What are your opinion on stats? Do they ruin the game for you and others? Are they a motive for you to play?

For me stats are cool and I don't personally see any issue with them, but I play for fun ^-^

Stats are for the hardcore players. So they worry about their kdr more now. If you mess it up, they get ticked off xD

I think that stats are sooooo false. They show 0 skill of a player. Total caps means nothing. Those caps could've been on an empty server. K/D? That means they could main pyro and randomkill. You need to see a player in game to truly measure skill. Do they play their class effectively? Do they play their objective well? Do they handle tense scenarios well? Do they understand how to:
    Capture
    Distract in a flagroom
Bypass a multi-pyro defense using teamwork
    Block for a capper?
    Effectively defend a capper
    Defend
Stay out of other defender's way
    Use their class when appropriate
Recover if the flag was stolen

Etc, etc. Theese are things that cannot be measured by stats, and these are the things that matter most.

You can only judge whether the player is good by knowing what their playing in the game. Offense is bound to get lots of deaths, just flag defending is normally more kills, and recovery is in between. I wouldn't use KDR as a way of deciding whether a player is experienced or not. I use KDR relative to the amount of recoveries or caps to see if they're experienced or not.
Examples are: 200 deaths, 50 kills and 90 caps means a good offensive player, 50 deaths, 200 kills, and 30 recoveries means a good defensive player, and 100 kills and 100 deaths and 30 recoveries means a good recoverer.

Those stats can easily be duplicated on empty servers. Because CTF is so teamwork centered, stats are meaningless.

They give me motivation to play, I love seeing my stats change actually. I wish they had the specific stats for each kit like they did on McPvP, even better!

I know you like stats Cliff :stuck_out_tongue:.

Since I'm bad at PvP, I really don't care about kills, deaths, K/D, e.t.c. The stats for captures just shows that I'm practicing :stuck_out_tongue: I just have fun!

Stats are useless to gameplay but if people like 'em then screw it, what do I care?

I don't get why people think stats ruin the game. If you don't like them, then just don't look at your stats page. If you are indifferent, when what does it matter? I think stats are a cool addition for the people who like them, and so while I don't play to have the best stats, I'm fine with their existence.

Any sort of stats that aren't based off the elo rating system (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system) are objectively inaccurate in terms of predicting a player's skill level. The elo rating system (which works based on who wins, causing the loser to lose elo points and the victor to gain elo points) works best in 1v1 games and begins to lack more and more accuracy as more players are added to a game, more so, especially, if the players they are playing with are random people as opposed to teammates who they are acquainted and work better with. Any sort of stats, such as KDR, killstreaks, and etc. are very inaccurate, especially if the game in question is not balanced in any sort of matchmaking based on elo (as in, teams with equal elo values face off against one another). Seeing how matches are currently made in MCCTF, with teams of about 35v35 facing off against each other with random players making up both teams that are not balanced based on elo, any sort of stats that are currently being used to determine one's skill are objectively horribly inaccurate. The only stats that should be considered relevant in MCCTF, in its current state, is play time and games played, and only to note one's experience playing the game and not the skill they possess in the game. Without any sort of elo system, MCCTF stats are nothing more than something that you can rub your epeen to for being so good at playing in lobbies filled with people of low skill level. All in all, the old and current MCCTF stat system is a bunch of egotistical bull**** that serves to show nothing more than the dedication of a few ****wads who seek to come off as "skilled" in a stat system that doesn't even attempt to calculate their true skill.

CTF doesn't use the ELO system.
It's actually the CPU calculating all player's kills, deaths, k/d, divide kills and deaths, captures and recoverings and organized in a manner so that it's from ascending order. Quite simple actually.

BTW, it's not matchmaking and it's not badlion and it's not csgo.

I think of stats as if they're an addition to the game. Which in reality, they really are indeed that. I don't focus on stats, but it's nice to have them if I want to look at my overall progress in CTF. The game functioned perfectly before stats were added, and it will continue to function the same way. The only way that stats "affect" the game is by the players' mentality. Like I said, I don't focus on my stats but there are players that do. Players will either play more conservatively to preserve their K/D ratio, or play more aggressively to get more overall kills. Whether they decide to go the extra mile and be unsportsmanlike in the process depends on them. And with that being said, caring about stats isn't a bad thing at all, even if that's the reason you keep yourself ingame. The only time I'd consider it a bad thing is when some players go that "extra mile" in caring too much.

P.S. Stats in CTF don't tell you your skill, but they do indeed tell you how much time you've put into this game. Like @Webmant said, ELO based games are true indicators of skill assuming players aren't cheating. (At least, in my opinion)

In other words, stats make overly competitive people to keep playing as archer and assassin and pyro, abuse those classes to get kills and up the leaderboards and uhhhh... nvm.

Pretty much just a waste to look at. In my opinion, someone's stats can be improved very easily within ctf (aka farm). Don't be cocky and feel like you're "on top the world" since your stats are "ok". Prove it by showing that you're worthy to be called "pro" in matches that gives you a challenge for whatever role you main.
