Map Size

    Question: I am working on a CTF map and am about to begin adding finishing touches to it, but i just realized that the map is only 72 blocks wide instead of the recommended 100 blocks. The thing is, the 72 block width of my map is not too small. The gameplay isn't affected. My map is supposed to be longer (140 blocks long at the moment). Is it okay if i kept the width at 72 blocks, or would it be fine if I at least made the width 80 blocks?
    (If i were to bring my map to 100 blocks, I feel it would ruin the aesthetic/feel of the map. I promise the map is better for gameplay at 72 blocks wide).

    (also, i still have to decorate the map some more. Its not a finished product, but i've nearly finished it).

    Some maps are narrow and that’s fine such as aquafas however I wonder if your length is a bit disproportionate. It’s not a big deal but feels somewhat weird. As well as this, since the map is smaller it may be that you have to compensate by increasing the number of caps.

    It's not a hard and fast rule, there's plenty of maps that are less than 100 blocks wide. However, looking at your map, the edges are long and flat, and I could see a lot of scouts swapping people into voidoff the edges. My suggestion would be to build hills around the edges of the map. This will make the map wider, but rough terrain generally discourages people from going there, so gameplay will mostly still take place in the 72-block width you already have.

    It doesn't look too narrow to me from the pictures. 80 might be good to try if you find yourself feeling cramped when trying to run around the edges, or if you're trying to sneak around.

    I could also take a look at it on build if you'd like. What's the map ID?

    Also, i made the map a bit bigger and better. Still working on it.

    Just took a look at it. The width seems fine to me. Let me know when you're closer to completion, I'm interested to see how the map turns out!

    Map size is not important, because of sponges, moving vertically and other things. What matters is time. Calculate how much time it takes to go :
    -from spawn to ally flag
    -from spawn to enemy flag
    -from flag to flag
