The Xray's gone WAY too far

Drone, it's like I'm following you, 3 out of 5 alerts I get are from you posting, lol.
On a more serious note, if MODs don't come after a few /report or /support s, I just travel around Brawl looking for one, and CTF usually has a MOD on it.

 

This is said with such confidence yet such ignorance that it really irritates me.

I used to record every ban I made and I was literally unable to continue to do so. I'd start uploading these videos when I went to sleep, and by the time I woke up, they were still uploading. As such, I started "queuing" them up on my PC and ran out of space to store videos. So yes, there is an excuse, shockingly enough.

Not to mention; I'll gladly accept a pay check from you at the end of every month, but otherwise moderating is not a "job" for any of us.

In the nicest way possible, I don't think you realise how difficult it is to ban for xray. Here's what you need to take into consideration when banning a player for xray:

• Are they using "F3+A"? (and no, you can't rely on them moving to the left to see if they're using it, as you can set moving left to another key)
• Are they in F5?
• Does anyone have a UAV active?
• Has the player (or any other player) being xrayed done anything to give away their position? This can be as simple as being seen walking behind a wall, for example. Or, it can be as obscure as the sound of their footsteps giving them away or seeing the text above a tag being picked up through a wall.
• Is the "xrayer" just pre-shooting round a high-traffic area of the map?
• Could they just be plain lucky?
• Possibly another technique a few players used that's never before even crossed my mind.

And every single point that I brought up here has been excuses used by players we've banned in the past in appeals. Banning for xray is easily the hardest hack to ban for, and I'll harshly criticise any decision to ban for xray unless it's been discussed rigorously throughout the staff team beforehand (and I have done so in the past).

This is largely out of our control. In the last few months, there's been just one noteworthy staff applicant for War. We can't control who applies for staff.

The idea of "handpicking" staff members is usually brought up here, so allow me to touch on that: handpicking staff members in the past have been very badly received by the community, as I can say from my own experience. I was handpicked just a month and a half after resigning and remaining active in the community - outside of my friends, most people took it badly and some even decided to send death threats to me.

That's what happens, really. Treat staff members like crap, and you get crap staff members. When you generalise staff members in this sense, any bad staff member won't care, and any good staff member will be demotivated.

 

Correct, they don't. We do record any ban which isn't completely blatant (it's not an "official" rule, but it's common sense), but if it's a blatant hack like someone speed hacking or using obvious anti knockback, very few staff members would record.
