Mage is actually a really good class for Support Recovery Defense and Capping.. Support at best and Recovery at word.

Maybe mage could have a cast time for certain spells. The damage spell would be pretty much what it is now with an instant cast but spells like lightning or freeze would require 1-3 second casting time. The mage would be unable to move during the cast or the casting is canceled.

This would leave mages vulnerable to attacks and players could get near them. This would also encourage strategic spell usage and not "use every spell at once then run"

Also, reduce all knockback from hoes. Nothing is more annoying than finally getting close to the mage and it punches you away.

But you appreciate that's it's near impossible to kill with default classes and that a majority of mages are disgusting randy scrubs?

Edit: I also disagree with your statement completely, for the reasons stated in the OP.

I played a little bit of mage today, and I only got 5 kills over a span of 15 minutes ;-;. Mage is pretty annoying, but still pretty weak imo. It's nowhere near as good at getting kills as archer or heavy.

Firstly, maybe if you spent less time playing super defensive using only your bow as an archer, you'd have more of an ability to deal with mages....

Secondly, I don't particularly like mage, but equally the skill cap is pretty high to use it well. I'd like it's infinite health removed, as that combined with it's knockback can be a real pain. I wouldn't want it nerfing very heavily at all, it's not game breaking.

    Oh, and spawncampers are annoying

A few weeks ago I went on a capping spree with mage for a day and was able to cap once on half of the maps in rotation with a solid enemy defense. In matches a few mages have frozen or lightning-ed me in and to difficult positions which normally end up in the other team recovering, unless I'm lucky. Giving heavy antikb to any projectiles would be far more over powered than what mage is right now, anyways it's hard to find mages that are difficult to kill. I think the speed from chemist helps out a lot and is a much safer fix than giving heavy that buff. Just comparing, a good heavy on defense is far more powerful than a good mage. You should probably get at least 1 game with mage before judging it entirely, it's not exactly the easiest class to play if you don't have the most on point timing, which not too many people have.

I agree to the knockback issue to some degree. I believe that the knockback dished out by archers and mages should be non-existant.

On a different matter, mages can cap, believe it or not. Of course, the one who did it was @linkcookie , but that's besides the point. Mages can push the game along in their own unique and rage inducing way. Soldiers cap, archers headshot, mages make midfield a firey pit of hell and despair for all those daring enough get within a 15 block radius.

Tl;dr Mages gonna mage, life goes on, and ctf should still be an illegal, addictive drug.

we agree on one thing here. Mage is definetly not easy to play.

i'll agree that you need more "skill" to be good at mage than most other classes, but you really don't need much at all to be an annoying damage spamming prick.

Nice reference to Samuel Jackson xD, also there are a crap tonne of randy mages idd and they do spam, in contrary to most of the regular mages. I agree with the thread though and I only hope mage gets nerfed instead of creating counters.

But if heavy doesnt have any knockback what is mage´s lightning good for then? Its what mages save from getting hitted with knocking them back

Tbh I like the lightning spell way more than the damage one. Damage spell is better for squishier classes, while lightning does some nice true damage to heavies, dwarfs, medics, and soldiers. And throw a bit of flame spell into there too just to piss off a chemist having to waste 30 seconds of fire resist while you smack them in the back with your ranged diamond sword. And whenever they try to run, freeze em and repeat till and assassin comes along and destroys you.

Just gonna throw this here. Most of you are looking at the wrong thing. It's not mage, it's not the spells, and it's definitely not the knockback. (Engineer got it's knockback "removed" and it's still annoying.)
The thing's that actually upsets people about mage is that they can walk backwards and "combo" from it. In all honesty I would say mages shouldn't be able to walk backward at all. No other class even has to consider something counter intuitive like that. But the most reasonable nerf would be to make it so that mage can only walk backward with a significant decrease in mobility.

The Justification for this is simple: Walking Backward as a mage shows that you are not trying to achieve an objective (save for a recovery situation in which the target is behind the mage), and are instead focusing on "grinding" out a player. Walking backwards decreases dps and accuracy as the target becomes smaller, but is still an effective decision because everything else in ctf is melee or like archer has to slow way the **** down in order to fire. Mage shouldn't be allowed to take advantage of what is basically a rule of ctf.

I main mage, I know its weaknesses more then most.

Many if not all mages go into a keyhole phase when attacked by an enemy which means that they only focus on that enemy, leaving them vulnerable from the left right and back. Ninjas, chemists, assassins, archers, heavies can easily take out mages. Mage cant block assassins and archers headshot. Chemists, heavies, and ninjas dps beats mages hps.

Mages can be outsmarted and cornered while ninjas can just enderpearl to the mage to avoid spells and constantly pound the mage with its sword.

Mage is severely annoying and op if you dont know what you are doing, but I cannot tell you how many pro ninjas beat the crap out of me

Its just the point people complain about a class cause they die to it a ton without putting any thought into anything. Just go in blindly

Learn its weaknesses and then destroy them with their weaknesses. The best mages can use their weaknesses as a strength.
