    Nope. What's the point of playing one class if its just as good as every other one?

    [BTW this is talking about balancing CTF, other gamemodes don't seem to really apply to the topic]

    different classes are good for different things surely, an archer who was balanced to take on a heavy, or a ninja with the same armour as a soldier would make any change in class purely cosmetic, and therefore relatively pointless. Obviously if one class can dominate all other classes then balancing is in order but otherwise just use on class to counter another

    Anyway, if you want a gamemode where the aim is pure skill then try Brawl PVP

    I dunno why so many people insist on making ctf "skill-based", seeing how it's impossible. The object of the game is to capture the flag (I know it's obvious, but a multitude of individuals seem to forget that). The goal is not to run around pvping, although pvp is a big part of the game; pvp is a subset of the more important objective. The game is even more rewarding to players who play objectivly. If you want pvp on even terms, play on the kit-pvp server.

    Tl;Dr balance is impossible due to the variety in classes. The game is more enjoyable when played objectivly.

    I don't have an opinion on whether it's fun or not just for the fact that with ctf we will never experience a balanced game. Perfect imbalance is what should be aimed for in my opinion. This can be done by constantly introducing new concepts/tweaks that go against the current meta.

    balanced is more fun because if and when this game ever gets balanced archer hopefully wont instakill and the game is so much more fun when i cant be killed uncontrollably

    If complete balance was even remotely possible, I don't think it would be very "fun". Sure, it may be more enjoyable in a sense that certain people won't be complaining all game about broken classes and stupid mechanics, but the broken classes and mechanics (some more than others) are what make the game "fun" for me. First off, I main archer. I am very well aware that headshots aren't as difficult as they should be, but consistently being able to headshot people with decent accuracy is "fun" for me. The same can be said for assassins; the instakill mechanic isn't totally balanced, but for those who play assassin, its the thrill of the high risk/high reward situations that are "fun". Some players find it "fun" to medic team and troll around the map because they find it hilarious, while others absolutely despise medic teaming. This game will never be fun in every given scenario for every player because there is more than one opinion of "fun", and not all ends of the spectrum can be satisfied at once.

    Absolute balance is not fun. You want absolute balance? Okay, everyone has a Diamond Sword and Armour. While the equalized experience isn't always a bad thing, it can become stale in a game like CTF.

    However, overall balance is important. It doesn't have to be too exact: After all, it is a team game. Even though one class may be more powerful than the other, they still serve an important role in the game and you will still need people to play them to succeed.

    Balance shouldn't be made to make sure every class is just as effective in all the same areas. However, it should make sure that there is no class that can do everything, or is ridiculously good at their one thing, and that there is no class that can do nothing. Pre-patch Chemist is an example. An extremely powerful capper that could also support, tank, and PvP. Another example is the current Necro. It doesn't really serve a specific purpose. Anything it could do could be done better by another class.

    When you balance a game, you want to make sure every player will be useful, no matter who they play. You may say that the Soldier player was the most important in one match as they captured the flag and won the game. However, they couldn't have done it without the Medic. Even though some players may be a little more advantaged than others, everyone's still a part of the complex machine that is a CTF team.
