As for ideas, idk, there's been some good ones in recent times. No HM slaves, characters with some backstory, the wild area, regional forms, etc.

Just bring back Mega Evolution, the national dex, contests, overhaul the crap out of the graphics, and expand upon the concept of the wild area. That should be the way forward. Oh, and actually have some characters that aren't **** since they were all **** in SwSh. And cut it out with the god awful handholding.

I doubt Gamefreak will ever let pokemon die. It's too profitable a franchise and any other project done by them is a massive failure. Remember that town RPG thing they made, Little Town Hero? Yeah, that **** bombed so they're probably just going to keep doing what they do best... and sometimes, those things aren't actually good. *cough cough* handholding *cough cough* (2967)

Also, unironically, if Gamefreak did something stupid again, it may actually be a good thing. If they **** up enough times, people will stop buying their products and they may change their policies or methods of making games...

Decent? I was blown away by the reveal of the Pokemon Legends game. I never thought I'd see the day when an actually open-world Pokemon game was announced. Extremely hyped for that one.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the remakes are just a reskin. I'm not a huge fan of the art style myself. I'd be upset about it if the legends game didn't make up for it. I wanted to see Sinnoh in those kind of graphics, and I got my wish in a way I didn't expect that I would.
