Idea Pyro Frenzy Change

    Relating specifically to pyro's ability to recover in a stalemate, I feel like frenzy is incredibly hard to get. Sure it's easy enough in regular CTF to run up to the nearest archer and hit them four times but in a match chances are the only classes that are midfielding are ninjas and mages etc. ,so it can be really frustrating to play pyro on recov as every time you die you have to wait to build up frenzy again.

    Not sure if that makes much sense, but what I am trying to say is that another recovery class such as assassin or archer has all the tools available upon spawn; they only have to get to the other side of the map and kill the flag carrier. Pyro, on the other hand, needs to fight the closest enemy (usually difficult unless you land a lucky flint) before it even has a chance at recovery. Because of this an ability which is a really cool stalemate breaker often lies underutilised.

    One solution I thought up was to add a cooldown to the frenzy- say for example the pyro will get frenzy after 40s, with each hit with the axe reducing the cooldown by 10s, meaning that in the flagroom the pyro shouldn't be getting frenzy much faster or slower, but it has a chance at recovery without having to go against an enemy. I'd be thinking the cooldown would start again if the pyro respawned and couldn't be healed by a medic- so respawn abusing wouldn't be too big of a problem.

    I'm hoping a change like this wouldn't be too much considering the impending pyro buff, but I feel like the current mechanic is awkward to work around outside of the flagroom in its current state. Nobody wants to see a second assassin, but it would be cool if a pyro could use its main ability without doing the thing it least wants to do.

    Any feedback and/or suggestions would be much appreciated :smile:

    I understand your concerns for pyro in matches, but an issue of nerfing/buffing this would be the question of: “would this help balance all of the classes in CTF?”

    In my opinion, no. A change to pyro seems neat, but it wouldn’t balance the game.

    I think the planned change of a pyro armor buff will increase the pyros survivability and in turn its likelihood to get frenzy.

    I generally play defensive in matches as pyro until I have frenzy and then cross the map. It gives my flag carrier more support and I get better chances at recovery because I don't need to give myself away by hitting players on the way over.

    Being forced to play pyro by TBF (I cry every time) in matches recorvering with frenzy can be difficult if the recov isn't coordinated. Really as miskey said, the frenzy problem would be solved by increasing a pyro's survivability. (Aka the armor buff) this is an interesting idea, but it really isn't necessary for pyro atm. If for some reason the armor buff doesn't fix the issue, this idea could be revisited.

    I do see pyro as recovery similiar to a high risk - high reward class comparable to assassin. Its not rly made for single recovery as it is targetted down rly fast so its all about distraction and allow the pyro to get the jump on the flag carrier and frenzy him aswell as u try to get the jump on them by assassinating them in the right moment. So in regards to that pyro especially as recovery needs some support to be effective.

    Yes, ''tis why I said if the recovery is coordinated, a pyro has a chance. You're absolutely right, pyro has a very small chance or recovering by itself without support.

    Thanks for the feedback and some very valid points made. I definitely agree that the armour buff should help a pyro out a lot in this matter, hopefully making pyro recov significantly more viable :smile:

    Frenzy needs a damage buff, pyro needs an armour buff and a mobility buff.
    Not necessary all at once but fairly sure 1st and 3rd combined would make a good class in the current meta.

    All these buffs yet it's limited to 1 per team in matches - for a reason... pyro is OP!
    What about pyro (and archer, assassin, etc) in casual games? Kinda hinting toward a minor buff for all other classes - would certainly be a nice little surprise. Could even help form a fresh new meta for teams and players to test and progress. @b0squet ;D
