[CTF] April Fool's Map Wave

Hello all!

Today, we’re excited to announce our latest CTF Map Wave! In the span of time since we released Wave XIII, we've come to realize an important truth: the community hates any and all new maps. With that in mind, we've decided to remove all of the maps in rotation and replace them with shameless reskins! Under other circumstances, we might have reached out to the community, but as the low count of new map wave submissions demonstrates, you'll probably just shrug and complain about the Elf update anyways. As always, you can continue to submit your maps here - and we'll continue to ignore them.

And now, without further delay, we bring you you the future of CTF!

Spoiler: Beaver Creek

Beaver Creek has been a favorite of the CTF community for years, with the only notable complaint we received being that it was too easy to tell which side you were on. We fixed that.

On the other end of the spectrum, the community's widespread loathing of Blackout is something we couldn't help but notice. Unfortunately, we failed to fix it, but we did try some hallucinogens along the way.

In hopes of driving ikemulti mad if he ever swings by CTF again, we reskinned Canadian Fort to resemble the classic board game 'Candyland.' Unfortunately, plans for a life-sized replica of King Kandy fell through.

Spoiler: Clocktower

Although Clocktower IV had been a staple of CTF for years, we were made aware of a disturbing trend of players attempting to capture the structure in the middle of the map. Seeing as this 'bell tower' was promoting Imperialist tendencies in our playerbase, we came to the conclusion that the only way to handle this situation responsibly was to remove it. Discussions are still ongoing as to whether having separate 'Red' and 'Blue' teams promotes nationalism and/or other ideologies of the bourgeoisie.

Kill Creek IV has fallen out of regular use in official matches, as its difficult-to-reach spawn area allows for long flagholder stalemates. We decided that the best way to combat that was to make it harder to cross the map.

The cold, grey, crumbling bricks of Lowrise point to its creation under an oppressive communist regime. Its dreary night sky reflects the void of opportunity left to those lost souls who wander its premises. To combat this, we have covered Lowrise with the highest concentration of Freedom per Square Inch the world has ever seen.

Mario returns in this ode to The Legend of Zelda, a classic game detailing his grand quest to catch all of Kirby's 7 Evil Exes. Keep an eye out for a guest appearance from Darth Vader, Chancellor of the Klingon High Council from Battlestar Galactica.

When No- er, 'new_instance' brought Whiteout back into rotation, we came to realize that he and the rest of the community valued the original characteristics of that map. Although we are now replacing it with a reskin, we have tried to keep the aesthetics as close as possible to his own creation.

Spoiler: All Other Maps

Although original maps created after 2012 are the spawn of Satan and have largely been banished to the Shadow Realm, we decided to make a few exceptions for those that meet our standards for quality gameplay.

Based on recent surveys, Congeria is the most popular map that @GalaThundR has created for Capture the Flag. We attempted to reach out to him for comment once we decided to include this map in the rotation, but word got out in advance and he appears to have gone into hiding.

We tried really hard to fix Blackout in response to the community's demands for it to be removed entirely. Although our own efforts failed, @DeZilla came up with the brilliant idea to make it as small as possible in hopes that people wouldn't notice that it was still around.

While the maps in CTF's rotation up until this point were terrible, the old Zone Control rotation was a veritable goldmine of unique and fun concepts that no one played! Gala's rework of one of those gems should bring that nostalgic feeling of emptiness right over to CTF!
