Idea Fixing Map Flaws

    Brawl's getting a build team together and when the build team is finished, I think it'll be the perfect time to fix some of the maps flaws. Some of them are very easy to fix and wouldn't take any more than 10 minutes, and some may take a bit longer - perhaps complete reworks of the maps - to fix.

    However, improving the quality of maps will help tremendously with gameplay. I'd much rather have 10 good maps than 20 decent maps, so I think fixing the problems with maps is a lot more important than spending a lot of time on a new map wave. Also, it'll help make sure that maps that, although have problems, CTFers generally like (such as Blackout) don't get removed.

    Here's all of the issues with all the maps in my opinion, if you're going to leave feedback please don't leave it about what I think the issues with maps are, but instead of getting the build team to improve the maps.

    Arena*
    • Possible to glitch to the flags and cap
    • Archer is too powerful as there's not a lot of coverage
    • Too small and flat
    Aquafus IV
    • Laggy due to a lot of water
    • Easy to spawn-camp as archer
    Beaver Creek I

    Already a remade version of this map in the rotation

    Blackout

    • High walls make soldier OP
    • Lack of cover in some areas causes archer to be OP
    • Not the most aesthetically pleasing map, could be improved (patterns in the walls, for exmaple)
    Canadian Fort

    There's another, improved version of this map which is better in almost every aspect. I wouldn't mind seeing this map removed, as long as Canadian Fort I is kept.

    Canadian Fort I
    • No underground tunnels, so crossing the river is hard with archers - most of the time, I rely on luck to avoid getting sniped
    • Spawn is quite close to the flag-room
    Castle Cavern IV
    • Map is too small, so capping is easy
    • Archer dominates mid most of the time
    Castle Wars IV
    • Flag-room can be sniped
    • Hardly any archer coverage
    • One of the blandest maps ever made
    • Spawn is too close to flag-room
    Citadel I
    • Flagroom is soldier OP - high walls
    • You can get through most of the map just with sponges, the ones crossing the river aren't needed
    Clocktower IV
    • Soldier dominates outside, as does archer
    • Its hard to escape the flagroom if there's a pyro or multiple ninjas
    Desert Strike III
    • Not that much coverage, so archer is OP here
    • Walls on the side look bland
    • Isn't really a 'desert'
    Discovery
    • Archer is somewhat powerful here
    Dragon Valley I

    No issues, in my opinion

    Forest of Rivals
    • Not the most aesthetically pleasing map
    Giant Chests I

    No issues, in my opinion

    Halo V
    • Doesn't look like the original Halo map
    • Archer is powerful
    • Small flagroom
    Islands**
    • Archer is very OP as no coverage
    • Hard to get across the map without having to swim
    • Map is too small
    Kill Creek IV
    • Small flagroom
    Kingdom Islands I
    • Archer is very powerful
    • Perhaps too much water in the flagroom
    Kingdom Islands II

    Kingdom Islands I is much better than this version, as this has all of the first's problems and more (not aesthetically pleasing, laggy).

    Large Hall
    • Looks bland
    Lowrise
    • Also looks bland
    Medieval Siege
    • Archer is OP here
    • Its hard to get out of the flagroom as any class other than soldier (or elf)
    Night Raid
    • Lack of cover makes archer OP
    Norse Dominion I
    • Flagroom is small, and you can drop right into it
    Opposites Collide

    Another map is in the rotation that's improved this, and this is quite outdated. Should be removed, as long as Opposites Collide V stays.

    Opposites Collide V
    • Still not easy to get from the top to the bottom of the map
    • Flagroom is somewhat hard to get out of
    Pavo's Academy (Academy I)

    No issues, in my opinion

    Platforms I
    • Lack of archer coverage
    River Crossing
    • Archer's OP
    Serpent's Lair IV
    • Engineer's even more powerful than usual, as the map is quite thin
    • Archer's OP
    Ship Battle
    • Soldier's OP due to masts
    • Archer's OP as there's almost no coverage
    • You can snipe the flag room
    • Engineer turrets can be placed on the ship
    • You can cross almost all of the map with just sponges
    Skyworlds I
    • Archer's OP
    Standoff II
    • Looks extremely outdated
    • Hard to get down from the flagroom unless you're soldier
    Valley of Ruin IV
    • Archer's too powerful
    Walrus Creek
    • Bases look very blocky
    • Archer is still OP
    • Never thought the snow looked good in this type of map
    Whiteout (Blackout V)

    I think Blackout is better than this, simply because its more original and this doesn't fix Blackout's issues that well. However, since this is the most up-to-date version, it wouldn't be that bad if it replaced Blackout completely. Issues here are the same as the issues for the original Blackout.

    Woodcastle Arena

    No issues, in my opinion

    *Included Arena as its played a lot by mods
    **We were promised Islands was going to return a while back on McPvP, as a contest was held and the winners chose Islands to return, so I included this too as I'd like to see it return

    Thanks for making this list - I agree with a lot of the flaws you've listed on the map. Some of the issues, though, may be more class related than map related (lookin' at you, archer and soldier).

    the reason there is a lot of water in the flagroom is because we got rid of the horizontal sponges, so it takes a long time to cross the map, so we didnt want to make it so a pyro could just dominate the flagroom
    I do agree its hard to defend, but the map is large so its also hard to cross with the flag as you can get destroyed by recoverers
    so getting rid of the water, or reducing it would probably make it way harder to cap

    I personally dont really have problems with archers, as the bridge or sides arent really killstreakfarms anymore ,there are a lot more trees and they are low, they are kinda far away from eachother but we didnt really wanna make soldier that powerfull by placing more trees
    there are also more entrances to the part under the bridge and flagroom to make it less campable for archers

    IMO archer is powerfull on almost every map and will always be a problem for builders

    also, add that citadel, whiteout and both canadian forts have lagproblems, which is a turnoff for me and probably more people

    For people who don't know all the maps, go here for a list of them all, along with pictures and McBuild map IDs.

    Yeah, archer is mostly a class issue, although in a lot of maps I don't think soldier's that powerful. Maybe because I main soldier and suck at soldier, but oh well.

    Also, is Islands ever gonna get remade and added?

    The Islands remake Saixos made for the competition winners is done and looks awesome, but I don't think it'd do well in rotation. Perhaps it'll be saved for an event map.
