I've realised how much of a pain it still is to cap on casual, especially with no limit on archers. There's a reason why you're limited in comp to one archer only. If there was two or more, you'd constantly have to worry for them and chances are, you're going to get headshot since there's more people to focus on during a steal. Not everyone can get on archers all the time. Now, imagine in casual, where there's no limit whatsoever and there's no organization for offense. You could say "it's the map that's poorly made" but you can't always blame the map for everything. It doesn't make sense to allow an infinite amount of archers. It makes casual capping harder than it is.

My Solution: Archer Queue (waiting line)

What I mean by this is capping the max amount of archers in casual to 3. Anyone else that tries to /archer will be put in a queue to play the class. After every FULL game, 3 new players waiting in the queue will be allowed to play archer. (I emphasized the word "full" to avoid players getting kicked off the class if they finally were allowed to play it, but the game ends right after) The queue rotates players depending on who /archer first. The players that were forced to switch off archer after a game will have to manually queue up again to play it. That avoids the problem of having people stuck in the queue indefinitely when they don't plan on playing archer again. Remove everyone's default class as archer and don't allow the class to be automatically chosen at the start of the game. In other words, archer would be the only class where you can't make it as your default class.

If you're playing a different class while in the queue and someone on archer switches off of it, then you'll get a chat message with a ping saying "You can now play archer! Click here to play archer. You have 30 seconds to change to the kit before the next player in the queue claims your spot." If there's no other players in the queue, then the 30 second warning would not appear until someone else queues up.

In conclusion, I think this would drastically help offense on casual be more appealing to players and it forces players that only play archer to switch it up a bit and play other classes as well. Please leave your opinions if you have any.

Yeah makes sense, casual will actually be playable in 50+ games with an archer cap.

IMO it should kept as it is, although I agree it can be annoying. Archer is a class that lots of new players tend to gravitate to and it might make them lose interest if a class they really like playing is restricted. Also not all archers are playing to hs the flag carrier, e.g. some are just having archer duels, which the limit wouldn't take into account.

While I do agree with you that offense on casual can be frustrating, I think that other factors play a role in deciding whether you capture, mainly whether you have players on your team who are also trying to cap or support you, the nature of the other team's defense, and finally the map/fr which I think has the most impact because it directly affects the two other factors (on maps that are harder to cap people who play offense might not bother and just play defense making it even harder to cap on a map that's already more difficult to cap on).

But back to the suggested change, I don't agree with a limit because I think casual is meant to be more loosely structured and let players mess around or try new classes. And yeah it sucks that sometimes it's impossible to cap but that's just how it is. I don't think one can expect too much on casual. :grinning:

For me, archers are not nearly as annoying as some of the other defensive classes nowadays, unless the map is actually designed poorly such as Standoff. Otherwise, it's mostly scouts, pyros, and assassins that are a huge pain to deal with in multiples. Most maps have routes that allow you to mostly avoid archers so it's not too big of a deal. Even archer maps such as Discovery aren't too big of a deal. It's only the actually good archers in casual (like @Valaconn) that are a problem.

Limiting Archer to 3 in casual would hurt more than it helps the few offensive mains there are, as there are many players new to the game that absolutely suck at melee but actually stand a chance and be able to kill people with Archer's mechanics. Limiting it to 3 in a full game takes away the opportunity for many new players, and some old archer mains, to play the game the way they want to.

There are good intentions with any suggestions relating to limiting archers on casual but I think the whole community, including the new players, need to be accommodated for especially with CTF's stagnant and small playerbase.

it's funny, but it's true ... targeting classes for helping your team complete the objective is totally ok, and you shouldnt feel afraid of doing it -- actually, class counters exist and/or should exist for this reason

however there still comes a fine line when you go after the same person time after time again, so of course it's allowed, but repeating it non-stop till the game ends, esp if there are not many archers, is just called overkill, esp if they fail to kill you ... you shouldnt feel afraid bc in extreme cases it would only warrant a warning (unless repeated after the warning), but we don't want to limit or scare the noobies away :kissing: sportsmanship comes in many ways, and as regs it should be our duty to uphold it not only on the match server but on casual as well :flag:
