it's surreal to think this was once a thriving community where everyone knew and was friendly with one another, with a huge playerbase and memorable gamemodes

brawl is a shell of its former self now, honestly depressing how things can change over the course of one year

Wat? Sure Brawl was a thriving community, but it was also one of the most toxic communities I've ever been a part of. :v Most people were indifferent, if not openly hostile to each other if they weren't in the same group of friends. :v

Toxicity is lit bro, why else would people play WarZ and War so much? Hey, the WarZ community is way less toxic now, and most of Brawl is less toxic now.

I couldn't disagree more. Assuming it helped at all, there's little chance it did more good than bad. Not only did it drive many new players away, but it also drove away many players who had been around for a while. Just look at the outro section throughout the years. I couldn't tell you how many people have cited the toxic community as a reason for leaving.

when i said friendly i meant 2013-early 2014 when warz teams weren't stealing each other's network info and ddos attacks were rather rare. it got exponentially worse after that, minecraft mp as a whole has gotten exponentially worse. i joined a popular faction server and was told to kill myself by 20 different people because i didn't have a $10,000 rank

yeah there were a lot of toxic players throughout brawl's history but they're practically nonexistent on the forums

I disagree with the extreme toxicity that was present, such as DDOS/DOX, I like the competitive toxicity like bm'ing in fights.
