    2017 Team Statistics

Hey guys, it’s Hana, back at it again with some stellar statistics from the CTF Match Spreadsheet!

Starting in November 2015, we’ve been collecting data on the CTF team scene, and now is as good a time as any to look back at 2017. This review marks our second full year of data, so the numbers just keep growing - if you’re TC, that is! With every passing year, we lose some great teams, but we also get to witness new teams emerging! As always, you can find the raw data and learn more in the Stats Archive Page of the CTF Match Spreadsheet, but if you don't have access, feel free to ask here or find me on Discord!

Hana’s Teams of the Year - The Best and the Worst

    The Best:
2017 was… Underwhelming, to say the least. Last year, we saw an epic statistical battle with new kids on the block RR taking down the seasoned TT, but this year, the stats lacked fire. The teams’ names were fiercer than their numbers. I commend TT and DF for their high Win/Loss ratios, but nothing was truly groundbreaking. Numerically, TT is our Top Team based on Win/Loss and Win/Total numbers!

    The Worst:
Speaking of underwhelming, I’d like to give a special shoutout to Journey (JRNY), The Red Foxes (TRF), The Academy (TA), and The Legion (TL.) for having matching scorelines! 0-0-0! SuperNova (SN) also falls into this category, but as they disbanded in February, I will not hold this against them. Keep in mind, these statistics are only for 2017, but their 0-0-0 records are still questionable.

Now you may think “Hana, surely teams like Emoji (EMJ) and Morimur Invictus (MI) with their 0-4-0 records are worse because they’ve lost games!”, but this is the wrong mindset to take. No matter how many games you lose, there is no truer loss than to not play at all.

(Detailed 2017 team records can be found in the Stats Archive, and cumulative all-time records can be found in the Brawl Team Stats page of the spreadsheet)

    Referee Stats

This year, we saw Miskey pull ahead as the top ref, while b0squet lost some ground, falling from his first place spot last year. B0squet still holds his title for the most matches reffed overall, but 2017 was a slump for him, coming in only third place. Second place went to Gamren, kicking Winter from her position last year.

Again, I’d like to give a very, very special shoutout to a very special person - DerDieb! Coming in clutch, Dieb took up the call of reffing once more this year to ref two matches!

(More stats like this can actually be found by checking the match history itself (scroll right) on the Brawl Teams Stats Page. The colors correspond to the refs for each match. Additionally, cumulative records for refs can be found in the Archive.)

    Match Per Day Stats

Just like last year, the match per day statistics only counts days when matches are played. There would be no point in counting days without matches as this would just deflate the numbers. In 2017, we had an average of 1.61 matches per day (down 0.28 from last year) and a median of 1 match per day (down 1 from last year). We did reach 7 matches in a day (up 1 from last year), however overall this is decidedly a drop in matches. We had fewer matches overall (124 vs 155). This year, I included a graph for when the matches were played and how many were played each day. It’s difficult to see what is random and what might be a legitimate pattern, but it sure looks cool.

(There aren’t really additional stats for this, but you can check the whole history by scrolling through the match history list in the Archive.)

    Caps per Game Stats

This year, I looked a little further into how many caps the winning team generally had in each game. Right off the bat, it’s easy to see the two huge peaks on 6 and 8 caps per games. These are amplified by games where the winning team gets all of the caps on a map and wins two maps per games. These are often your 3-0 3-0 and 3-0 5-0 games, which add to 6 and 8 - our peaks. Of course, it doesn’t really matter if it was a stomp or not, as these statistics only record the caps of the winning team, not the difference in caps between each team. A more in-depth analysis could be done if I recorded the loser’s caps as well, so I may do this next year!

(There aren’t really additional stats for this, but you can check specific match records by scrolling through the match history list in the Archive.)

    Hana’s Highlights
Fun stats and fun facts! But not too much fun!
    • Best Attitude: TC reached their goal of 100 official matches with a total of 121 officials currently recorded. (This was posted on last year’s thread as a goal)
    • Double or Nothing: this year we had two ties!
    • Red vs. Blue: Blue won 50.8% of matches this year, which is a huge drop from Red’s 62.6% last year.
    • The Audacity to Tilt: TT lost another match this year, bringing them to two total recorded losses, and now a pathetically low Win/Loss Ratio of 21 and Win/Total of 0.933. The next highest Win/Loss goes to DF at 12.5 with a Win/Total of 0.926
    Happy 2018!
That's it for me! Whatever your numbers were last year - whether you were on a team or went 0-0-0, 2018 is a new year, so let's get started!

    Edit:
The Scorch and Galvanize statistics are off due to an error in the sheet. It's been fixed now, check the master sheet for updated statistics, and sorry about that!
