Recently, there has been lots of discussion over Jay's idea of having a CTF Smod. Personally, I like this idea a lot. However, one main concern keeps on coming up, "Who would be the Smod?" Many of these CTF mods are definitely fit for the title, sustaining good activity and being very helpful (stuff that mods should do). To give just one of these mods the Smod rank would be unfair, but we can't give them all the rank either. So, how about we get some opinions floating around.

How should a CTF Smod be chosen?

@Canoodle's skills as public relations manager and head of staff will put her in a good position to choose the right person for the job opening at the company and will be the best fit for a bright future.

It's one of those things that we don't need, but it would be beneficial to have (we don't need our phones and computers to get by, but they make our lives easier and more enjoyable)

Why would it be beneficial though? What could an SMOD do that ctf mods can't?

Like @Unifier said. An SMOD could provide some needed leadership to the committee; a democracy is nice, all fair and equal, but it's not efficient. An SMOD wouldn't necessarily change what happens, rather how fast it happens. @gamren (sorry I've been tagging you a lot bro xP, I feel like your take on this situation explains it better than mine).

I see this being turned into a popularity contest. What more could someone of SMod status contribute?

Having an smod is just gonna divide the staff. It's going to create an issue on the fact that one single staff member having the final say because they are a rank above the rest, mostly making other staff's opinions useless if the SMod disagrees. IMO the staff are working well together without needing an SMod, having one would just cause more problems than fix them

That's the thing though, isn't it? It requires elevating one MOD (or JMOD) over everyone else based on what @Canoodle thinks of their supposed "leadership" capabilities. The last time we had an SMOD (@Nohox ) it created unnecessary friction within the staff team (as mentioned in Quarrelt's outro and others) and Nohox didn't want the promotion anyway.

You keep saying that an SMOD would change how fast something happens. That's bogus. A dedicated, qualified, coder (@NomNuggetNom ) would change how fast something happens. We don't need an SMOD, they're just going to push their agenda and create friction. We need more transparency with changes discussed by the staff team and a coder to implement them.

What is the point in making a thread when 3 other threads about the same topic have been created in the past week?

I've been trying to stay away personally from commenting, but I feel it's about time I do. The communication, from what I've witnessed (which hasn't been much since I was only promoted on Christmas night), is very slow and disoarganized from the committee. Keep in mind that this is personal views. A lot of people already know what happened with the reffing incident that that occured with BK and TC due to lack of communication. On top of that, over 2 months ago I made some requests for MSW to be made more official, and still have had little to no feedback. I currently think that the communication could be better, as there are other things and incidents that could be worked on in a faster and better overall pace. I could easily be wrong when it comes to what I'm saying, as it seems that the pace is being picked up recently, but I personally think an smod to direct the CTF committee and keep them on track would be beneficial to the ability to focus on certain problems and handle them much faster.

It already has turned into a popularity contest. An SMOD needs to be the most qualified moderator, not the most popular.

I'd assume people want somebody to organize the CTF staff team. Improve communication, efficiency, etc..

An SMOD oversees the actions of the moderators on their designated server and makes sure staff members are communicating. They also have a few extra in-game and forum permissions.

Okay, I see what you're saying; it makes sense, I can't argue with that because I wasn't there. Of course, I could argue that someone pushing their ideas with authority would get things done faster , since there's not going to be much in the way of debating. But, in the end, it's not really the SMOD who decides what changes, it's (mostly) the player community. It's rather likely that, especially now that we are demanding the mods give us their ideas before they implement them, which they've become much better at, an SMOD wouldn't simply be able to push their own agenda.

The orginal idea for an SMOD was doomed to fail because, like you said, Nohox didn't even want the job. With THAT being said, us arguing about this is pointless, because canoodle decides who gets SMOD, and we can't decide for our mods if they want the position or not. Us voting for SMODS won't change anything, us arguing won't change anything.

Tl;dr arguing is pointless, you're less wrong than I am.

Clearly, people think its a "popularity" contest. Erase that from your mind. Many people have justified their answers with proof. Overall, if we were to get an SMOD, the clear option would be @b0squet . As many have said, he is probably the most involved MOD, and the most active, also a mod that tends to be veryvery involved in reffing and stuff like that. To a certain point, it may be popularity. But other than that, people keep saying "It would be unfair to name just one mod to smod." No it wouldn't. Because you can clearly tell the difference between mods. You can tell through how active they are and stuff like that. We don't need an SMOD, but if we were to get an SMOD, that person ( @b0squet ) would be able to lead the committee into being more involved. Staff relations with the community isn't as high as it once was.
