Why I gave up on CTF

    People might/might-not remember me (or even like me). For those who do, most likely don't care. I though I'd come make this post because I was checking my skype contacts and flashbacks of events, players, and games came to my mind. Then in some people's status I saw links to forum posts, went, and checked them out. This post isn't for attention (unlike ants return). I figured I'd tell some old acquaintances about new events in my life and why I quit CTF.

    1). First and foremost, I got a gaming desktop. Fully loaded, badass, and extremely fun to be on, unlike my Laptop where it wasn't as powerful. Because I got a 4k gaming rig, I knew from the start that I didn't want to limit myself to Minecraft. Back in January of this year, I made a forum post on leaving CTF to go play Evolve. Turns out, I got the game, and it ran with 5 fps on my laptop. I had to come back to CTF after that fail.

    2). With my desktop, I have been ranking up on Evolve (level 32), ranking in under 1000 in a single Support leaderboard (in the US). Evolve isn't far from CTF.

    Now on to the more negative stuff...

    3). When I got my Desktop, I got a business type keyboard because I dislike mechanical keyboards (from my home desktop). Because I got the feel and style I liked, turns out I can't hotkey while pressing the letter keys. That has been a big setback because classes like Chemist and Pyro are difficult to play as, because of how much I relied on the 1 key to bring back my sword.

    4). I've tried searching for updates for CTF on the forums and haven't found any. Do they exist, I dunno. But by looking on their store, still no new classes. Upon joining and looking at the classes, none have changed (as far as their inventory). Then, I saw the auto-messages and it still says that CTF is in Beta. So even after leaving, nothing gets changed. Brawl is basically MCPVP V2. PLEASE NOTE that I know that it is easier to tell people what to so from the sidelines, but frankly, they keep it on the hush-hush like MCPVP did.

    5). Build has become a distant memory because of the map limiting, at least for donors. I have around 40 maps, and in order to make more I have to delete 30 of them, and that is just to have the max limit of maps, meaning I have to delete more to make more. Basically that is a ****-you directed at me, because I love to build maps, not caring if they get added or not (If you test me, find me a post that I made saying how I was upset that my maps don't/didn't get added).

    6). The Brawl community will never understand what CTF meant to most MCPVPers. They will never play a game where the flag burns and the game lasts 3 hours waiting for an admin to reset it. They will never understand CTF before the buy-out. Meaning people take Ant's **** seriously. Or disrespect the KollVenk.

    7). Gameplay, hasn't changed a bit. Each Evolve game I play is different in some way. CTF is a smaller mixing pot, where tactics and players change the outcome of the game. Evolve is a larger pot, where classes and roles impact the outcome, especially in Evacuation.

    8). I asked BBH to have a discussion with me over the downfall of MCPVP but he ignored it.

    9). I wish I had pics of my stats because that is basically resume material. To say that you have dedicated more than 2/3 years, over 5000 games, and to be highly ranked in multiple categories is a big deal, at least for me. Now people who are new to CTF look at me like I was born a Brawler. I'm not nor will ever be.

    To those who made it through, I'm glad that you have stuck with CTF through many, many different problems from Paladin to a year without updates. I just wish that more could be done.

    (I checked the update log area and they keep updates there, but none are for CTF.)

    atm there is a bug on build so you can get as many maps as you like for free. also funnily enough we played ur shattered rift remake in an old map event yesterday

    Xplo... I still don't know why you are here/the point of this post.

    You've quit like six times.

    Mcpvp could've just completely died and not have a new place for us to go. Most of us are thankful to have a place to still hang out with our friends on.

    Server integration is a pain because of how the Brawl system works, I'm sure if you took the time to read updates that you'd read all of the things that had to be done. Nom has worked his tail off.

    Of all people BBH may be the worst person to ask about the downfall of the old server. He is gone and we all know how that went down.

    Stats are being integrated, but there are compatibility issues with Brawl. Nom posted about this. If it was as easy as copy and paste it would've been done a long time ago.

    Mcpvp died due to lack of income. The new build map policy is to encourage donating so the server doesn't die like mcpvp. There is also going to be an earnable trusted rank that allows more maps, you're not the only person with 30+.

    I would've liked to accept this as just a friendly "oh-hey-this-is-what-i've-been-up-to" post, but there is too much complaining and lack of caring enough to get information for me to not get irritated.

    Well... once Creative merges with Build, you will be able to save your builds as schematics so you just have to wait for that. The coders are all busy coding other things, but Nom is coding CTF right now, he's the same coder you've had back in McPvP so I don't know why you're complaining about delayed updates, it would probably be the same in McPvP. After CTF and HG are out of Beta you will get your stats back and your statistics will be recorded, all of your data is being kept and don't worry about that, the reason they can't keep track of your stats in Beta is because there are glitches and people can take advantage of these glitches to get lots of kills or win lots of games. Once these glitches are fixed and the game is somewhat balanced the stats will come back. At least you can play CTF, are playing CTF for fun or just for the stats? (well I play for both, but I'm waiting for stats to come out as well, mostly to join a team...)

    Therein lies the problems of brawl's ctf. Brawl simply doesn't care about the quality besides siphoning off money from it.
    Like, seriously, it took like what, two months to put in an anti-hacker system that looks like no time was spent into it at all? not that im not grateful for it but still if it was that bad might as well put the old one in first

    Honestly, I agree with your points... Especially the what ctf meant to mcpvpers one.

    I still didn't give up on CTF, quite simply because I love the game and I still have fun with what am I doing. There are some awesome people I met.

    Hopefully you'll come and see us on the server sometimes :smile:

    I am sorry, but that's the furthest thing from the truth.
    1. CTF has not gotten ANY gameplay changes since the transfer. I understand it's beta, but there is no ETA on releasing full CTF. And the community WANTS these changes.
    2. We want transparency. And nobody on this severer, pre or post transfer has EVER gotten an ETA for anything meaningful.
    3. You blatantly go against what the community wants so it seems like you're updating the game. What am I talking about? Banners. Yes, I'm still quite sore about that issue.
    - They look VERY derpy.
    - They remove your helmet
    - There is no reason for them to be there:
    --Mc-war has wool on a post and wool founts out of their heads. You say that it makes the player more obvious, well, I disagree. In War, there are no compass to track the player and it's a wool fountain and people seem to have 0 problem recovering even at extremely long ranges.
    --I don't care if they're a 1.8 feature, we're not using the Alex skin as our flag and we're not changing coal ore to granite.
    -Wool wasn't broken. why did you put coding time into something that didn't need to be added, when you could've been fixing bugs and getting us out of beta faster so we could have the class changes we need instead of adding more bugs.
    And I still don't understand the attitude of some Brawlers, from telling McPvPers to "suck up and deal with change"
    Some people have transitioned quite nicely, and to those people, both Brawl (good example would be @Chopoo) and McPvP, kudos. But plenty haven't, and I think it creates a somewhat toxic environment.
    Also, I'd like to touch on one last concern:
    Brawl staff seems like the're trying to change CTF without even knowing the gamemode. It takes a while to lean the intricacies of class balancing. It's not easy. So to those on staff who don't have experience with CTF (talking to higher-ups here) please learn how the game works before you make any major decisions.

    I needed to get that out of my system.

    Hope this works out. I'm still dissatisfied though.

    You can always just wait in the shadows for CTF to get better, and play other games. Sorry to hear you feel that way about the game.

    I'm just going to keep playing CTF... I don't see myself quitting... well, ever! I still love the game, even though there's a few things that make it unenjoyable for others, I don't mind

    The new Anti Cheat Plugin is kNoHax 2, coded by the same developer as kNoHax 1. We are sorry for all the false autobans, but they only happened because the plugin was put on HG and CTF before it was adjusted for these servers. The Anti Cheat plugin barely banned anyone falsely on KitBrawl, because KitBrawl is vanilla PvP and the plugin standard was designed for vanilla PvP.

    That is absolutely wrong. @NomNuggetNom is always working on making the changes the community wants to see and usually talks to CTF staff members before he changes anything important. Please don't bring up banners again, that was supposed to be a simple cosmetic change so nobody expected the community to make such a big deal about it.

    Please don't quote out of context what I say. This statement was about one specific topic, the decision to keep or remove instakills.

    The community could decide whether they want to keep or remove insta-kills. If they voted for removing them, that would have been done, but they voted for keeping them with a huge majority so everything is still the same. Please don't complain that we do not change anything major if we let you decide it and you didn't want us to.

    We do not release any official release dates for any server anymore due to out past experiences. It is hard to tell when a certain coding project is finished because you might always encounter a serious bug or other problems. Whenever we announce a release date and don't manage to hold it, the community is even more disappointed so we won't.

    Once more, banners were considered to be nothing but a cosmetic change. And we did listen to the community later on as the banner was put on a fence post to make it possible to use some special tactics. Dropping and picking up the banner is being worked on and the removed helmet just makes it a bit more challenging to capture a flag, it is not a game breaking problem.
    On the one hand you ask for updates, on the other hand you complain when we update something.

    The developer in charge of CTF is Nom. He makes and codes changes, he codes bug fixes. Other higher staff members might suggest some changes but in the end it will always be Nom who adds them. I doubt you consider Nom as someone who is not used to CTF.

    I'm pretty sure that's the whole point. You guys shouldn't only listen to the community regarding one specific issue. What does that achieve at all?
