CTF Archer Insta Kill

    Hello, so I've been thinking for a while now. Archers can get pretty annoying with the insta kill, and I was thinking that maybe you should be able to block it like with your shield or something. People can block from assassins, but not everyone does, so this means that not everyone will block, or archers can get them by surprise.
    Archers do sometimes try spawn killing from far away, which means that the person/people die, it gets really annoying.
    Another thing I would like to say is that on what are "archer maps" most people (including me) can't get halfway through the map without getting killed by an archers arrow unless you're using elf.

    Thanks for suffering through my large complain about archers, I know that currently, they are working on elf and pyro, so I was thinking "why not archer too?", that's why I made this, I really hope archer get's worked on.

    Honestly I don't think this would make much of a difference - most of my archer kills come from predicting where someone's going to run and aiming for that spot. Being able to block headshots won't help in that situation unless you've got insane reaction times, and most people aren't going to randomly block as they're running. My advice would be to be more unpredictable when you're moving. Don't just run in a straight line.

    But what about players who don't have Elf, they could buy it on here, but not everyone does that.


    Sometimes people miss, so when you hear the arrow, you can just block or something. Also in the maps that are called "Archer Maps" it would make sense because you can see the archers, that's why a lot of people play elf on those maps.

    Even though you run be unpredictable, it does take down the chance of you getting shot, but you still have around. a 50% chance of getting shot.

    I actually like this idea, although as rhoske said, you would need to have an insane reaction time.
    arrows gets to your face faster than sanic does, and they're hard to spot.

    The idea's cool, but one of the reasons why archer hasn't been getting any changes recently is because at the moment archer is one of the only ways to break a stalemate in competitive matches. Flag carriers already block constantly to avoid dying to assassin so they would likely avoid archer most of the time too. If a player is standing still then they deserve to be punished by archer imo, but a change such as this would incentivise it.

    If they don't have elf, they can simply play another class and try dodging the arrows. Allowing other classes to block arrows would be an indirect nerf to archer.
    I agree. Having a luck factor in competitive matches would be really stupid. For example, you could have an archer and a ninja on recovery but it wouldn't work because the archer's arrow was blocked and would notify the flag carrier to move to a safer place.

    Imo, recovery during stalemates would be much harder if any class would block headshots.

    I guess. Dodging is one way, and I actually took some time to think about your idea and I’m starting to see where you’re coming from. This could be beneficial, but at the same time it couldn’t. Look at what @Keelb00 said for example. I see this being a problem if an archer can’t really have the chance at headshotting a player with the flag, since they most likely will be blocking. Archer is crucial when it comes to recoveries.

    You'd really have to think about competitive and casual gameplay. Just thinking about casual, and I'd love this, however in the competitive seen this would be awful. Recovery on maps like blackout, where stalemates can be extremely long even with the current headshot mechanic, would become borderline impossible. It's a nice thought, but this shouldn't be added. -1

    I personally believe removing Archer's instakill ability would significantly damage the class. I agree snipes can get really annoying and frustrating but to combat this I'd suggest using the map, if possible, to your advantage as well as modifying your movement pattern as suggested above. If you could block arrows and assassinations by blocking, competitive matches that are in a stalemate would be nearly impossible to end which creates a whole new area of frustration. As for "archer map" issues, my only suggestion is possibly talking to map makers about your concerns by commenting in the map section.

    You could implement this idea...
    ...or you could just start using your brain when facing archers. They can't headshot from less than 30 blocks away, and they can't headshot through walls, so I suggest starting to take those 2 factors into account whilst playing CTF.

    I brought it up a while ago, but blocking an archer's instakill would need enough restrictions and parameters so it isn't OP and abusable...
    (for ex: u would need to be looking in the direction of the arrow with maybe a 30 degree cushion and for there to be a cool-down on it)
    ...but if so, I think theres a lot of potential

    i hardly think elf's shield and strafing is enough of a counter, so either buff elf's shield or do something with this tbh (or nerf archer's armor/sword/steak??:shame:)
