Aren't you able to just make it so that players can comment on the application and say their judgement, but:
    * Remove ratings.
    * Make it a rule so that there is no negative comments in staff applications.
    * If there is a negative comment, delete his comment and comment in the application warning the player not to do negative comments.

If this rule was to go into effect, players should get warnings for starting flame wars or ect. If they get 3 warnings, they are banned from commenting on staff applications. Also, only cases where the voting is close should the application be open for voting.

The old mod app page was either friendly rating farming (you know who you are), agree rating farming, funny rating and just post count in general. If we removed all of these from it, and made the "no negitive/harsh comments" rule and had a button you had to click saying "do you agree with the rules of posting in this section blah blah" then I think we'd be set. Good post greed.

I agree and disagree on this.

    Agree:

Players that may know the applicant more than staff may be able to point something out that nobody knows about. This will probably make players realize that the applicant may not be as qualified as people thought they originally were. Any flame, off topic posts, etc. goes against the forum rules so those posts will just easily be deleted.

    Disagree:

Keeps the staff apps calm and you're receiving constructive criticism from players who have actually obtained a staff rank on the server and know what criteria you need to meet before applying. Also, normal players will most likely give bias opinions on all apps while staff do not.

I'm in the middle for this one, find something to persuade me even more...

Hm, maybe you would need like 1,000 posts to post on staff apps and also be trusted enough by the staff?
If you look back at any old mod app, literally the applicants were getting DRILLED with terrible responses, and a like farm was even started on one.

I say there should be "invisible ranks" that only give the selected members who receive the rank the ability to comment on staff applications. If they don't use constructive criticism, or be nice, then they could be demoted.
The ones chosen for the rank will be well-respected and have previously had a good reputation with staff application criticism.

We could make a whole new forums section to it, like Mod Application Permission Applications :O
There you could apply for it, and if you were respected, trusted, hadn't done the S.N.N. thing or are willing to never do it again, you can be able to post there.

    Like the subsections.
    Ex. Staff and Critics
But instead it's under the section that says Applications.

I was going to post my own thread on this, but I remembered you had made one like this, so I'm just going to bump it since it's a decent debate.
Anyways, I agree with this, and it is really needed since the staff cannot really get input from other members, but ratings (and post count) would need to not count to your total.

Although i don't agree with everything you wrote, i really like the fact that you gave up your time for this. You've stated your opinions clearly and have made a pretty good argument. One thing I will say is the admins don't want more things to do, i'm not sticking up for them, its something they would say. It would be something like "we have too much to do and are really busy"

At first i thought this was going to be about something else. I thought it was going to be about having a section in the staff applications where people can make a thread and state their opinions about the person who has applied and people can comment their opinions.

Well I've 83% agreed with you.
Admins should take your idea into consideration...
