Gehenna have you read the book 1984? In 1984 there are thought crimes, it's a police state where the government tries to patrol your thoughts. God's law is exactly the same. He tries to tell me what I can and can't "covet". I mean fine "thou shalt not kill" is all good, but what right does he have to tell me what I can and can't think?
Why would he give us free will if he was gonna kill us for acting in ways he doesn't like (the flood) and punish us for thinking things he doesn't want us to think?
It's your choice to follow the rules or not. He's not going to interfere with your choices. God would prefer you to follow them. It's also your choice to go to Hell or not. You can accept or refuse God's gift of eternal life.
except when you do something really bad, right? then he'll kill you with a flood.
It's also not my choice to go to Hell. God sends me to hell. I don't want to go to hell. And don't act like it's just a binary choice: "accept my god or don't"
What if I decide I don't want to go to Hell and I convert to Christianity but then it turns out Islam is the truth, and I go to Hell for being a Christian? See the false dichotomy? STOP with this stupid "you send yourself to hell" BS. It's not like committing a crime where you know what the law is and you know you're breaking it. If I knew God was real, I would try not to sin for fear of going to hell.
I don't even know WHAT rules to follow; every religion has different rules. It's like sending someone to prison for robbing a bank when there's literally 1,000 different laws, some of which say it's OK to rob a bank, some of which say it isn't and some are ambiguous. It's impossible to know what to do in that situation.
You refuse the saving grace of Jesus, you choose to let your sins drag you to Hell.
Islam was founded when a man named Muhammad received a revelation from, allegedly, the archangel Gabriel. Now, why would Gabriel, a close servant of God, go against God's word like Satan?
I'm sure if I spoke to a Muslim or a Hindu, they would offer me just as convincing arguments for their faith as you offer me for yours. "I believe Islam is a lie" isn't an argument, because of course you believe that. You're a Christian. Can you tell me why Islam is less evidence-based than Christianity?
These stories and prophecies, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, have been presented for thousands of years, and suddenly, this guy named Muhammad pops up and turns everything upside-down, saying, "You got it all wrong."
For comparison and something for you to relate to, it's like the science community where they've presented their studies and theories, and suddenly, this guy named Ken Hamm pops up and turns everything upside-down, saying, "You got it all wrong."
You're right, Ken Ham is a retard. But there's a clear difference which is that the science community had evidence and facts; Ken Ham doesn't. Neither the stories of the Old/New Testament or the stories/teachings of the Qur'an were evidence/fact-based so how can one be better than the other?
One of my best friends in real life is Muslim and they offer me just as convincing arguments for Islam being the true faith as you offer me for Christianity.
The key thing to understand is that you are 99.99% atheist. So are most people. Humanity has come up with tens of thousands of gods and you are atheist towards nearly all of them.
You and nearly all other religious people are easily able to avoid belief in other religions using logic. I'm sure you know why the Greek gods and Hindu gods aren't real. But the problem is your failure to apply that logic to your own faith. The exact same arguments you use for disputing other religions could be used against your own.
Just logical. Any religious views of these gods are extinct or nearly extinct. These gods are nothing but pop culture figures now, being portrayed in comics and such. Why aren't they doing anything to get mankind to worship or respect them again?
And thirdly... if God is all about getting people to worship or respect him, why is ~70% of the world not Christian? You make it sound like if a significant number of people didn't believe in a God that was real, he would do something to get people to believe in him...
