Rock Bottom

In the very near future, we're going to be met with a sight that will hopefully grab the attention of the entire server - 4 official teams remaining. WC is effectively dissolved & a little birdy tells me TB won't go anywhere, so the last hundred or so "active" players will all be a part of Anni, FT, Rox, and DF.

But what does this mean?

4 teams is technically enough to do some form of tournament... if you want to hype people for a 2 week event. This is the combined ramification of team stacking & inactivity in general, and while the latter isn't really controllable, it is very clearly an issue for the game. However, seeing as even 10s PPMs are clinging on for dear life, it wouldn't be out of place to say that smaller teams wouldn't hurt anything - Some of these teams technically have like 30 somewhat active members. I completely respect the people that want to stay as close to their friends as possible, but if everybody keeps merging together, what will be the purpose of teams?

CTF has an impressive number of flaws, but the community has gone this far to brute force it into functioning and being enjoyable for those who actually want to have fun. It's a feat few servers can display, but it's so potent in Brawl that it's reaching the point of total assimilation. The moment we drop from 4 teams, it's game over.

So, are we going to keep digging to rock bottom? Or will a miracle from god almighty himself revive CTF? Only time will tell, but I stopped watching that clock a long time ago.

 

This wasn't a post about revival, more so just working with what we have. The fact is that there are like 3 or 4 actual randos a year that make it into the team scene because learning comp meta + being good enough at it to compete at all is a tall order. Team Fallen was the peak of changing that pace, but the game has dropped off so hard that I highly doubt The Bandits can manage an equal feat - I think any team is capable, but the resources just aren't there.
