v

What? That is nowhere near the main argument.

I love soup HG too and will probably never play more than a few games if they remove it but at this point there is no 'community to split'. They gotta innovate or it will shutdown. Its really sad though :frowning:

That's the best one I've seen so far, albeit for its fatal flaw.

This is exactly my point. There's no community left anymore - we may make changes that old McPvP players dislike, but everyone other than one person has stopped playing regularly now. The drawback on Brawl is very minor if we make a change McPvP players dislike, and this drawback will be negligible if it attracts new players and improves player retention, creating a new community and a new, revived gamemode.

    So, arguments against removing Soup:
    1. It will scare off MCPvP players in a number of ways. Firstly, the remaining people like me, and secondly, people that see that Soup has been removed will frown upon that as well.
    2. This will cause MAJOR game inbalance. Currently, the meta on most HG servers (including Brawl) is to farm mushrooms, get a sword, and fight, or get a structure, soup, and then fight. Removing Soup will make structures very, very strong. Additionally, have you ever hunted in NS (NoSoup)? I can say, from personal experience, that it is utter, utter hell. If you enter a contested area (e.g. the spawn), you'll get massive teams cleaning you off, solo players just hanging around, waiting to come in, loot-scoop, and kill you as well, and guess what? You can't do **** about it. There are no longer healing kits in the game (with the noted exception of CookieMonster) - you're at 2 hearts after a balanced fight, you can't heal, and then boom! Dead after a long streak. This is very frustrating.
    3. Another issue is that removing soup is inviting players to employ the "run-and-gun" (or, more accurately, run-and-hit) strategy: hitting you once, as soon as you try and fight back they run away. You give chase, they turn around and give you a hit or two, and run, and run. With the removal of Ninja (shame - it was an awesome kit) this has been made even easier.
    4. Despite this, other kits are now going to be ridiculous. Thor, for example, or Boxer - both of these have abilities which are amplified in their already-heightenend power by removing Soup as a health source.
    5. And another kit will be unbalanced as hell: Endermage. Certain Endermage traps (cue @Miskey, @aefrogdog and @Bllod) are either inescapable without soup, or require a lot of work to crack - without a health source, good luck. Even with full diamond from the feast.
    6. Before you say "But wait! This can be fixed easily!"...nope.
    7. No coders.
    8. HG, despite in my view needing the coder time, is on the back burner at the moment due to various matters.
These are the things off of the top of my head @SoCool21, if I remember more I'll add them.

I quit HG a few years ago because souping was getting so silly. At first it was "Can I find the swamp before the game starts?" So it was a niche tactic. Later you could make soup out of virtually anything. "Ooh, a deadly desert. How wonderful, now I'm unbeatable because I have soup." It really sucked the joy out of the game for me. The only viable strategies were using stomper, insta-kill-trap Kaya (all about luck) or urgal and kill the other before he can retaliate. I didn't play Starcraft 2 back then so I couldn't soup like most people, apparently. I woud LOVE for no soup to come back. At first it was about HUNGER, you had to do everything to survive, like use bones to get that single bread to keep going. By the end of my "career", it was first person Starcraft. (For those who don't know what I mean by Starcraft, watch a few seconds of this video, and look at his hands while he plays:
    )

I hope you can somehow revive HG as I loved it so much when it was fresh. I bought about 6 kits and I had to fight hard to get my parents to accept this. Just for the nostalgia, make HG great again!

I'd prefer something like UHC meet up on badlion but with a bit of a twist.

The McPvP players either don't play HG anymore, or play simpleHG. We can't appeal to McPvP players because we can't compete with simpleHG - we don't have enough HG servers, or 1.7, to do this.

How will removing soup change the meta much? People will just skip out the farming mushrooms bit.

I have hunted in NS - I used to play it quite a lot. I never found an issue but the game was much more strategic. In Soup, you'll still find teams. The difference is, in NS, you can kill the team by hitting them into lava. In Soup, you can only kill that team if you are good at souping, which is something new players will need to practice, which they are not willing to do.

I literally never saw this happen ever, in hundreds of games of NS.

When the revamp comes out, the kits will probably be revamped to suit no-soup. The only exception is my idea of changing HG to NS as a "last-ditch effort". Sure, it may make the game unbalanced, but at least we'll have some sort of player retention.

When HG gets it's revamp, I'll make sure it gets the dev time it needs to get the revamp, even if I have to code the thing myself. We don't have dev time now, but other than my "last-ditch effort" idea, NS will not be a thing until we have the dev time to change the kits up.

    Let me just say:
    2. It becomes strategy > skill (souping). This makes it more noob friendly (i can actually stand a chance to beat you now)
    3. Ninja made that worse tbh. I played Ninja back when there was no soup and won every game. I hit someone, run away, shifted, hit, ran, until he died. I'm glad Ninja is gone (I hate that kit)

Ninja is pretty broken, I'll agree.
I ran into hit-and-runners every game - Ninja either helped you if you used it, or killed you if he used it.

    Bump.

HOLD UP, simple hg has been down for the last 2 days. And guess who just decided to play our hg server, oh, only the entire freakin simple hg community, also the one and only BastiGHG was on Brawl.com playing hg yes, you heard that right, BastiGHG, if you dont know who he is he has 200k subs on youtube. Now, I'm not saying the simple hg is going to be down for ever but, when it does go down the entire simple hg community falls back to brawl, putting hg at more players then the entire server averages, personally i think the amount of people if you keep soup with simple falling back on brawl, compared to the amount of people when you remove soup playing, will be out numbering. If you remove soup simple hg wont even bother coming back to brawl to play hg. also having players from simple come to brawl would boost the entire brawl server too, maybe trying out other game modes and staying.

Another idea for hg is not being able to lose food for the first five minutes (just like simple) it's really annoying and i play simple instead of brawl hg just for that reason.

Sorry about my grammar but i didnt feel like it.

If Brawl keeps HG until Simple dies (which it is at the moment), then BrawlHG will have players again.

Yes, that too, and by keeping HG, that includes keeping soup. HG is not HG without soup.

Also, you guys need to make the kits free, always, your not going start a new community by having 3 kits you can use. (I forget the number)

    Which peak? Please specify.
The alltime record was, I believe, 39000 players on at once.

There were 70 on Friday afternoon, which is pretty good IMO.
Today's was 31, which is pretty good for all of Brawl's gamemodes.
