To some of CTFers.

Okay. From what I've heard:
Catching hackers (yep)
Being a regular participant in the community and in game (nope)
Being a participant in the CTF team community (nope)
Contributing useful rework ideas to the community (nope)
Making one or more CTF maps (do not have to be accepted into the gamemode) (nope)
All brawl mod requirements (yep)
As you can see, Alg, while being a great guy, falls short in many areas.

Good list, and I'm glad you wrote it without bother. I hope you can learn (and improve) on this Algelier, so that the community can support you! I believe you'll do great, just get involved with the CTF community more and you'll be fine.

(Although, I think the map-making is unnecessary. I initially became war mod without building a war map. I literally cannot see a difference with CTF)

 

If one gets all but one of those categories, then I think they're fine. I know mods judge maps and give feedback, even Jmods, so one should probably build a map before one judges another's map.

Which inactive mods are you referring to? And nobody said we hated him. We just said he was under qualified.

 

I guess I agree with that as well.

Bottom line, I know some agree with this 'promotion', and some don't. However, he shouldn't have to make this thread because players were disrespecting him in-game. Not only does it discourage him, but it gives our community a bad representation.

 

Good point. However, I think a bit of a generalization was made about CTFers based on a few scrubs.
And, frankly, I would've like to have seen him promoted to full mod instead.

 

I was exaggerating. A crowl jewel of satire. The mere fact we have doubt in this new mod seems absurd. If he's gonna be mod on our gamemode then of course he's gonna have to learn the game and community. It's a must. The time for criticism would be if a month has passed and he hasn't done just that.

As for inactive mcpvp mods, I meant how in general they were never really on (Coasted, Saix, Stud etc.). I would consider an active mod to be one that's online around 3-5 times a week minimum. Very few mods met that (Correct me if you think im wrong). Most of them built a map or two and got mod as a result (again correct me if im wrong). Only the players that played a lot to begin with then recently got mod really play the game (Quar, Hana, Cactus, Nom etc.).

Morale of the story: why question him if he hasn't even done anything yet. Start questioning him if he's been mod for a while and never plays the game.

 

Under qualified for what? Its just that a brawler got mod.
Next to none of the mods that got mod were superbly active on forums. They didn't contribute 24/7 to ideas. Quar made a map and just played ctf and was nice, got mod, and did well. Cactus made like 1 thread on yaf. B0s and xelia got it for being nice(xelia ok but b0s wtf??) and they turned out fine. Hana was barely active on forums, and basically started out on em before getting it. Snowtucs had mod for long periods of times when he wasn't even active half the time. Coasted had mod for long periods of times when he wasn't even active half the time. Saixos???? Well saixos is just saixos.
But the point. THEY ALL DID FINE. When hana and Graff got mod, I was like wtf why would you give these randies mod, hana thinks Archer is balanced???? But it turned out fine.

Judge them by their actions, not by 'their credentials'.

Basically I just stated what Leo said without the fluff and got all personal gg.

 

Okay, granted, I was a total randy, but I was active on the forums because of teams. As far as ideas went, I didn't think I was qualified to comment on anything other than Archer stuff (see: randy), but I made pretty match threads, meanie.

I think there is a huge difference between CTF's and our definition of Junior Moderator.

According to Sir_Inge's list, you expect staff members to be active in absolutely all areas, including map making, server ideas and teams.
Our definition of a Junior Moderator is that they enforce the server rules, help players, answer questions and look out of for hackers, so they can record them or report them to a Mod+. Being a part of the community is for sure also important, and that is obviously the point Alg is lacking in. However, due to some players on CTF he was also never granted the chance to become a real part of the community.
Map making and server ideas are not a requirement for Junior Moderator on any of our servers and I don't feel like our staff members are worse because they never created a map, e. g. for Mc-War.

Of course it is better if a player is a part of the CTF community before he is promoted to CTF Moderator, but you do not need to be active for months on a server to simply moderate it. Hacked Clients and the rules are similar on all servers and the basic knowledge you need to answer questions from new players and deal with server specific issues can be learned in a few hours. You do not need indepth knowledge about the classes, their counterparts and the possible ways to nerf/buff them just to moderate the server.

Additionally, I think we have a different point of view on the communities. We tend to see all players together as the Brawl community while CTF, HG and Build apparently see theirself as seperate communities that hardly overlap eachother. Because of our POV all staff members are global and because of CTF's, HG's and Builds POV you propably don't like this system. But it is Brawl's system and we are trying our best to integrate the new servers into this system as smoothly as possible.

To sum it up, in future please be more respectful to any staff member. You can criticize them, question their promotion and dislike them, but do not act disrespectful towards them or insult them.
