The title pretty much explains the thread. I think chemist's kit simply offers it too much, with no visible weak spot. Let's run down what it has.

    1. Damage potions: These things offer a heck of a lot to chemist. They do damage (albeit not really a major amount), but the best thing these things do is apply knockback. They can be used to engage, disengage, steal a flag, and generally are really good all-purpose pots.

    2. Poison Potions: These things provide a slow and dot damage applied in an aoe.

    3. Health Potions: Heal chemist for 7 hearts. Chemist has 5 of these, making its healing pool the highest out of any class without counting regeneration.

    4. Regeneration Potions: Regenerates chemist for 16 seconds (idk actual numbers of hearts regened but pretty darn high).

    5. Slowness Potions: Apply's a slow in an aoe radius.

    6. Fire Resist Potions: Basically an anti-slow, as all they do is counter the slowing and burning effect of pyro (and I guess mage but f0k mage).

    7. Strength and Speed Potions: You know what these do.

Chemists sword is iron, which is the 3rd best sword in the game I think (not counting dwarf upgrades). Add this to strength and chemist does a crap-ton of damage.
    Chemists armor is complete crap.

That's basically everything chemist does. I think that's way too much. For one thing, chemist has 3 ranged cc abilties (knockback from damage pots, slowness from poison pots, and slowness from slow pots). That's tied with mage (fire, freeze, lightning), and mage is a ranged only class with worse armor.

In addition to all of this, chemist has an extremely large healthpool. I hear a lot of people say that chemist is fine, heck ninja 3 shots it. That doesn't mean crap when one health pot negates 2/3 of those shots, and then chemist 3 shots ninja in return, 2 if used with a damage pot ( I think). Add this to its regen, and chemist is a solo flag-carrying machine. Once it's out it can regen out flag poison as well as fall damage, straight up tank damage with its heal pots, and peel for itself with damage/poison/slow pots. On top of all that, it has a base speed buff, making classes with speed the only thing that can catch up to it (obviously ignoring crap like terrain and shortcuts).

So, chemist can cap really well because of all that, it can defend really well, it's good at regular pvp, it can tank, support, deal damage; the only thing it really can't do is kill people from 30 blocks.

    Thoughts?

Chemist does have quite a bit going for it, and is incredibly powerful when used in the right hands. Imo it's fine, seeing how it has bad armor. Bad armor justifies other classes as well, such engineer. It can warp it's entire team almost anywhere, has a cake that gives better regen than a medic, and that stupid turret... (also telecapping) The entire class is hindered, to an extent, by bad armor.

At least it doesn't have 10 HEALTH POTS anymore :grinning:

I think chemist would be balanced if pyro was a stronger class but, similar to heavy, there is a lack of counters to it currently. I dont think nerfing chemist's damage is necessary, but there needs to be other ways of killing it that dont involve a buffed heavy or a swarm of ninjas. Skill also plays a major part, making it a hard class to balance.

Personally I think chemist is underpowered as a solo class, but extremely broken in a team sense. The difference between a team with buffs/chemist support and one without is huge. One class shouldn't be able to make that large of a gap. You run out of mana very quickly when fighting multiple players, but none of that matters when your team can beat the other team because you right clicked them at spawn 2 minutes ago.

I have to agree with you on this @obikenobi21 xD I still remember when chemist had strength and speed II :3 (those were fun days for chemists :stuck_out_tongue:) Some argue that chemist is countered by heavy and pyro, and I also agree to a good extent c: but if a chemist is a really good pvper then it is a counter o.o)

From my thoughts, I think chemist should be more focused on support; I don't know to whom I could give credit for this idea since I read it a while ago in MCPVP forums. I don't remember the idea too well so its description will probably not be too great cx /w\ I shall try my best though!

The idea stated that instead of buffs through potions, chemist could provide teammates and themselves with speed and strength when the chemist was within a certain radius of their teammates. If the chemist left their teammates, they would have the positive effects for 1:00 minute, this being speed, fire resistance, and strength. For combat the chemist would still have damage and poison, but no buffs unless of course he/she still had lingering affects from the support radius!

I know its incomplete but something along the lines of that sort would be really cool c: I think ^-^ *sorry this was so long ;u; Thank you for taking the time to read this, even if you just read one line* xD :cat:

This also reflects my feelings on what medic can do quite accurately.

imo chemist is fine right now with ninja sharp 5 and buffed heavy to kill it. If heavy gets nerf tho, then chemist must also be nerf. But we don't really need another nerf train tho so I'd say keep it the same

Chemist is only a good class when you know how to use it. If you can't keep an eye on your heart, the second you get to three hearts and a ninja hits you, you're dead. Just find out and time the pots, specially with the "mana" thing/xp bar, it's more of a difficult class to play. It's honestly fine in my opinion.

I agree Miskey. Teamwork is broken. In fact, teamwork is broken we should nerf it. Lets nerf it so hard that no one can ever teamwork again. In fact, while we're at it let's abolish the red and blue teams and turn all the CTF maps into great big bouncy castles of fun, fluff, and love. That way no one dies and everybody has lots of fun, fun, fun!!! Just think of how balanced that would be!

Chemist does not need a nerf, and btw, the slowness pots dont even slow they give mining fatigue and weakness :stuck_out_tongue:
Most of the times when you heal you dont heal for 7 hearts cause in order to do that you have to throw them straight up in the air and wait for it to hit you on the head and who tf does that in a fight.
Chemist has taken a lot of hits lately with all the nerfs and honestly its a little bit underpowered but if used in the right hands its ok, but thats how it is for every class, soldier used in the right hands make it a good class, pyro too, medic etc.

take strength off of the speed/str potion, would fix the whole 'buffed heavy to overpowered' thing and would at least nerf chemists melee damage, kinda annoying when you get 2 shot as a ninja without no time to react, does way to much damage to weak armoured classes too, although its own armor is trash

    just imo anyway

Chemist is fine, a ninja can easily recover from a chemist unless it gets a medic. Like @Gowrbehmunk said, you rarely get the 7 hearts.
