Idea [Class] - Craftsman

    Craftsman ~ Builder ~ Mason ~ (any name you can think of)

    Support - Offensive & Defensive

    Inventory:
    [​IMG]

    - Axe: Main weapon
    * Amount: 1
    * Ability:
    [Left click] Used as normal weapon.
    [Right click] Erects a 3x3 horizontal wall that lasts for a couple seconds.​
    - Shovel:
    * Amount: 1
    * Ability:
    [Left click] Used as a weapon
    [Right click] Digs a small circular hole that lasts for a couple seconds.
    - Workbench:
    * Amount: 1 : reusable, able to pick it up and place it somewhere else.
    * Ability:
    Slowly replenishes Archers arrows & maybe slight buffs to swords/other weapons within a 5-7 block radius.​
    - Sponge:
    *Amount: 1-3
    *Ability
    A sponge is used as a launcher.​
    - Pressure Plate:
    *Amount: 1-3
    *Ability:
    A Pressure plate is used as a teleport device.
    Armor:

    Hat: ----
    Chest: ----
    Leggings: Diamond
    Feet: Leather

    *I'll post my explanation shortly. I still have quite a bit to learn about ctf. My main inspiration is from a game called King Arthur's Gold. <3

    I don't think the teleport would be necessary as Engineer already has a similar concept.
    I do find the sponge to be very interesting as it has a lot of potential!
    Quick note: In Minecraft, aren't you supposed to click the left button to attack?
    Ex: [Left click] - Attack

    But really wouldn't the sponge act the same as a tele-porter. The teleporter takes 3 seconds to teleport someone and with a sponge it takes about the same to land someone. I think this kit would only be used for trolling your own team if it was added by making the sponge launch people into the void. (Coding the sponge would be difficult a-swell.)

    :smile: I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult. Setting the launch direction as the same direction the player looks as he sets it down. We could use Brawl sponges, as they launch you based on what direction you walk into them or code something new.(of course, not knowing how difficult that could be)

    I like the idea, especially the special abilities such as the wall and hole. Keep the ideas rolling, Andy :smile:

    I'm gonna have to say no, for a few reasons. The first two are probably the most problematic.

    1. It's underpowered. Low armor and low damage output isn't going to make it very fun.
    2. It's complicated. This isn't a huge problem but classes are supposed to be simple: Ninja is the most complicated at the moment, with 3 separate mechanics; this has five.
    3. No sword means no way to block against assassins, which is something you much want to keep in mind.
    4. Axe can be used to block the spawn and generally troll teammates.
    5. The hole could trap people or allow people to reach areas that are meant to be inaccessible.
    6. Workbench would have to be restricted from flagrooms to stop defense from being ridiculously OP; also there's no real need to replenish archers' arrows.
    7. The sponges in CTF work completely differently to the way they do in Brawl. The CTF way is too complex for a class to quickly set up, and the Brawl way would cause confusion with the difference between sponge types.
    8. Pressure plate: already exists.
    9. Armor looks ugly; you'd be better off going with full leather.
    A lot of these are easily fixable but I think it's an inherently flawed class. I'm not trying to bash it, I'm just letting you know what to keep in mind when making a class ^^

    1. I should've added specifics, cause the class can definitely have a diamond axe. Armor is something I'm still pondering about.
    2. There's nothing complicated about this class. The name implies a profession just as engineer does. I'd like to think an axe best represents the role of a Builder/Craftsman. The workbench is used to create things, so that's not all that complicated. A pressure plate and sponge are both well known items and each one has a simple ability, teleporting and launching players. The shovel is used for digging. If that's not what you meant by complicated, then please elaborate. :smile:
    3. That'll just be 1 weakness that sits against the ability to block paths, place small holes and give specific classes extra equipment along with giving players extra ways of reaching the enemy base.
    4. That one is still up in the air, as I can only say that's the cost of having an ability that I feel can be very beneficial in flag capturing, for example blocking areas to help the flag carrier on his way back. I can also agree this can be a troll tool.
    5. Good point and archers equipment could be slightly reduced or have a workbench give bows buffs. It could something other than replenish arrows.
    6. Trapping people could be a plus. Successfully trapping a person doesn't sound all that bad. You stopped someone from reaching the objective would be a plus in my opinion.
    7. I figured the only way to have the sponges work is if they worked like Brawl's sponges do. I don't know how confusing this would really be, as it launches the player in the direction they run into it. It could be part of an update that let's everyone know.
    8. After seeing that the engineer already has this, it kind of does make adding it to the Craftsman pointless.
    9. I think all minecraft armor looks somewhat ugly, though I'd like to think diamond pants and some leather boots(can be colored) aren't that bad. Maybe the diamond leggings can be leather and the color of the team you're on, with enchantments of course.

    Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely keep all this in mind when thinking about other class ideas. Don't feel like you're being harsh. I enjoy all criticism and ideas as that's what helps ideas reach that level of awesome we're looking for. <3

    Im sorry if I hurt your feelings on your ability to code but having a sponge like this that you can customize where it lands will be ridiculous for how many people will be launched into the void.

    Engineer's tele-porter along time ago didn't have a 3 second teleport requirement. You could just walk over it and be teleported. Engineer was one of the most trolliest class because you could place the tele-porter near spawn and put it near the void so people would just walk off.

    I think the axe would get way too troll'y and make the game unenjoyable. Maybe make it so the other team can't go through the wall but the user's team can?
    The shovel would break a lot of maps. It would be able to tear holes from the surface to the flag rooms on maps like Valley of Ruins and Aquafus (i think).
    The crafting table should be removed because it doesn't serve a very important purpose. The teleporter should also be removed because Engineer already has one. also this doesnt have any steak ?

    Sorry, but all I see here is an insane capping class. All the issues Edd pointed out make it so that the defence can't get this guy once he has the flag. He can get in from the top with shovel, get the flag, put up a wall, run, place sponge, and capture.

    Only teammates being able to go through walls is an interesting thought. The holes would only last a few seconds and dropping into the flag room with weak armor and weapons actually doesn't sound that bad. Explain why you think the crafting table doesn't serve a very important purpose please. The crafting table could give temp weapon buffs and if it gave ammo, the classes it could give ammo to could have an ammo nerf(not an extreme one).

    Yeah, the teleporter can go.


    Under-powered armor, though the last point is something I really didn't think about. This class is more of a support as the armor and weak main weapon really makes him a tag-a-long class that can really help others more than himself.

    I appreciate both of your opinions and I'll keep these points in mind if I ever come up with other ideas. Thank you.
