At the moment, if you autoban and appealed, you'll almost always get unbanned as soon as a staff member sees the appeal. A lot of the time, players literally just ask a staff member to unban them and they'll do it without having to appeal, which isn't allowed but happens either way. However, some players won't be able to get in contact with a staff member to ask them to see an appeal, so will have to wait a few hours for the appeal to be looked at.

To change this, some changes to appealing autobans should be added. If the player has just been autobanned and appeals, they get automatically unbanned unless they have 10+ autobans in the last 3 months. This shouldn't be an issue, since at the moment a player will get unbanned as soon as a staff member sees the appeal, so this would just speed up the process. The only time an appeal for an autoban should ever be denied is if someone has many recent autobans, but even then I never saw it happen before.

If this is too much, then instead there should be a new way to appeal autobans, so staff members get notified whenever someone appeals. When you appeal, a new type of appeal should be added, called "autoban". When someone submits this type of appeal, a message would be posted in a new channel in staff chat, so any mod online can see this and unban them. (This is possible, for JMods or players who won't know, mods get PMs in staff chat automatically when someone appeals their ban).

tl;dr: appeals for autobans should be accepted automatically, unless they have a bunch of autobans recently.

Not a bad suggestion - just throwing it out there, isn't 10+ in 3months rather excessive? I'd prefer to see 5+ auto bans in 3 months call for more serious consideration.

Perhaps. The exact details don't need to stay, I think 10+ in 3 months is fine though.

If the autoban system works so badly, why even have it in the first place?

    It catches many, many hackers.

Because its better than the horrible ones like NoCheatPlus, which doesn't work at all and effects legit players all the time too. The autoban detects at least 30-40 hackers for every legit player, from my experience.

Instead of having them appeal their first few bans, have it as an auto ban within the book. Meaning, put the autoban in the ban list, but don't actually ban the person for it.

    Thoughts?

If a new player came on and hacked, and ended up getting autobanned, with my suggestion they'd have to appeal to get unbanned. They almost definitely wouldn't know it would get accepted automatically, and likely wouldn't bother appealing (from experience, autobans don't get appealed very often from hackers). However, if your suggestion takes place, the hacker would take a lot longer to be banned.

Or give moderators a longer chance to ban the hacker.

Maybe it could be like mcpvp's autoban system. Builds on and on with time?

I used to see this suggestion literally all the time when McPvP merged, I don't know why Brawl doesn't do it yet. I would quite like to see this happen, but bringing it back up will probably be as successful as me making a thread asking for wool back on CTF. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Perhaps the auto-ban system could also give a warning message similar to /report to all online members of staff? Give online staff the chance to make the judgement on a player...

That would spam the staff members chat.

Normally I'd make a rude joke about Brawl's player count, but at the moment (thanks to @chickenputty's changes) this is a serious issue :grinning:

Would rather just improve the autoban system first, so reach and speed/jump hacks can be more easily detected, although it is a very good idea my suggestion to how many recent autobans should be more of the likes of 5+/month

Possibly so, although this could easily be tweaked so that it will only give a notification on X amount of (what would have been) autobans. It would just be similar to the current /report system however, the server would be reporting possible hackers as well as the players.

Yeah, this would be nice. I posted a thread in the staff forums about it; ThaRedstoner said it was possible to do but it was never added while I was still staff.
A lot of the time, there's a mod online invisible on KitPvP who is literally just there to ban any hackers that appear. I did this a lot, and found players on other servers got autobanned without getting /reported (if it wasn't for me going after another hacker while this happened, I wouldn't have even known that hacker was online). For staff members who are doing that, it would be useful so they don't have to spend so much time just doing nothing, waiting for a hacker to appear. Making it toggleable (ThaRedstoner said this shouldn't be too hard, too) would remove this issue.
Unfortunately, if Brawl could "just improve the autoban system," it would've happened by now. Custom made autobans aren't very easy to make unless you've got the same amount of admins as Brawl has staff members (Hypixel) and the dev who made the autoban system doesn't seem to be very active. However, no matter what, players will still get falsely autobanned so allowing players who did get falsely autobanned to return quickly would be ideal.
