Things to "Help a Player"

Good point. Making some tutorial videos and have those be posted to Brawl on CTF would be very helpful. I don't know why Brawl-made, up to date tutorial videos don't exist already but then again CTF isn't mentioned on the Brawl homepage (and is still listed as in 'Beta' mode in game) so I'm guessing that could be a reason why there aren't really any tutorials at the moment.

On this point it's worth mentioning that such tutorials do exist (although they're not on the site) and in particular - Hclewk (a.k.a Kurtis Welch, owner of McPVP) actually uploaded videos on how to play most of the CTF classes way back in 2012. Here's links to a couple of them. Most of his videos are still relevant since not a whole lot or nothing at all has changed with them:

 

Those are good for class overviews, but since they contain an older version of CTF, could be confusing to newer players who need to watch the videos. There is a tutorial for every class. They can be found on various Mod/Admin channels.

I think a tutorial is a great idea, but I think it only need one part. A short overview of the game, and short description of classes. For now, I would suggest putting a link to the wiki in the chat of players with less than 20 games or so. We finished the wiki and put it on the index this morning.

 

It'd be nice to have those actually posted on the site (all in one place) so they are more accessible.

 

I might make tutorials on all 4 free classes some tip etc. But like maybe if a player who has play 50 games or less chooses a class it gives a description of the class and what role it plays and tips like under scoreboard so if someone choose soldier it could be like. Right click your sword on a block to climb up don't worry if you fall because you don't take no damage. Your aim is to capture so find your teams flag and steal it - for more information watch this guide to soldier (tutorial video link) or something like that.

 

I'm all for this. helping new players is really important and anything that helps this happen is definitely a good idea

 

If somebody could make better updated class videos I'd be happy to put them in the CTF Wiki.

 

But they are outdated. I have seen several class reviews and stuff on YouTube and I will talk with Tenshi about if we will put them on the wiki.

 

I really like this idea! Maybe for the help points instead of top 3 in a month they could be worth a certain value in the shop (small but something, like $1 for every 5 helps??? Then ALSO do the top 3 at the end?). Also maybe the helped player could rate it 1-5. Also they would need something to prevent people from getting there friends to give them hundreds of points...

Or, you know, point them towards the bloody instructions written on the inside of literally every spawn box.

 

How is CTF not obvious to play? It's Capture the Flag. The objective and process are in the game title.

I've been Thinking of making some interactive tutorials with 1.8, maybe I'll try one for ctf

 

This is a good idea! There is always one person asking: "How do I pick up the flag?"

 

I support this idea! Maybe CTF will be a much more fun place if new players actually knew what to do when they first join!
