So jeb_ recently posted an experimental snapshot concerning combat on the Minecraft subreddit. I'm just curious what everyone thinks of these combat changes.

Glad they are doing something about it. Not really an expert on these things but I just know that 1.9 is terrible for combat. Glad most servers still uses the 1.7 or .1.8 combat features.

as some1 also mentioned in that thread, i dont like the "hold down" to attack option... hardly any different than clicking once a second. It just makes playing the game soo much less engaging and interactive and removes an aspect of PvP (physically clicking at least at medium speed) that we have all grown to like and perfect or at least have become accustomed to.

to be fair tho, as it is a current problem... this version would at least completely remove the majority of cheating via autoclicking – as every1 in a sense would be autoclicking with the click/hold of a button

i for one wouldnt have nearly as much fun holding down a button to swing a sword, so hopefully there can be a compromise b/w this and timed physical (low-medium speed) clicks

I like how they're listening to community feedback and are trying to find a way to find a system that works for both java and bedrock that feels natural and effective to players. I was fine with 1.9 changes but I can see why people wouldn't like it. Only thing I don't like about the changes is the hold-down attack but everything else is heading in the right direction. It's not perfect but good progress is being made.

but knowing the pvp community it doesn't matter what they do if it isn't 1.7 combat to the teet they'll whine and complain and refuse to update because "hUr 1.7 pVp iS tHe bEsT" forcing 99% of java servers to stay in 1.8 and **** everyone else over.

They added an auto clicker but it’s trash.

Yeah, servers like Cubecraft do this and I don't see how it helps PvP. Usually after that little sword reloads is when we can hit again. Anyways, hope this will be fix though.

From a general perspective, it's meh. The hold down mechanic is pretty bad imo.

From a ctf perspective however, I personally think having a universal combat system is really good for two reasons.
    1) We'll be able to get more players (and younger players), which is always a plus.
    2) We'll be able to do a sort of revamp of ctf, fixing some core issues, balance classes, and other stuff (which redslime and fellow devs won't like but hey). This would also allow us to update to 1.13+ and get new blocks and mechanics!

Honestly it's not even the combat changes I care about. It's the 6 major updates which every PvP server out there is missing on because the PvP community cares way too much about "slightly smaller hitboxes" and an overhaul of blocking, a relatively minor aspect of combat in the first place.

As long as the community (I'm talking about the whole of Minecraft, not just Brawl) isn't stubborn about these changes and is fine to update unless Mojang really screw it up, I couldn't care much less about how combat changes.

Really scared yet interesting on what outcome will happen when Mojang makes their decision. But, of course, communities opinion matters too.
