I decided to make a thread about how to counter the various classes in CTF. Constructive criticism is welcome.

    FREE CLASSES

Archer: Best thing to do is to attack them from a distance. Use mage, archer, elf, or even engineer. You may not be able to get close to a pro archer to do melee damage; they'll just continuously knock you back. You could sneak up behind one perched up somewhere and knock them down. Be careful when your 20 blocks or more away from them; you'll get headshotted (instakilled).

Heavy: Best thing to do is to instakill it. Use pyro, archer (if it's in a wide open area), or assassin (hopefully it won't be blocking). If you insist on using traditional methods (melee, short ranged attacks) you'll be in for a long battle because of the heavy's really tough armor, the toughest in the game, and the heavy will most likely kill you first. Elves, however, can use their armor piercing arrows to kill it in approx. 2-3 hits.

Medic: Use the strongest classes to kill it. Use heavy, dwarf, assassin, etc. It'll probably take longer than you think to kill it because of it's high healthpool (6 steaks). Pyros beware! This thing is your worst nightmare because it's immune to fire.

Soldier: This class is more of a threat to your flag than you, but iron equipment is still strong. Instakill it with pyro, assassin, or archer. If one is escaping with your flag, use mage to freeze it or elf to bring it to the ground with earth arrows.

    PREMIUM CLASSES

Assassin: Along with ninja, this is one of the easiest classes to kill. It's also one of the deadliest. It's one of the 3 instakill classes along with pyro and archer. Just bash it until it dies. Be careful! If you see one near you, block with you sword (if you have one; if not, then your probably doomed) to prevent it from instakilling you. Once it hits you while your still blocking, immediately hit it back to instakill it.

Chemist: With its wide arsenal of potions, this class can be a tough foe for any class (except dwarf past level 5). Use dwarf or any of the instakill classes, otherwise killing will take a while with its high number of healing and regeneration potions.

Dwarf: At high levels (level 20+) this thing can instakill any class. Attack it from a distance with elf, archer, or mage or instakill it with assassin. If a dwarf is past level 5 it will be immune to fire and potions, so pyro and chemist is a no no. A good dwarf player would probably play in 3rd person (like I do) and will be watching out for assassins. You can use teammates to gang up on a dwarf and overwhelm it.

Elf: The newest class in CTF. Elf is similar to archer in the fact the it primarily uses arrows, except it uses a wider variety of them, and that it can't instakill you. Use archer, elf, or mage as it will most likely be perched high somewhere difficult to reach on foot. Killing shouldn't be too hard as it has weak armor. Beware of its damage arrows because they will pierce your armor and likely kill you in 2-3 hits.

Engineer: My main class until necro gets a rework. Instakill it with archer (assassin's not the best idea unless you don't mind a turret arrow taking you out immediately after you take out the engineer, and the regenerator can douse burning engineers, so pyro is useless), or use a tough class like heavy or chemist. When engaging an engineer in close combat, take out the regenerator first because if you don't it will constantly use the regenerator making it semi-invincible. Take out the turret with necro or engineer on regenerator cake. You think the turret's the engineer's best friend? No, the regenerator is. With the regenerator, the engineer can take on any class.

Mage: Use archer, mage, or elf to attack it from a distance because you probably won't be able to get close to it because of it's damage spell. If you do manage to get close to it, you won't be for long because its lightning spell will knock you back far. It can also freeze you and set you on fire. It can heal it self an endless amount of times but it has a time limit.

Necro: Once a formidable class, now nearly useless due to a nerf a while back. Its zombie minions are hardly a threat because they are so slow, unless your a weak armored class and/or are stuck in a corner or you come across ones with a speed buff. The skeleton minions are a different story as they are all fast and can be faster with a speed buff. Spider minions are just about as deadly as the zombie ones. Necro has rather tough armor and alot of steak (6, as many as medic), so killing it could take a while. Use necro or engineer to take out the spawner.

Ninja: As I stated in assassin, this is one of the easiest classes to kill but that doesn't make it bad. Ninja can be one of the deadliest classes. With its souped up gold sword and invisibility it can be a challenge for any class. Use tough classes like heavy and chemist and instakillers. Be very vigilant when facing a ninja. A pro ninja player will hit you a few times, turn invisible, go behind you, and turn visible and hit you some more, which will likely overwhelm you and kill you. Half the time a ninja will try to steal your flag. Try to inflict as much damage as you can before it teleports away with your flag.

Pyro: Use medic, dwarf, or fight it from a distance with archer, elf, or mage. Be careful when fighting it up close with other classes besides medic and dwarf. If it sets you on fire, you're done for, unless your near a body of water, immediately get in to it. Elf can put out fires with its water arrows.

Fashionista: This is a joke class, and is not suppose to be a threat. It can, however, be a distraction to you with its constant barrage of fireworks. So, don't let it distract you.

some classes have too much counters or get killed to easily

As a necro you'll be targeted by archers assassins pyros ninjas and will not get many kills simply because you played safe. Also did I mention You lose everything once you die. this class is so weak in survival and kills

Necro is my main class And I will stand up for it (Salute to all necros)

a chemist is a challenge to fight for any class save for a level 5+ dwarf
[5:48:04 PM] Aleksander: i STRONGLY disagree with that one
[5:48:23 PM] Aleksander: archer is a really tough class to fight they can easily dispatch chemists at mid range
[5:48:52 PM] Aleksander: dwarves have a huge tactical disadvantage against chemists
[5:49:14 PM] Aleksander: chemists have a huge mobility advantage over dwarves and a vastly superior health pool
[5:49:51 PM] Aleksander: a decent chemist can abuse their mobility to literaly poke at a dwarf over and over and get out of range of their attacks scott free until the dwarf dies
[5:52:05 PM] Aleksander: its even worse if u can force a dwarf into uneven terrain
[5:52:38 PM] Aleksander: deliberatly shove them into terrain or ledges higher up and the height disavantage leaves them nearly helpless

my argument against the notion a dwarf is a hard counter to chemist archer deserves that spot more than dwarf does

@blackfurrykitty, I did say that instakill classes are one of the best ways to kill a chemist (archer being one of them). My personal experience with dwarf was that I was able to best a chemist most of the time. However, most of the time I wasn't the only one in the flag room :stuck_out_tongue:.

actually tbh I can't even really honestly count myself against other chemists so in this post ill exclude myself and 10% of other chemists. Most chemists don't spend the time i do to developed feasible counter strategies against every class in the game. So ill be honest backtrack a bit and say even with your current counter set up u are correct to say moderate to high level dwarves. I don't know very many chemists that know how to work their mobility to the needed extent to counter them

I should've probably put this in the guides section of the CTF forum.

@Nightowl So, if I copied and pasted it over in guides section it won't be considered spam?

Edit: Nevermind. I don't think it will be considered spam.

CTF really needs balancing but that's not the only problem

Seeing a chemist completely go for the flag and not buff his teammates would be watching a medic not heal his teammates in tf2

The classes feel like they should fit there roles

    Ex:

Necro: Support/Offense (doesn't do either well)
    Chemist: (IMO should be) support
