    Hello guys!!

After the Q&A Stream, I have thought about a solution that could encourage new players to stay for a more regular time on CTF. There is the book that is explaining the game and how to play it, but I think it could be nice if CTF could offer more than that for new players.

My suggestion is that CTF could implement a new system for the new players. The Staff could have a dedicated team of people who will help out new players. That could be in a discord group or something like that, and also on casual CTF. That team could regroup some Staff members, but also some regular players if needed. The objective of that team would be to answer the questions of the new players, giving them input to understand more CTF, giving them some advices so they could try to be better at the game. I really think that the new players will feel like someone is really there to help them and I do believe that it will make them staying on CTF in a more regular time.

I would like to add that, in my opinion, a dedicated team like that and a discord group like that might help CTF teams to have new players and might revive the team scene.

That being said, I still think the book is a good way to help new players, but like I said I do think it is not enough. The book will still be there to help those players, but a small text could be add when a player first join the server a few times (or even a permanent tip as well), with a discord link or a link to a thread, plus the name of the Staff members/regular players that they refer. The important is that it will be promoted on their screen.

For now it’s only an idea and if you guys have any questions about this, make sure to leave a comment; any thoughts about this are welcome!

I love this! Unlike tutorial ideas that have been suggested in the past, being a new player doesn't mean you need to get help learning things. I never had someone tell me how to play, I just learned by reading forum posts and watching what other people did. At the same time, when my little brother tries to play, he's very bad, and I think he needs someone to help him learn everything. So some players will need this, and it's important to offer help without requiring it (like in a tutorial).
Please do the second of these two if this is implemented. I have always liked to help people who ask questions or want to know more about the game. I like telling newer players to block, or that archers have instakill, or that you should kill ninjas quickly before they damage you too much.

But I'm also not on staff, and I'm not really sure if I will ever apply. I think this should be a separate application, and that anyone and everyone who wants to help (maybe besides staff) has to make an application to be a part of this group. I don't think the mindset should be "staff and a few non-staff players," but rather "anyone who wants to help, but staff doesn't have to apply because we trust them already."

    +1 :grinning:

Just have an option to turn it off. If it shows up in chat, include in the line under it, "If you would like to stop seeing this notification, type /[whatever]".
That way, no one can complain that it keeps showing up.
However, I think that some people will ignore it; I often don't read chat if I'm too focused on something or I'm distracted.
Maybe the first time they log on, have the book automatically open, but every time after that, they don't have to read it?

Yeah it's a good idea to make it permanent, but to also make players able to remove it.

i believe that automatic titles should appear whenever a specific death or objective requirement is needed. example - if a new player gets assassinated, they get an automatic title message when they respawn saying "block your sword against assassins!" or "avoid archer's arrows!" you could put some extra info on them but they should be short and sweet and get right to the point. have a command that disables these messages for people that don't want them.

for objective requirements if a player holds a flag and stands next to theirs while it's been stolen, they'll get a constant actionbar title exclaiming that they're flag needs to be recovered. this message will stay there within a 1 block radius of the flag. should be applied to everyone regardless if they're new or not.

most new players wont ask for help in chat and will just get frustrated that they seemingly die randomly with no reason as to why. having new players understanding depend almost entirely on other players to explain how these mechanics work is bad design.

I think player retention is definitely something that needs to be addressed. I like all the ideas you proposed and agree that the "How to Play CTF" book is a great resource, but more can be done to try to keep players coming back to CTF. As the recent Q&A said, CTF has a large learning curve and it is a gamemode that requires a lot of time to understand how everything comes together.

This is a great suggestion. I think this could help newer players get quick answers to questions they may have and increase their interest in CTF as a whole. If this were to be implemented, I do not think it should be limited to just staff members. I can think of plenty of knowledgeable, friendly, and motivated players who would enjoy helping newer players.

@GalaThundR's suggestions could also provide newer players with a chance to get a better understanding of the game, and I also agree that new players could be easily frustrated if they do not understand how they are dying or how to steal/recover/capture the flag, which is why it may be beneficial to provide as many resources as possible to them like this.

i don't see why not – tbh it should be every player's priority to always help the newer players bc that's what'll keep this game alive, but everyone's different with how they interact with players and the game and their mindfulness in respect to both. But if a group of players want to organize this to emphasize and encourage such help, i think that's really really cool! Whether these players should have an ingame staff-like rank/tag on CTF like [Helper] for example would have to be talked about with staff and higher ups, not that u implied it, just that it could make sense. I'll definitely be bringing this up either way, if it doesn't already get mentioned. Tbh tho, a clear recognition and differentiation among the player base esp if with a rank/tag could definitely incentivize players to do the right thing, but it could potentially also decentivize others into caring less since they're "not the ones to help" kind of thing---when in the end all players could be doing this whether in a recognized group or not, and/or hopefully everyone would eventually join the wave by joining the group. Either way tho, groups and teamwork are great especially with the direction of a clear good cause, so easy +1 for it all

EDIT: tbh tbh, i think there should be a new tag purchasebale by credits to help recognize this group and cause, while if u think u have the drive to help the playerbase so much, u can and should also just apply as staff

Thank you so much, it's really appreciated!!
For sure a rank/tag could help the new players to recognize people that are in the 'helper group', but yeah I understand that it is needed to be discussed with the Staff.

There will always have some players who are caring less about helping, the important is that at least some players are there to help people in need!

Yaaa I think that CTF coaching should definitely be implemented ~ would help new players know how to play strategically and improve at the game which is always welcome. Aside from new players that are immature/inappropriate, I think this would provide a really good opportunity to learn more about CTF. If this was implemented I would definitely want to help coach others too c: and i think this would revive the team scene in that more people would feel interested to join + have a higher skill level to effectively play their role(s) in matches! A CTF helper thingy discord would also be good since many people use Discord it would be convenient to coach others from there + add different channels for different types of help (eg. In-game coaching, strategies, techniques, etc.) Definite +1 from me. This is an excellent idea and definitely should be implemented!!

A helper would be good to recognise those in the community who wish to reach out to the player base in another way despite being staff, and this could help distinguish who has real staff potential should a helper choose to apy in the future. Either way, as @dQdx_dPdy mentioned, it should have it's own separate application format and maybe the helpers' IGNs would be mentioned and listed on a separate forum thread in the CTF category.

Mmm what if you made it as an unofficial team/squad so that the application process could be handled through that?

Having specific tags or an MCPVP-like clan feature unique to just CTF (like with War for example) could definitely help and hopefully could eventually be added in the soon(tm) future x d

@Dragoarg7 @Cardona360 and I created a squad for the new players and we also created a discord server with a lot of informations about CTF and teams.

The link of the thread is here:

If anyone see a new player on CTF that is interested to learn more about the game, it would be nice to give them a link of the thread!

Wishful thinking given dev time but I'd rather see a CTF hub where you can practice classes, e.g. with a villager 30 blocks away that you can headshot, or a fiery tunnel that you can only walk through as medic.
