I disagree. Sure, some have used these as negative ratings, but they have the benefit of being ambiguous. Even if they are used to express contempt, it's not as clear when this is the case. Also, since using them as negative ratings can only be discerned in the context of a specific post, one can't tell how many "disliked" posts a person has by looking at the chart on their profile.

I think that it's telling that nobody, at least that I saw, got upset about ratings after that point, especially when people were getting upset about the before.

I really disliked the removal of negative ratings. I never saw anyone abuse them and if you were smart and just acted reasonable, you wouldn't get any negatives. Not to mention, if a person does abuse negative ratings in some way, then the mods could just... idk, punish them instead of removing them completely? Also, why remove the goddamn disagree option?! It was so much easier to just have it as it was.
(3056)
Yeah, I know it was a controversial issue. Still, people weren't uniformly reasonable in their use of the ratings, so even if you were reasonable, you could still get hit with some. For example, people used to dislike people's posts wishing a clan success back in the day.
(3057)
As for the reasoning behind removing them, aside from their abuse, they contributed little to nothing meaningful to the conversation. It's better to encourage a post stating one's reasons for disagreement. That's more beneficial to everyone.

Also, may I mention that Xenforo lacks an option to batch-remove ratings? There were cases in the past where I had to go through 30 posts individually to remove spammed ratings.
Tbf, I remember having... 2 or 3 negative ratings even though I was a twat most of the time. Also, sometimes it was just easier to show support/disapproval through a swift rating instead of having to make a pointlessly short post.

I'll exchange ease of disapproval for more information since a post is almost always going to provide more information than a rating. I can't remember anyone just replying "disagree" on a thread. With posts, there's almost always reasoning supplied. (Also, have we sufficiently farmed this topic for posts here yet? :P)

On the topic of negative ratings, I absolutely hated it tbh. Glad it got removed, hated that stupid pointless rating the most (the box). Not saying my negative to positive ratio was bad, but I felt like something I say which could have a point, people rate pointless, got to me. Then again, I was like what 13-15? When that was around.
I’m remembering my staff applications now, I’ve had 3? 4? 2 accepted, I was so happy when I got accepted the first time, in what 2014? I was so immature, got demoted in like a week. Fast forward a year or 2, reapply. Accepted again, maturity better but... was a jmod for 9? Months
Well, it was mafia, soulless, and I that applied around the same time to be the first WW mods, all accepted. Don’t even remember why maf didn’t make it past trial, soulless resigned shortly after (always assumed because maf didn’t make it past trial.) I think 2 or 3 batches of trial mods, got global mod before I did, got it same time snacks did.
Literally the gamemode that made me change my name from Captain_Mark to iMacro permanently. So many of the older WarZ players used to call me Mark even after my name change, and it’s not even my name.
Early 2013 or late 2012, I played a zombie survival server on shotbow “MineZ”, Most frustrating experience tbh, map was massive, zombies were OP, players betrayed me. I found 2 other players, leedog and calyg. Befriended them, they were a lot younger than me, I was 12-13 they were 9-10? After playing MineZ a bit longer, while in a call with them on skype, they told me about a “cooler” zombie server. Brawl’s Mc-WarZ
Back, when there were 10? servers, the players I played with, hacked and I was a ridealong, confessing 8 years later. They were never banned, because they used X-ray only, blink was foreign at the time. Comboing didn’t exist, took me, a few months to get used to it. I made my first video ever, on a clip I got, killing 2 full irons, which at the time was amazing for me.
Let’s go over my minecraft history. My cousin and I were a fan of the yogscast back in the day, after watching their survival island and Shadow of (something) series We got it, of course, first thing we did was go on survival and get scared by everything. We started minecraft, during Beta 1.6? Our first ever server was, hunger games. Our first other type of server was, a survival?
It was called legendarycraft (doesn’t exist anymore), we had no idea what we were doing, being the naive 11 year old, I begged for ranks. Of course, didn’t get them. So we had the next best thing, builder rank.
We made a mansion thing, if I could have a screenshot, I’d send. But that was 10 years ago. I was a better builder at 11 years old, then I am now. We both submitted the same build, I got accepted but my cousin didn’t for the exact same build, we both worked on. Builder, had access to /fly and that was it pretty much it. After, that, got onto the factions side.
Probably the reason why, I became more toxic, because one of my factions members kept taking my diamonds. But because we were playing on 400 ping, we exploited something to get free diamond armour and weapons.
Basically, there was this 1v1 arena. And you can start a 1v1 by yourself, or go to the stands to “spectate”. Once in the arena, you can’t tp out. But, we lagged so hard. We could block glitch and phase through the arena glass, /kill then tp to the stands and collect the loot.
Shouldn’t be too embarrassed tbh, I got called out for hacks. Man, when WarZ used to be fun, before comboing. At this time though, comboing actually did exist. I was really slow at it, but since my name is iMacro now, obviously wasn’t slow forever. Still bad though.
@iMacro Maf evidently had his trial extended for abusing sheriff which I believe prompted him to resign. Soulless talked about things that were said about someone in the staff slack and was demoted for it. Both were involved in making a Wildwest server of their own at the time as well, which makes me suspect they were treated more harshly, but I can't say for sure.

"first thing we did was go on survival and get scared by everything." Holy crap, that was my experience too. Minecraft legit used to stress me out way back when I first got it.

@Lord_Roke you were one of the higher-ups back then. I remember Cuddled calling me into a meeting out of the blue to talk with me about TheMafia's server. Can you speak as to the general sentiment of the higher-ups when it was discovered he was making a server of his own, or naw?
