The Search for Patient Zero.

@#$%! My Noob squad is down and I am the last surviving member. Zombies have been following me for the last 3 hours. I’m down to 2 clips of ammo for my sniper rifle, 2 grenades, C4 explosives, my plasma sword, and 3 clips for my side arm. I cut down an alleyway after seeing 30-50 Zee’s (Zombies) stumbling my way along the boardwalk. Prior to starting this mission I memorized all the streets in the metro area. I knew this was my last and best chance. Having Hyper Intelligence and Telekinesis have been a blessing and a curse throughout my life.

The President of the United States lost contact with 5 elite teams of super heroes who entered the hot zone to stop the raging zombie infection. Yeah, there goes Santa Cruz. I aim and let off 3 quick headshots, taking down the 3 Zee’s in front of me. My 1911 .45 has seen a lot of action this mission. I holster it as I sprint down the alleyway. @#$%! @#$%! @#$%! I turn around to face the staggering Zee’s entering the alley.

I say a little prayer, in case the almighty is listening. I doubt he is taking requests from The Evil Overlord. With my luck the other guy is probably licking his chops to get his grip on my soul. I chuckle. Hope the Devil has room for another dark soul, there might not be enough room for the both of us down there.

If I’m going down, I’m taking as many of these freaks with me. Working quickly I run toward the Zee’s and place my C4. I back pedal back to my corner. I lob my last 2 nades. The nades explode taking a bunch or Zee’s with them. I quickly pry open a manhole cover off the ground. I use all my super strength to fling it straight into the mass of Zee’s barring down in my direction. A hoard of Zee’s are instantly decapitated.

Putting my rifle down, I pop open my victory Cuban cigar that the President gave me and with quick precise movements I light it up. The President was strongly against me using my Super Villain teammates on this mission to find Patient Zero, the first patient to get infected in the United States with the Zee virus. I ended up with a Marine detachment to help search for Patient Zero as well as keep an eye on me. These guys were not prepared for this type of fight. I lost 2/3 of them in the first 2 hours. This team was not prepared for the challenges we faced and we did not find Patient Zero. The first mission I have ever failed.

@#$%! This isn’t a Cuba cigar, it’s from Honduras. I power up my plasma sword, the red blade fires up and the sound of electric energy crackles at each movement, my own version of a lightsaber, my own creation. I take a couple of deep breaths and psyche myself up, I am going down swinging. The irony of my situation is not lost on me, I will make my stand in a similar fashion as the 300 Spartans during the battle of Thermopylae. The walls of the alleyway force my enemy into a narrow passage where their numbers work against them.

At the top of my lungs I yell “This is Sparta!” and rush into the crowd of Zee’s. My plasma sword has a 3 hour charge. After that I am screwed. I separate arms legs, and bodies. My devastating effects create a little pile of body parts that slow the Zee hoard down.

Just then……I hear the sound of 3 Black Hawk helicopters. Before running down through Santa Cruz, I popped my emergency beacon to notify my “friends” that I was in danger. The city was quarantined and no one was allowed in or out. If anyone would come to my aid it would be these guys. All of them are Super Villains…..they aren’t exactly guys who take no for an answer. My kind of scum.

The battle has just begun. I’ve never failed at anything in my life. After all I am The Evil Overlord and failure is not an option when the fate of the planet is left hanging in the balance. Besides the pardon the President promised me I am thinking about all the innocent people who could die a miserable death. I will not fail. I will not let this infection over run the state and spread.

I back into the alley way, click the sound button on my gauntlet, my custom tech powers up all the Tv’s and radios in the 5 block radius to maximum volume and I hear AC/DC on all the electronic equipment in the city of Santa Cruz as they light up and crank out “BACK IN BLACK”. I cue the explosions I left around town……my friends are here, time to even the score. This isn’t over by a long shot.
