    Because 1.9 removes blocking, adds shields in its place, adds a hit rate limit to attacks, splits left/right click actions between two in-game hand with separate items...
    Plugins can work around a good deal of this, but it still stands that it is visibly different on the client in large ways.
    This isn't like ~1.6-1.7 or ~1.7-1.8 where so long as the world and blocks were only the old items, you could connect without much of any issues through protocol hacks. There's large changes to core mechanics, here.

    I wouldn't worry about it so soon. 1.9 will likely come to ctf in 2018. Remember that :smile:

    I agree with 99% of what you are saying, except for the ninja capping will be encouraged....is that really a good thing?

    I was trying to encompass everyone's opinions (even some randee's opinions :O). I in no way encourage Ninja Capping, unless its to either end a ****ty game quickly or as a last resort.

    Well, we can. But it requires extra work. Because currently most classes use the default combat system (aka swordfighting). But the combat update makes a huge change to swordfighting and makes getting kills slower, which is a serious problem recovering/capturing. It's a problem making compatible with 1.9 because of technical reasons (one really big one is that they removed blocking using swords). While it's possible to make a 1.9 mod which simulates 1.8 combat, some things will have to change (like assassin and ninja to keep them viable)

    I think you mean "to keep them balanced" (or at least, keep them from getting worse).
    If blocking was just straight up removed, and that didn't blow up the plugin (it probably would) then Assassin would have no counter. That wouldn't be un-viable, that'd be completely overpowered.

    Many of the problems brought by 1.9 are actually rather easy to circumvent through workarounds. Cooldowns can be removed and blocking can be simulated, but Id rather see the game incorporate 1.9 mechanics into the game.

    DPS is a very crucial part of making a class viable in many video games, timings can be adjusted and can be made relatively fast paced while still adding some differences (Id want to see the sword cooldown halved at the least). It could balance the game between Pingers and Laggers as well as allow a new level of game balancing that could add a new realm of skill.

    Knowing how CTF does with balancing and change, it's not something I expect.

    Assassin needs a rework before 1.9 is permanent. What's after 1.9? 2.0? MINECRAFT 2?!?!?!?!!!!!!?! Or it's just 1.9.2.3.83.735 and so on.

    Yeah, sorry about that mistake. I meant to keep ninja viable and to keep assassin balanced.
