The forums with only likes would cause a few issues.
There are so many people now (to be exact, about 20k), and to remove all ratings now save for the like would be like a step back.
In addition, I like being able to express my opinions through the rating system, as opposed to making an off topic pointless post. Wouldn't you agree, as a moderator, that there would be more pointless posts if people couldn't express their opinions via a rating system?

I would be content with both Option 8 and Option 1.
If Option 1 were to be implemented, some things that would actually deserve the rating would no longer receive it, and in turn receive hateful comments.
If Option 8 were to be implemented, the wrong things would get the negative ratings. I have seen people who post threads on their first nuke get dislikes and pointless ratings. This is an achievement and they are proud, why shame them and look down upon them?
As stated before, the community's usage of the ratings would have to be changed if everything were to go along peacefully.

I find a lot of things wrong with your statement.
The biggest ones are that a lot of the people on the forums are younger and take their ratings to heart.
Then you say that Internet points shouldn't hurt your feelings. Since the Internet is such a huge part of our lives today, I mean, we should be careful of what we do and be aware of what we are doing wrong to get these ratings.
Lastly, you say "welcome to the real world."
That is single most the most annoying thing anyone can say to you.
Of course most of us aren't adults and aren't part of the "real world", but if you break your writing arm before the state exams even if you're not in the "real world", it still sucks, right?
I do agree with you on the fact that it shouldn't be the end of the world, but there are a lot of better ways to put it.
Option 1 for me I'd say, although there isn't really a great solution for this issue.

imo, 1, 5 and 7 all sound like viable options. 1 just makes it like the traditional like button, but more varied. Option 5 sounds good, as there are sections that are just bad for negative ratings (y u rate clan page pointless?:mad:smile:. Option 7 would also work, as after a certain amount of post, people are smart enought to know when a negative rating is a viable thing to do

I like option 5, people are scared to post their idea because they're scared of getting dislikes and pointless's.

Well it prepares them doesn't it? Hmm if we cater to kids saying you can never do anything wrong we get what social justice warriors and feminazis.. and Tumblr and god knows what else, Where they blame all their problems on some one else. Because they where never told that was wrong just Right or Right. Also if kids can't handle fake internet points and break friendships over it then they shouldn't be on the internet in the first place.

Well, my thread I created a while back pretty much sums up my reasoning (I highly recommend reading it before voting), but I will re-state a few things here. My main point I want to bring up is this. Many people think that the rating system is a valid way of expressing oneself. However, if you really think about it, who is one expressing himself to?

"What are they good for? Now, the obvious response to this question I believe would be something along the lines of: "Well, they are a good way of expressing yourself." My response is "Who are you expressing yourself to?" Virtually nobody ever sees who likes or dislikes something on a thread except for the person whose post was liked or disliked. To everyone else but the recipient, they are just pictures next to words. Now, to me, this is a huge issue with our current rating system as a whole. Not only does it make negative ratings seem personal, but it allows people get away with rating spam. So, if rating something is not a valid way of expressing oneself, then what is the point of rating posts [negatively] in the first place? Even though negative ratings are not always given with the intent of being taken personally, because the poster is the only one who can really see the dislike, it gives negative ratings a distinct appearance of hate or personal dislike. Thus, considering these things, we find that negative ratings in no way improve the forums. They only bring negativity and hate." *excerpted from my thread*

Now, as for what I would like to see happen. I would love to see negative ratings done away with. But in the case that they were, I believe that disagree, and neutral ratings should be removed as well. Think about it. A neutral rating would be just weird without the dislike rating. It along with the disagree rating could become the new negative ratings. They would just be hiding under the guise of a neutral rating. If this were the case, it would somewhat defeat the purpose of removing negative ratings in the first place, so I believe that removing these two ratings along with the negative ratings would be imperative.

    My opinion:

Number 7 and the permission to give negative ratings can be removed due to abuse.

Honestly I really like most of these ideas... I can't wait to see what happens to the forums after one of these changes commences.

Maybe make it so that you can't see your negative ratings, and nobody else can too? But you can see all your positive ratings.

Like if somebody dislikes my post, I wouldn't be able to see it, but everybody else would. But if someone likes it, I'd be able to see it .

You'd also not be able to see your total negative ratings. Also, you should remove the "Top Negative Ratings" from the "Notable Members Section". It sometimes puts people down, like when I was a mod, somebody told me I was the only mod that was in the Top Negative Ratings section.

Option 9. Make it so no negatives are removed, but no numerical total.

Option 10. Unban me and remove negatives.

I am really liking the sound of number seven. Usually the people who spam the negative ratings aren't knowledgable in how we really tend to work with the community so experience should rule over that side of the forums (Opinion)

I'm one of those people that ignores negative ratings, I wouldn't mind if they were removed or still available. Honestly, I think they should be kept, but there should be a harsher consequence if you are one of those people who just spams them.
