What'd be the best way to contact old WarZ players to do this? I don't think tagging people on the forums will get the word out as much as I'd like.

This isn't going to happen, Sig hasn't been on the forums since this thread was posted and they're working on Fortnite ****. WarZ has been being played on a different server by old community members because Brawl doesn't have a sufficient staff team or protocol to actually handle the server properly. However, the new server is handled much worse, so if you guys actually want the WarZ player base to migrate back to Brawl you're going to have to do a couple things, and I'm being completely serious about this.

    1. Give WarZ server specific staff (staff only on WarZ) to capable members of the WarZ COMMUNITY, nobody from other servers. People that have played the game mode for a long time and are mature enough to handle the position. On the new server, 1dalt0n was a great staff member who actually knew how to handle chat and ban cheaters. I was staff there myself for around a day before I got abuse demoted by the owner, Milkmaid, who is also a known DDoSer (only reason he's owner is because he bought the server off of a previous owner, nobody wants him in that position that's why we're trying to migrate). Tl;Dr, loosen your restrictions on staff applicants for WarZ specifically because if you want people to play you need experienced players in it, trust me. I've dealt with this server since around 2012/2013.

    2. Host events COMMONLY. The new server we played on had events which got 30 unique players on at times. Part of the reason WarZ died was because of lack of update and lack of management, including events. When Sn4x5 hosted events in the past while he was still Mod, the server got a ton of players. This needs to be a common thing, weekly at the very least.

    3. Keep the guns the way they are. No nerfing anything, no nerfing combos, everything is fine the way it is.

    4. Screenshare protocol. I don't care what your view on this is, the only way the WarZ community can be dealt with efficiently is with a screen share protocol, such as using cheatsmasher while in a Discord call. From my personal experience, along with Dalton's, the MAJORITY of cheaters in the WarZ community use ghost clients that can only be detected by cheatsmasher, and even a simple screen share in discord gets people banned for X-Ray. The amount of times we found people like Travis and other players X-Raying while screensharing that otherwise wouldn't have gotten them banned was insane. If this isn't added, nobody is coming back. I'm speaking for everybody (every legitimate player anyways) in the community.

Believe me when I say, the majority of us want to come back to Brawl's WarZ because the guns are so much better than on the other server's. But if these things aren't added, every single one of them, we're just going to end up making our own WarZ server again which will take the profits that could otherwise be given to this server. Us that play are in contact with many old community members, such as on Discord, Snapchat, etc. We'd easily be able to get old players back into it if you guys fix the **** that's been plaguing the server since it began.

Doubt they'll accept me again, but I'd be down to be a WarZ-only staff member.

I've been trying to get restrictions on staff applications as a whole loosened - we've only got a handful of staff now and many aren't active anymore, so getting more staff is very important right now. The problem is, we very rarely get applications anymore - only 7 in the 2019 so far (excluding the SNN's). Out of that 7, 2 are fairly inexperienced and 1 is very immature and toxic, even by WarZ's standards, and has an extensive history of hacking. Only 1 of them were for WarZ.

I definitely think we need to loosen restrictions - @CoCaptainBlue and @PingSpoofingBBH shouldn't have been denied and should have been given a chance at trial JMod, but neither of those are applying for WarZ. Without anyone applying, we can't accept them.

What do you think is stopping people from wanting to apply, and how do you think we can fix this? A simple solution would be encouraging people to apply - I encouraged one of the current applicants to apply and intend to do this more often, but I don't know WarZ players well enough to do this.

In the past we've tried doing events to revive gamemodes with low playercounts (weekly HG events, WFS) and they did well for the first 10 or so events, but then started to lose more and more players. I'm all for doing more events, especially if WarZ players are more likely to attend them weekly.

How often did @Sn4x5 host events, and over what timespan? Did players keep coming back and playing? What kind of events was he doing?

    Agreed.

Have we done any gun changes semi-recently that have been unpopular? I wasn't following WarZ very closely until we lost our last WarZ staff member. If there have been any, let me know and I'll try and get them reverted.

What's to say people won't start using ghost client hacks that cheatsmasher is unable to detect as soon as we start screensharing and using that tool?

I'm absolutely down to feedback on all of this - I'm going to take responsibility for WarZ now that we lost our last WarZ staff member and I know less about the gamemode than most, so I'm all ears (hence why the majority of this post is questions).

Also, if you could get me in direct contact with people who are very knowledgeable about WarZ and are willing to discuss this sensibly (i.e, the way you're doing it, rather than a couple of opinions and 90% insult), that would be very helpful.

People aren't applying for WarZ because nobody plays it on Brawl anymore. As of right now, from what I've seen and from my experience, the only people capable and mature enough to handle staff on WarZ is Dalton, NMH, and myself (which was fine because the server got around 30 max either way, it was enough + the admins). If people migrate back to WarZ's Brawl should the changes I listed be implemented, I can assure you WarZ would get a lot more applications. You could encourage people you think would be fit for staff to apply as well, I remember back in 2014 the only reason I applied was because MrDasky, ChickenNinja and Celx told me to and I got accepted, so it does help.
Sn4x5 didn't host events often, probably a few times a month with Cuddled, but they were large scale events such as Hide and Seek, Kill a certain target with a team defending them, etc. On the new server, the events that were held basically just gave everybody loot and the last team standing won, which was fun. As long as people get loot in events, people will get on.
Any gun changes that were made from this thread should be reverted if they were kept since that testing update. Other than that I don't believe there's anything that needs to be changed.
Cheatsmasher has been around on other servers for a very long time, servers far more popular than Brawl. An example of a server that worked very well while using this was HCF, there have been no bypasses to it over the years of its existence. If someone does somehow develop a program that bypasses it, which is highly unlikely as of now, the only way other people would get access to it is if they bought it from that player in particular because nobody that smart would give that client away for free. Even if multiple people got this client and cheatsmasher was rendered useless, a simple screen share is primarily used to catch X-Rayers, which is nearly impossible if not impossible to catch otherwise.

You can say give it to someone, but there isn't anyone to give it too. As much as you request something, it can't be given to you if there are no resources there. No one plays WarZ on Brawl because no one pays attention to it, besides @SoCool21, I had people tell me that they were scared of moderating a ****ing server. At the end of the day, it's not just staff's fault but a very large part of the community. It's been years since the game has been released yet the whole community still act like straight kids bro. That's not something someone can change in a day, and even over time it's the same thing. Yet there is still no incentive to play this game because no one seems interested in playing. No one was banning cheaters, no one was putting in the effort, so why are people gonna keep playing?

Hosting events isn't just HOSTING events. There is so much when it comes to hosting events that goes unseen but people still ask for them. Yeah host some events, but people don't ever say what the **** they wanna play. It's always the same events because no one wants to contribute with ideas. And some of the ideas that are given, you can't do. Trust me, I've tried a lot of different types of events and at the end of the day, there weren't as good as originally thought. Besides that, let me also touch upon the fact that WarZ was, still, and won't ever be managed right without an actual SMod. There is just such a need for it, because you can do as much as you want, but you are always going to be limited without one. You can do so much as a mod yes, and that's been the same thing that has always been told to me, that you don't need an SMod. But that's some bull**** if you ask me, I got the WarZ SMod rank for the last couple of days and the whole server was lit because I was able to access the event commands, for a simple act of giving people some stuff and giving them a tp, about 40 to 50 players joined and the whole server was done fine. People who hacked were also banned on spot.
At the end of the day, you'll get told it's an invasion of privacy, and Putty has publicly said he won't settle for an SS protocol, nothing you can do there unless you change the mans mind.

"No one plays WarZ on Brawl because no one pays attention to it" which is why I suggested giving WarZ staff to actual WarZ players who apply instead of randoms from other servers that don't know what they're doing. Anybody scared of moderating a server shouldn't be staff in the first place. I agree it's partly the community's fault that the server died, but if staff were able to handle the community (mostly protocol's fault that they weren't able to do so efficiently) things wouldn't have turned so sour. We're all playing on another server right now and things are fine, other than an abusive owner which is why we're either migrating here if things change or we make our own server again with better management. Nobody's saying the community can change in a day, or even months, what I'm saying is that if the server had more staff (aka loosening restrictions and giving it to experienced/mature people no matter of their past history) the community would be significantly better because the rule breakers would actually be dealt with. People who log on alts after breaking rules and continue to break rules on that alt should not be tolerated. The protocol needs to be MUCH stricter if WarZ is to be run efficiently.

From my experience, nobody cares what event is hosted as long as people get loot. I agree WarZ would need an SMOD if it's to be run well, but from what SoCool said it seems he's taking that position, although that's not the best idea. WarZ needs to be run by somebody who actually knows the server well and has experience with it, but with the way the staff system is set up right now (the higher ups being too stubborn/cautious to promote people), that can't be accomplished.
From what I understand the reason he doesn't want it is because the EULA is against screensharing and Brawl has gotten in trouble with that multiple times. But if he doesn't add it there's really no issue lol, we'll just make our own server again and the profits (5k made in a week off of the server we were playing on recently) will go towards that instead of Brawl.

I agree that we should just reach out to some old players and try to encourage them to become a staff member, straight up handpicking them. That being said, it's hard enough for me to convince higher-ups to loosen restrictions on applicants, let alone handpick people who aren't active anymore. I definitely think that's the best solution, but I don't think it's a solution I'm able to get put in place. I will try, but I think it's unlikely I'll be able to get anything changed about that.

Assuming I'm unable to get that changed, what alternative solutions would you suggest? I'm already going to start encouraging as many people as possible to apply for staff (across Brawl as a whole), but in order for me to get someone on the staff team they'd have to be active. Are there any players knowledgable about WarZ who are active at the moment who you'd recommend?

Another thing we can do is use the staff team who aren't server-specific to WarZ to help moderate, until we get more WarZ applicants. I'll do what I can to make some sort of resource to help staff members unfamiliar with WarZ moderate it effectively, but that would only work based on the assumption that I can moderate WarZ properly effective - given how unfamiliar I am with the community itself, it'd be naive for me to make that assumption. Any suggestions on that front?

I'll pass all this on to the event manager. When I work on helping WarZ make a comeback, frequent events (large events monthly minimum) will happen, if I get my say. Open to any and all feedback on the specifics.

I don't know if those gun changes are still in the game. I've reached out to someone who might, and if they are still in the game I will do what I can to get them reverted.

I'm going to have to look into this further. That being said, the primary reason why we don't screenshare is privacy/security. A staff member could use this to trick users unfamiliar with screensharing to install malicious programs onto their PC, something which has been abused on less reputable servers with screenshare protocols. However, if it looks like Cheatsmasher could be an effective way to catch ghost client hackers, I think it would be worth trialling it and seeing how it goes.

Brawl's Discord if anyone still uses it or is on it? and People do still lurk forums so tagging would work... Players still talk to one another so the word would get out.

imo all warz needs to come back is staff that are willing to quickly add suggestions (without hosting polls that take 2 months) and fixed loot tables that dont spawn in useless **** and ppl will definitely play more considering bootleg warz got like 25 players before it went to ****

Working on doing this. I've already got all the recent gun changes reverted. Very soon I'm going to be looking into getting a screenshare protocol implemented exclusively for WarZ and I'm going to be launching a WarZ feedback group - a group of community members who'll be directly speaking with higher-ups and any WarZ staff we get in the future regarding updates with WarZ. After that, I'll be looking into if any additional monetisation can be added (which'll allow us to hire more devs, so more updates for WarZ), and then the focus will be advertising.

Not many people use it anymore, especially WarZ players, but there may be some people still in there who can be reached. I'm thinking the best way of doing this would be through word-of-mouth, and adding some sort of referral system so players get in-game benefits for getting older players to return. The tricky part will be getting that system as alt-proof as possible, but if that can be done I think this'll be the best solution.

ok that sounds good tbh i just think the idea of great devs needing to be hired (what other ppl say not necessarily u) is ill advised considering there were a bunch of trash/inexperienced devs on the bootleg warz that were able to make that server a better experience than brawls warz. off the top of my head here were some of the changes:

-3 second grapple timer instead of 5
    -grapples work every time
-10 second fall damage removal after grapple is used (sounds like a long time but it made fighting a LOT easier and less frustrating
-removal/inactivation of boost pads (they actually couldnt fully remove them bc the coders were bad but i mean when they were disabled but still in the game it was kinda interesting to see how they were used since u could use them to build staircases and block off certain areas of the map)
-regular events that were very simple and just focused on ffa fighting (aka tp everyone to a certain spot and give a 30 second countdown to turning pvp off). these had a lot of problems considering u could just log out with the diamond and come back in on another account lol but could be avoided by just adding a whitelist that only lets one account per ip log in (yes vpns would bypass this but it would stop most ppl)
-changing loot tables so useless items didnt spawn like hatchets, water bottles, pepsi (also taking out the thirst concept in general), ladders (were kept in the bootleg warz loot but still very useless), infection cures (taking out zombies was also done which made the server 100x better), and taking out other stuff i cant think of off the top of my head. basically all this did was make it way more likely that you could get tier 4 guns, ammo, and diamond armor which made looting MUCH more tolerable and a LOT of people stay
-adding a simple, easy to learn practice server much like m4play that literally was essentially just getting a kit and spawning into a warp where ur put in a small-ish area with all the other players on the server. u could actually get better by playing this server unlike a lot of other practice servers that have been made for warz
-incentivizing content creators and by extension legit players (giving ppl the YT rank which gave mvp perks if u regularly made videos about the server)

    now the negatives:
-dumbass staff that could literally take total control of the server in a day and have to be reverted by someone with access to console (this was really fun to watch as a spectator but basically killed the server)
-way too much diamond at low level places. i think having the amount of diamond there was could be ok (basically all fights guaranteed to have everyone diamond) if those fights took place at high lvl places but the server devolved into certain devs just giving their team diamond which could be avoided. basically all the fights ended up being at gas
    -whitenames couldnt tp
-hackers could get unbanned ridiculously easy/hackers ran rampant with basically no anticheat

    my suggestions:
-add the airdrop feature back. these were actually so much fun and a great way to get fights going
-add all the other things that made bootleg warz good
-adjust loot tables to give high chance of diamond/guns at zone 6 places (not ridiculously high but higher than they are now)
-give whitenames a 10 minute tp timer
-add a practice server only for new players so they could actually improve as well as a video tutorial explaining the basics of how to ACTUALLY play
-fully ditch zombie idea and just make it a team pvp server for gods sake it is so much better than way. if new players could learn how to play like the good warz players (comboing, etc.) the server would be much better off
-i probably have more ill keep responding to this as they come to me

    final thoughts:
warz died because new players couldnt have fun because they got instantly clapped by old players but when those old players left due to the reasons old players leave in ALL games, newer players didnt replace them due to them getting clapped and quitting so the server gradually died. if we can make the server a more enjoyable experience for new players while retaining all the parts of it that old players liked the server would probably grow again (not to the same levels but at least to 50 players daily id imagine)

Agreed. There are people from our community (or other servers) that we could hire and we have actively passed up, and it makes absolutely no sense in my opinion. If there is someone willing to help us out and they can be trusted to not abuse the authority they have as dev, we should absolutely bring them on.

Some of these I agree with (especially grapples working every time, that should just be common sense IMO) but I'll have to see if the community as a whole agrees with you first. I know you mentioned no polling before but I'll try and make sure it doesn't take months and months, hopefully just a week or so.

I'll see how easy it is for redslime to change grapples and if we're able to do it without any problems, I'll get a community consensus and change grapples as people see fit. Boost pads also seem like they were fairly controversial, we've already held polls on that so I'll check the old results and get it changed accordingly.

Agreed. There's not much point in hosting events right now because no-one plays anymore and we still need to make/revert more changes for WarZ to be at a standard people expect, but as soon as players begin to return I'll make sure a wide range of events are hosted as frequently as people want them to be.

Makes sense, I'll try and get a hold of the loot tables and edit them.

Seems pretty easy to do. I'll look into getting this done.

Incentives for making content is something I'm hoping to be implementing across Brawl globally. I'll definitely be pushing for this.

I have seen this in the past and I definitely think this is problematic. I don't want to name names but I think the whole WarZ 2.0 fiasco could've been avoided if it weren't for this issue. There is only a limited amount of things I can do to prevent this from happening and it isn't happening now, but if it happens again I'll think of new ways to prevent this.

Are low level places less fun to play at? I feel as if an increased variety of places for fights to take place is a benefit, as long as all places are fun to fight at. Staff abuse obviously isn't okay and if that genuinely was happening, I'll try and get better auditing implemented so it's easy to identify if staff are abusing and giving their teammates items for no reason.

AFAIK this was fixed in the last update, but the cooldown is pretty long.

We've implemented a new anticheat now so there should be less blatant hackers, but xray will still be an issue. I'm looking into implementing a screenshare protocol exclusively for WarZ to fix this. I agree that hackers are able to get unbanned way too easily if as long as they haven't been permbanned, I will be trying to get this fixed globally.

Don't see why not. If the old code is still working I'll try and get this implemented.

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm currently quite busy with an IRL project so I can't dedicate that much time to Brawl right now, but as soon as I can, WarZ will be my biggest priority.

I haven't thought this through that much but what if all players had to go through the practice server until they learned the basics? Like, it wouldn't let you join the main WarZ server until either you played enough time or performed some task that signified completion of the tutorial or whatever.

Your mentioning of "new players only" is a good idea imo because it gives new players a place to play w/out getting stomped by better players. the noob-only practice server would partially improve the insanely steep learning curve that plagued warz 1.0

I mean yes I support you I hardly see staff on the network I usually encounter @scapezar, @Charlie_0014, @Prouddyyy you Tom. I sometimes see @Eil and @Nohox from time to time but I appreciate the support... Also I did think the person that was applying for the position in Raid should have been accepted he had a really good application...

The main problem with having a new players only practice server would be alts. We could always make it possible to skip the practice section (with some command not advertised to new players, so only experienced players would know about it and would do it). However, people could still maliciously use alts on the new player practice server. It could be made punishable (including punishments on their main account), but it would be tricky to enforce.

Also, there may not be enough new players online at all times of the day for there to be any other players online, so they wouldn't be able to progress to the main gamemode.

I like the general idea, but I can't think of good enough ways to mitigate those flaws.
