But some people who would be good would only want to spend short periods of time playing the game (matches), moderators should be playing more actively than some of these people that should be refs.

 

^^ Tbh, I think the real question: who might be suited for/ mature enough for / actually interested in a staff position right now?

A lot of really good candidates are either not interested, are inactive, or just aren't as involved in/informed on the entire team scene and culture. An ideal candidate would also be someone able to put their own ego aside to work with staff as a team member.

Any ideas of people without recent flame, maturity issues, or conflicting motives would be helpful. Maybe opening apps would give people a reason to improve on that as well, as you'd mentioned elsewhere.

Most or a lot team members don't play CTF regularly, they play it for the team scene. This could be the same with moderating/reffing.

 

I did have this idea the other day about having a staff rotation system so people could work on and off months and have more motivation through active months..... erm, I guess I'll make a thread or see if someone else has brought it up.


Interesting concept to bring up, though applying it to the ref idea. I feel like the people we'd need in that ref position would be active ones, unless we're taking the "Ref Rank" concept and making it more like the original Build "Trusted Rank" concept and have it as something people could apply for and keep (within reason) without being forced to punch a Brawl timecard.

 

No decent candidate though, spoken to basically all mods and none really thought there was a good candidate for the position

2. i still think it should be implemented, in a way like build team maybe? and pls you dont need to be in the committee to make sure people follow the rules in matches >~>

 

^ Ref rank could be pretty much considered like part of the wiki team or build team.

Imo being a ref should not necessarily abide with being suitable for staff application. As for maturity and toxicity, imo are highly indifferent, so long as the ref displays a non biased and mature observation of a match, and good knowledge of the rules and punctual as well as the ability to make genuine and quick decisions.

If referees are really to be chosen, behaviour on the match server as a player and also as a spectator should be noted more than behaviour in casual servers, where the ref wouldn't even have the power or rank to accomplish anything that they can in the match servers.

Tl;dr refs should be based by their observation skills, non bias and punctuality in setting maps before matches, as well as decent to moderate maturity during matches, not on casual servers
