I feel it would help alot to kick afk players if they stay inactive more than 5 minutes.

I think this will help alot with gameplay, especially when there are not many players on at the same time. It gets really frustrating when there are around 5-10 people per team and more than half of your team is inactive. when afk players get kicked the new players joining the game automaticly go to the team with less players, making the teams more balanced.

This also helps when the server is full to ease the load and let more people play each time.

Definitely - now that CTF is often reaching a full server again, it's hard for non-ranked players to get into a match. Passed it on.

There is a lot of AFK players on the server it would be a good idea to get kicked for being idle after a period of time.

Full Support. There's really no reason for CTF not to have this.

I agree with this idea as well. Perhaps after 4 minutes, a notice can pop up with the sound effect that is heard when someone types a message with the @ symbol before a player's name with a warning message like "You've been inactive for awhile. You will be ((disconnected or sent to the Lobby)) soon if you remain inactive." and maybe even a "Welcome back." message if they heed the warning after seeing it and do something so they know they're no longer at risk of being either disconnected or bumped back to one of the Lobby servers. +1 .... no, +2 from me (+1 from Dequoy AND +1 from the human being who controls "Dequoy" from his computer)!!

I don't know. Sometimes players are "away from game" rather than "away from keyboard". So, if they hear the alert that they're about to be kicked for inactivity, they might go back to the game, move a bit to restart the timer, and then go back to whatever they were doing.
We need them to participate in the game, and not waste space sitting in the spawn room.

Ooh! How about the timer only works while you're in the spawn room.

Agree with this thread overall, in the past (before I had a rank) this was definitely an issue for me. There would be full games or games with 51 or 52 players on them which would require me to wait a long time before being able to play. Odds are there were a few AFK players on, so implementing this in some way would be beneficial in my eyes.

    Big +1

Yes, you make a very good point. Perhaps a text-only warning -- just so players know how much inactivity will risk getting them bumped out of the match. Some players might not want to leave a match, but might require a few minutes to take care of something outside the game after all with every intention of returning. If they notice a message they'll know it was close. Also, players caught up in long chats would be reminded that there is a game going on that can use their attention in case that player simply lost track of how long they were staying put and joking around or debating or greeting someone they haven't chatted with for ages, etc.

Perhaps one way to do away with "slightly active but not active enough" players is to have their inactivity time reduced a bit when they return to being active rather than having the timer completely reset? Not sure what would be fair, but for example each time a player is detected to not change their location or the direction they're facing (and not attack at all) the inactivity timer would increase by 1 but each time a change is detected it would decrease by 2 (with a minimum of zero). If that inactivity timer reaches a certain value, they'd get the warning so they know they're not seeming to be participating enough - but they'd only get that warning once per CTF round (so it's not spammed to them if they keep popping in to move a bit and then leave). Once the inactivity timer reaches a high enough value then POOF! Off they go. With or without an AFK warning, enough players would keep tabbing back to Minecraft to move a bit to avoid disconnection -- but they'd have to do it far more often to keep this kind of timer satisfied.

This is an excellent idea! It simplifies the work that the server would need to do to keep track of inactive players too since it only needs to check one thing per player (which it already does anyhow) before it goes into more steps to gauge their activity/participation. Plus it would work well with any kind of inactivity timer.
