don't you dare to consider the pvp system. There are multiple ways how to get the old pvp system in 1.9+>

Why does it matter if we're 1.9+?

No reason to switch, all of the other bigger servers are still 1.8 based so switching has no point, most of players are also still 1.8+.

because 1.9 blatantly sucks hairy donkey balls for pvp. Doesn't matter what other servers do. The specific minecraft version is just pure cancer. Have you tried to write an entire server system core before? No? Ok.

No point if you're still gonna treat 1.9+ as 1.8. Just a waste of time to code.

switching has no point because other servers don't switch either?
I think that people would be happy with new blocks and/or new class designs
I also think people would switch over to 1.9+ if the server simply updated 1.9+

We are not 1.9+ because we can not use the blocks or any other 1.9+ ingame feature

well you catch the 1.9+ players in your community and add new blocks/features.

Yes, it does cost time but at least we will be able to move on with ctf

you should really read the thread first.
Anyway, I have never tried to write an entire server system core. I'm sure it takes a lot of time and I do respect the effort of the devs. But at some point we have to update

All of the other big servers are still 1.8 based, we would lose players if we updated is what I'm implying. We would also most likely need to recode a ton of stuff, which is unnecessary when we can just keep higher player counts with 1.8.

We will slowly die if we never update to a newer mc version.:frowning::nailbiting:
Majority of new minecraft players use the latest versions. :open_mouth:
    Slow painful death. :dead:

A majority of servers use 1.12 as well, but most servers that use complicated plugins for pvp like CTF are still on 1.8 too. As far as CTF goes, there's no incentive to rewrite everything and upgrade except being able to say we're a 1.12 server and maybe using some new blocks in maps.

For a task that would take both devs at least 2 years to do, I don't see many benefits of updating to the latest Minecraft version. New coloured blocks and parrots are cool but so is having meaningful updates and gamemodes which aren't stale; I'd rather have the latter.

I did read the post, and updating is worse. Literally changing one thing can throw an entire platform into chaos. It's not oh add this or remove this. It requires months of testing and writing to make it happen.

I think that the amount of players who won't update their 1.8.9 minecraft to 1.9+ is smaller than the amount of players we can get due to the 1.9+ features and blocks

And a lot more features. I kinda have the feeling ctf is slowly dying.
Do you know how amazing a minecraft shield could counter an archer (just an idea)

I do not think it will take 2 years
I think 6 months maximum (idk how long they work each day tho)

Yes but we can't stay 1.8.9 forever... we will simply lose players to servers who updated their game modes to 1.9+ (with 1.8.9 pvp ofcourse)

I don't think that they will complain about ctf not getting an update. I think they will leave for a server who does or they will complain about ctf dying.

<<< can somebody actually confirm how long it could take to rewrite ctf (or entire brawl) for 1.9+

You would have to rewrite entire brawl, because even though CTF is still connectable by separate servers, all of the important data such as player information stats, etc, would have to be saved and handled. They are one in the same.

Well first of all taking into account how fricken long it takes for an update for one class, the lack of a proper coder, and the fact that the ENTIRITY OF BRAWL would have to switch over to 1.12/1.9+ for it to be possible, it would certainly take quite a long time. By that time most likely more updates would have come out, and we’d be presented with the same issue. Its probably safe to say Brawl stays 1.8 for quite some time if not till it dies.
Also, there would be major issues with plenty of classes that would have to be handled, new mechanics to be worked in, etc which just adds on to the time required to update, not to mention issues with all of Brawls other servers/gamemodes.

One last note thats more just arguing than anything, if u don’t like 1.8 style combat its quite simple, don’t play. I know I and quite a few others personally don’t like the new 1.9 style, but thats just my nitpicking and not relevent to the topic.

Majority of minecraft players play on the bigger servers, which the bigger servers are 1.8 versions. A bigger server in specific has even claimed that they are never going to update, and on-top of that Mojang is too afraid to shut them down for breaking the EULA because of them servicing a majority of the "minecraft population". You asked why we won't update, multiple people have given you the reasons, there isn't anything to debate here.

Ultimately nobody of relevancy is updating/basing their servers on 1.9+ versions. Since the majority of players are still in 1.8 versions, it is only common sense to also stay 1.8.
