Instant Kills - Why they must be Removed for a Better CTF

    A response to the pro insta arguments:

    1) CTF isn't going to have a popularity boom anytime soon so the loss of players argument is negligible at best.

    2) The argument that instant kills are essential to CTF as a game doesn't even make sense. Instant kills are a custom feature but that doesn't mean that they are needed for teamwork or matches or just to play or whatever.

    3) Current CTF is impossible to play without instant kills, but this thread only suggests that CTF could be revamped so that it is possible to play without instant kills.

    In other words, there has been no actual argument that is either coherent or relevant that refutes the point that if instant kills were removed from CTF the game could, in turn, be balanced out. Fascinating!

    Anyway, I bumped this thread because I wanted to clarify my responses/my arguments from earlier on.

    After an incredibly long time, I finally see a productive discussion without almost any flame or hate. I am impressed and surprised.

    My input on this:

    As an Assassin main, I was always for instakills to be kept. I have read many arguments against and for instakills, and I honestly think that having a way of blocking every kind of instakill would be a possible solution. But, two big problems come up with this solution:

    1) How do you make a way of blocking that doesn't rely on ping?
    This is the question I've run into so many times. I hope and think that shields, which are coming in 1.9, can be a solution for this. Hopefully, once Mojang release the full 1.9 with all the features, we'll be able to continue on this.

    2) How do you teach a new player how to block instakills?
    At the near end of MCPVP, one of the last tries of MCPVP to stay alive was releasing a new gamemode. This gamemode was Siege, which was basically League of Legends in Minecraft. Not gonna lie, that seemed like a really original idea. Sadly, it didn't exactly work out. Anyway, Siege had this "Intro + Tutorial" thing that showed you how to play. You were able to access it at any given time. I think the same kind of concept would work on CTF. This tutorial could show how everything works, and it would show how to block instakills.

    Overall conclusion: I think instakills should be kept, but made harder to perform. The tutorial would work on CTF as of right now as well, and it could solve the current problem of new players getting instakilled and leaving the game with the words "wtF, that guy just one-shotted me. Not gonna play this ever again."

    Believe me I made this thread out of my desperation to impress you Adam.

    Okay, there's a lot of good stuff but why not just rework Assassin? xD

    I mean, you say you're an Assassin main so naturally you're very acquainted with its strengths (sometimes being able to take out half a defense in the flag room) and its weaknesses (very weak in combat after using instant kill/speed) and so you know that the current Assassin is not perfect by any means. Part of the point of removing instant kills is to make things less broken - in general for both the instant kill and non instant kill classes - and this would include fixing Assassin by removing its instant kill and reworking it. @obikenobi21 already came up with a pretty good Assassin rework which I recommend you take a look at if you haven't already. It wouldn't really make Assassin weaker than it currently is (not a weak class but it wouldn't nerf it) by giving it additional capabilities that make up for the lack of an instant kill while balancing out the class on the whole.

    You want instant kills to be harder to preform? That's a perfectly valid opinion. But the way I see it, if you're going to go to all this trouble to make instant kills 'harder to preform' or 'easier to prevent' what's the point to having them around in the first place?

    Nothing prevents those "wtF, that guy just one-shotted me. Not gonna play this ever again." moments by getting rid of one shots entirely.
