The Official 2018 MCCTF Teams Tournament


Hello, and Happy New Year's to all! We're starting 2018 off with a bang with this year's MCCTF Teams tournament! Starting this February, CTF's official teams are going to be competing for the tournament championship and Chalice of Eternal Glory! In a setting ripe for intense competition, who will emerge victorious?

When?
The group stage of the tournament will begin this February, and run for 1 month, with an additional ½ a month allotted for makeup games if necessary. The playoffs, including the finals, will then last another month. On the whole, the tournament may take to up 2.5 months, although it could potentially end sooner (beginning of February - early/mid April).


How does it work?
The format for the group stage is designed to fit 10 teams, although this can be tweaked if one or more teams does not enter. There will be 2 conferences consisting of 5 teams each. Each team will face the other teams in their conference once, for a total of 4 matches per team. Matches in the group stage will be played in a best of 3 format. The conferences that the teams will be part of are listed below:



After the group stage pans out, your team’s standings within your conference will determine whether or not you make the playoffs. Each win grants a team 2 points within a conference, with ties granting 1 point and losses granting none. The teams that conclude the group stage with the most points will advance to the playoffs. The number 1 seed in each conference will get a bye in the first round of the playoffs, while the 2nd and 3rd place teams also advance from the conference. The 4th and 5th place teams in each conference will be eliminated. Should 2 teams within a group end up tied on points, the primary tiebreaker will be the result of the head-to-head matchup between those teams, followed by the number of map wins.


As stated earlier, in the playoffs, the top seed in each conference (listed as #1 below) will get a bye to the next round. The 2nd seed from each conference will play the 3rd seed from the other conference, and the winner of that match will go on to face the #1 seed (of the 2nd seed's conference) in the conference finals. The winners of each conference's finals will then advance to the tournament finals.

Following a change in the tournament's rules, all playoff matches will be best of 3.


Rules
Standardized rules will be in play during the tournament, with slight exceptions to adjust for team comfort. There will be a standard roster size set, which can be changed only if both teams can agree. With size has its own specific set of rules, with the default size being 8v8. These rules cannot be altered, with only the roster sizes being up for debate/agreement between teams.​

8v8 (Default)​

• MMR
• 1 Ninja cap per map, no ghosting
• 1 pyro/mage/archer/assassin
• 2 Medic
• 3 Heavy

10v10​

• MMR
• 1 Ninja cap per map, no ghosting
• 1 pyro/archer/assassin
• 2 Medic/Mage
• Max 4 of other classes not restricted at a time.

12v12​

• MMR
• 1 Ninja cap per map, no ghosting
• 1 pyro/archer/assassin
• 2 Medic/Mage
• Max 4 of other classes not restricted at a time

7v7​

• MMR
• 1 Ninja cap per map, no ghosting
• 1 pyro/mage/archer/assassin/medic
• 2 Heavy
• 3 Soldier

Additional Information
Teams with 18 or more players will automatically be signed up for the tournament, while teams with less than 18 will be required to contact us (the CTF committee) to sign up. Signups will end on January 7th at 11:59 PM EST (January 8th at 4:59 AM GMT), with groups being announced the following day. We encourage all teams to participate.

I will set up a bracket once we know the teams, and depending on how much time there is left/mood of the teams we can run one. Will have a more official reply once we know teams involved.

Quick Update - DF has now signed up, meaning that all 12 teams are now locked in. Groups will be announced on January 8th.

Good luck to all teams, and reminder that games are open to start at the beginning of February, with your 2 group stage matches supposed to be finished before March (excluding tie breakers).

Note - Matches will be treated and count as officials, but should be titled as [Tournament] for the tag. You can still continue to schedule and have official/unofficial/etc matches, but I urge you to prioritize your tournament matches.
