Look on your profile and click on "following".
Find the player, and hit "unfollow".

ummm on the 'following' section on my profile, it says Im following 17 people, but when you click 'show more' there would only be 16 people, the banned player not in sight. Same for my 'followers' section

Figure out their ID somehow, maybe through a Google search, and input it in the link above.
